Filter by:20 adults who applied to the orthopedic clinic with shoulder pain, did not require surgical intervention, were referred to the physiotherapy clinic for treatment; will be evaluated in terms of balance, pain and joint range of motion and then included in the exercise program. 20 adults without pain will be evaluated as the control group and the results will be compared within and between groups. Our hypothesis is that the balance will improve and pain will decrease in individuals after exercise.
Exercises used in shoulder rehabilitation compose of open kinetic chain and closed kinetic chain exercises.The force formed on the trunk and legs is transferred to the shoulder in open and closed kinetic chain exercises before shoulder muscles activation. It was shown that trunk and leg muscle activity changes when they are performed in different ground. But it is unknown how this alteration effect shoulder muscle activity. This will be provide a significance approach due to incremented of shoulder muscle activity is important for shoulder rehabilitation setting. To achieve this aim that is rising of muscle activity, various approach is applied including alteration of ground which individual performed exercise on it. And, it was shown that closed cinetic chain exercise which performed on different ground change shoulder muscle activity. However, it is unknown whether alteration of ground effect shoulder muscle activity or not in open cinetic chain exercise. That's why the aim of this study is to investigate alteration of scapulothoracic shoulder muscle activity in open cinetic chain shoulder exercise which enforced different ground.
Regular physical activity (PA) is essential to healthy aging. Unfortunately, only 5% of US adults meet guideline of 150 minutes of moderate exercise; Veterans and non-Veterans have similar levels of PA. A patient incentive program for PA may help. Behavioral economics suggests that the chronic inability to start and maintain a PA routine may be the result of "present bias," which is a tendency to value immediate rewards over rewards in the future. With present bias, it is always better to exercise tomorrow because the immediate gratification of watching television or surfing the internet is a more powerful motivator than the intangible and delayed benefit of future health. Patient incentives may overcome present bias by moving the rewards for exercise forward in time. Recent randomized trials suggest that incentives for PA can be effective, but substantial gaps in knowledge prevent the implementation of a PA incentive program in Veterans Affairs (VA). First, incentive designs vary considerably. They vary by the size of the incentive, the type of incentive (cash or non-financial), the probability of earning an incentive (an assured payment for effort or a lottery-based incentive), or whether the incentive is earned after the effort is given (a gain-framed incentive) or awarded up-front and lost if the effort is not given (a loss-framed incentive). The optimal combination of these components for a Veteran population is unknown. Second, the evidence about the effective components of incentives comes from studies conducted in populations that were overwhelmingly female; often employees at large companies, with high levels of education and income. VA users, in contrast, are mostly male and lower income, and most are not employed. This is important because the investigators have theoretical reasons to believe that the effects of components of incentives are likely to vary by income and gender. Finally, few studies have managed to design an incentive such that the physical activity was maintained after the incentive was removed. Indeed, a common theme in incentivizing health behavior change is the difficulty in sustaining behavior change once the incentives are removed.
Skeletal muscle plays several different roles in the promotion and maintenance of health and well-being. The loss of muscle mass that occurs with aging, chronic muscle wasting diseases, and physical inactivity puts people at an increased risk of frailty and becoming insulin resistant, and therefore imposes a significant burden on health care spending. Resistance exercise participation has proven particularly effective for increasing muscle mass and strength. This effectiveness can be used by health care practitioners in a rehabilitation setting to promote the recovery of individuals who have undergone involuntary periods of muscular unloading (i.e. limb immobilization caused by a sports injury or reconstructive surgery). However, there is large variability in the amount of muscle mass and strength that people gain following participation in resistance exercise. Some individuals fail to increase the size of their muscle (low responders) whereas others show vary large increases in muscle size (high responders) in response to the same resistance training program. People also show differences in the amount of muscle tissue they lose when they have a limb immobilized. To circumvent variability across individuals, the investigators utilized a within-person paired Hypertrophy and Atrophy ('HYPAT') strategy that reduced response heterogeneity by ~40% (Available at: https://ssrn.com/abstract=3445673). Specifically, one leg performed resistance training for 10 weeks to induce hypertrophy, whereas the other leg underwent single-leg immobilization for 2 weeks to induce atrophy. The primary goal of the study will be to gain insight into the molecular responses to an acute period of single-leg immobilization and resistance exercise (8 days). The investigators will use an integrated systems biology approach to monitor the individual rates of over one hundred different muscle proteins.
The main endpoint is physiological rehabilitation after VATS-L under early mobilization. The secondary endpoints are exploring the effect of early mobilization on postoperative physiology. Investigators hypothesis that early mobilization is clearly advantaged to advance the physiological recovery.
The main aim of this research is to compare the functional recovery after discharge with the preoperative physical activity as a hypothesis generating study.
A crisis situation leads to changes in life. During December 2019, many people contracted pneumonia in the Chinese city of Wuhan. On January 7, 2020, the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) was identified as the cause of this disease. Within five months, the virus spread around the globe and forced countries to restrict public life. Due to the high infection rates in Europe, a lockdown followed between March and April 2020 (except in Sweden). As the number of infections decreased, European countries began to gradually relax the lockdown from May 2020. The lockdown and the later stages of loosening have an impact on lifestyle. Institutions of higher education must also adapt to this situation and have switched to distance learning. The University of Applied Sciences of Bern (BFH), Department of Health Professions with the Departments (DHP) of Nutrition and Dietetics and Physiotherapy, considers the question of the degree to which nutritional and exercise behavior has changed. The findings provide recommendations for future crises for students and employees of the BFH-DHP. In order to achieve this, at the BFH-DHP two anonymous online surveys will be conducted.
As the number of cancer survivors grows and expected survival time increases, the health behaviors of this population are gaining significant attention from the research and public health community. Adoption or maintenance of healthy lifestyles after cancer has the potential to reduce both cancer- and non-cancer-related morbidity and mortality. Exercise adoption and maintenance remains a significant challenge for adults, especially clinical populations such as cancer survivors who may struggle with comorbidities, symptoms and side-effects of the disease or medications, and overall compromised health and functioning. A number of site-based exercise interventions have been conducted to promote physical activity, often using a theoretical basis to design and execute the intervention. Although these programs are successful in exposing cancer survivors to regular physical activity, they often struggle with exercise maintenance after the conclusion of the structured site-based group exercise sessions. The goal of the proposed project is to enhance physical activity engagement among adult cancer survivors by designing a home-based program using the socio-ecological framework and employing constructs from social cognitive theory to guide participants through the project.
Frailty is a complex elderly problem and a precursor of functional degradation in elder adults. The aim of this study will to test the effects of acupunch exercises on the frail older adults in long-term care facilities.
This study was designed as a prospective and experimental study. Geriatric individuals (age ≥ 65 years) with COPD and non-COPD were included in the study. Training program was identical for both groups and consisted of 4 weeks of foundation IMT followed by 4 weeks of functional IMT. Respiratory muscle strength, symptoms, exercise capacity, balance, postural control, physical activity and quality of life were evaluated.
