Filter by:The aim of this study is to evaluate the reaction time and postural control and to investigate the relationship between reaction time, exercise capacity, muscle oxygenation and balance in children with cystic fibrosis (CF) and non-CF bronchiectasis. 40 patients including 20 CF patients and 20 non-CF bronchiectasis and 20 healthy individuals will be included in this study. Demographic and physical characteristics' will be recorded. Lung function testing will be performed. Balance will be assessed using functional reach test, exercise capacity was measured using the incremental shuttle walking test and reaction time will be assessed using ''Fitlight TrainerTM''. Heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, muscle oxygenation, dyspnea and fatigue perception will be measured before and after exercise test and reaction time measurement.
Sarcopenia is an independent predictor of morbidity and mortality in the cirrhotic patient. Beta-hydroxy-beta-methyl butyrate (HMB) is a leucine metabolite with potential efficacy in increasing protein synthesis, muscle mass, and its functionality. The aim of this randomized controlled study is to evaluate the effect of nutritional supplementation with HMB and physical activity both on muscle mass and on muscle function in cirrhotic patients.
The investigators aim to identify urinary exosomal biomarkers that represent the extent of graft fibrosis from deceased donor kidney transplantation. Urinary samples will be collected from deceased kidney donors at the time of procurement and zero-day kidney graft biopsy will be performed at the time of transplant. The association between urinary exosomes and the degree of graft fibrosis will be analyzed to identify biomarkers that represent fibrosis. The correlation between these biomarkers and graft long term outcomes will be investigated.
A placebo-controlled, multicenter, randomized trial to test GKT137831 in ambulatory patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. This drug is an inhibitor of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase (NOX) isoforms. The investigators hypothesize the drug will decrease pulmonary injury due to reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated by NOX enzymes, which are believed to play an important role in the development of IPF. Treatment with GKT137831 could result in significant benefit for a lung disease that has, until now, been almost invariably inexorable. This clinical trial represents the bedside application of a series of NOX translational and basic studies and discoveries, over several years, from the laboratory of Dr. Victor Thannickal.
Ivacaftor caused a significance increase in weight in patients carrying the G551D mutation and the etiology of this has largely remained unknown but may be due to improved function of the gastrointestinal tract. The combination therapy of Orkambi has been recently approved for subjects with Cystic Fibrosis homozygous for F508del mutation. This provides an opportunity to examine if there are any improvements in gastrointestinal function. The investigators aim to investigate various aspects of gastrointestinal and pancreatic function before and 6 months after the commencement of Orkambi therapy.
Observational prospective study evaluating the developement of chronic pancreatitis based on imaging modalities as well as biochemical markers of inflammation, fibrosis and oxidative stress.
In a retrospective study, 200 patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, fatty liver hepatitis, and fatty liver fibrosis have been identified for pathological diagnosis of liver histology and exclusion of other liver diseases. Before the liver biopsy were performed, these patients should detect liver function, coagulation function, renal function, blood glucose, blood lipids, liver elasticity measurement and imaging indicators and results, and demographic data. To evaluate the diagnostic ability of the current non-invasive diagnostic model of NAFLD fibrosis and the adaptability of model indicators to the diagnosis of enrolled patients, and to correct the indicators, including discarding unsuitable indicators and incorporating new indicators, and adjusting the diagnostic score. Establish a non-invasive diagnostic model for liver fibrosis in Beijing based on NAFLD. In a prospective observational study, 100 patients without other liver diseases and ultrasound-tested fatty liver were enrolled, and histopathological diagnosis of liver were included in the study, and liver function, coagulation function, renal function, blood glucose, and non-invasive model analysis were detected. Blood lipids, liver elasticity measurements, and imaging indicators were examined and demographic data were collected. The non-invasive diagnostic model established by retrospective study was used to diagnose fibrosis and its staging, compared with histopathological diagnosis, and adjusted the index of non-invasive diagnostic model to further revise and improve the diagnostic efficacy of the diagnostic model. Long-term follow-up observations were performed in the prospective observation cohort. The liver function, coagulation function, renal function, blood glucose, blood lipids, liver elasticity and imaging examination were performed during the observation period, and the treatment events and the progress of the patients were recorded. To explore the correlation and predictive ability of noninvasive diagnostic models for long-term outcomes of disease. Finally, a model for predicting the outcome of progression of liver fibrosis in NAFLD was established.
Goal is to physiologically detect unsuspected small airways obstruction in children and adults with treated heterozygous and homozygous cystic fibrosis. Unsuspected refers to normal routine pre bronchodilator spirometry including normal FEV1(L), FVC (L). and FEV1/FVC%. This is a retrospective study.
This study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a single dose of Cellgramâ„¢ delivered via hepatic artery in patients with decompensated alcoholic liver cirrhosis.
1. Evaluation the safety of using human umbilical mesenchymal stem cells to treat patients with hepatitis B cirrhosis. 2. Observe the curative effect of patients with hepatitis B cirrhosis who use human umbilical mesenchymal stem cells to treat. 3. Explore the possible mechanism of human umbilical mesenchymal stem cells to treat patients with hepatitis B cirrhosis.
