Filter by:Mobility refers to a person's purposeful movement through the environment from one place to another and can be conceptualized as a continuum from bed bound (immobility) on one extreme to making excursions to distant locations on the other extreme. Primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) is a chronic, progressive optic neuropathy that can lead to gradual loss of vision in the peripheral field and central vision. Older adults with POAG have an increased risk for motor vehicle collisions and falls. Moreover, existing studies suggest that patients with POAG exhibit more postural sway while standing as measured by a balance platform and also tend to walk more slowly than those who are normally sighted and free of ocular disease. While these disturbances likely influence mobility, there has been little research directly assessing the impact of POAG on mobility. This study will assess the impact of POAG on life space (one aspect of mobility) and will determine whether difficulties with life space are associated with difficulties experienced under conditions of dim lighting.
The study is an observational analysis of patients' medical data recorded in a large-scale register, both retrospective (for patients operated and data recorded before 2018) and prospective (for data collected after 2018) in nature.Patients' medical data contained in the register will be analysed to determine the efficacy of the treatments they received during their follow-up at the investigation centre.
A prospective, parallel-group, double-blind, randomized placebo-controlled clinical study will be conducted with an estimated 72 participants. The objective of this study is to determine if Mirtogenol has an additive effect on the reduction of intraocular pressure when combined with bimatoprost in the Hispanic population with primary open angle glaucoma. Baseline clinical data will be collected for each participant and they will be randomized 1:1 to a treatment group (bimatoprost 0.01% and Mirtogenol) or control group (bimatoprost 0.01% and placebo). Efficacy and safety of Mirtogenol will be measured during the 24 week study. Participants will be evaluated in five visits: screening and baseline, week 4, week 8, week 12 and week 24. The tests that will be performed include visual acuity, visual field evaluation, applanation tonometry, optical coherence tomography (OCT), and pachymetry. Side effects or adverse effects will be reported and evaluated by the ophthalmologist at each visit to access the safety of Mirtogenol. The primary efficacy endpoint of intraocular pressure (IOP) will be compared using a t-test and will have an 80% probability to detect a difference between treatments at a 0.05 significance level.
Determine if the Tono-Vera Tonometer accurately measures intraocular pressure (IOP). The hypothesis of this test is to confirm the Tono-Vera Tonometer is equivalent to the Goldmann Applanation Tonometer (within +/- 5.0 mmHg).

Trabeculectomy is routinely used as a surgical treatment for open angle glaucoma. Success of trabeculectomy is greatly augmented by the use of antimetabolites to inhibit wound healing, specifically Mitomycin C (MMC). MMC can be applied to the eye at various sites, concentrations and times. This study aims to compare the two application routes that are commonly employed: subconjunctival pre-operative injection and intraoperative direct scleral application in terms of IOP lowering effect, bleb appearance and complications.

Glaucoma is the most common threat to vision rehabilitation in patients with Boston keratoprosthesis type 1 (KPro) implantation. High intraocular pressure (IOP) is the most important risk factor for glaucoma and may lead to irreversible retinal and optic nerve damage. Glaucoma drainage device (GDD) surgery is used to divert aqueous humor (AH) from the anterior chamber to an external reservoir to regulate flow and decrease the IOP. The AH is in direct communication with any corneal damage or surgery undertaken in the anterior chamber and can serve as a source of potential biomarkers to detect early inflammatory or glaucomatous changes. Tears are also one of the most accessible and non-invasive source of biomarkers, especially in Kpro eyes where the central optic allows communication between aqueous humor and the tears at the surface of the eye. The investigators propose to test the hypothesis that distinct inflammatory mediators in the AH and tears can serve as biomarkers for glaucoma development and progression after CT, making them specifically amenable to targeted treatment strategies to minimize vision loss.
