Inspiratory Muscle Training in COVID-19 Patients

This study aims to investigate whether adjunctive inspiratory muscle training (IMT) can enhance the benefits of pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) in patients with COVID-19. 120 patients will be randomized into an interventional group (PR plus IMT) and a control group (sham IMT plus PR). Improvement in quality of life, peak VO2 and VE/VCO2 slope will be defined as a primary outcome. Maximal inspiratory pressure, inspiratory muscle endurance, pulmonary function testing, severity of fatigue, cost-effectiveness and six minute walk test will be defined as the secondary outcomes.

Effect of Oral Ketone and Sodium Bicarbonate Administration During Endurance Exercise in Hypoxia

This study is investigating the effects of oral ketone and sodium bicarbonate administration on physiological and metabolic parameters during cycling endurance exercise in hypoxia. Ketone body supplementation is commonly used among elite endurance athletes that also compete in the hypoxia (at altitude). To-date effects of ketones have only been investigated in normoxia and the data in hypoxia is lacking. Hence, we want to investigate the effect of oral ketone ester intake with and without additional sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) ingestion on i) blood-acid base balance and ii) exercise performance during prolonged exercise under hypoxic conditions. Information obtained via this study should provide valuable information with regard to optimisation of exercise training and athletic performance, and more importantly, provide pioneering insight on the metabolic and physiological responses to ketosis under hypoxic conditions.

This study will evaluate the effects of a home-based resistance exercise programme v/s a home-based flexibility exercise programme on muscular endurance and flexibility on healthy adults. Half of the participants will undergo a 12-weeks home-based resistance exercise programme while the other half will undergo a 12-week home-based flexibility exercise programme.

Comparison of the Effects of Aerobic and Resistive Exercises in Female Patients With Rheumatoid Arthritis

It is aimed to objectively demonstrate and compare the effectiveness of aerobic and resistant exercises performed on female patients with rheumatoid arthritis with sonographic muscle measurements. In addition, it is planned to compare the effects of 2 group exercises on functional status, quality of life and body composition and to show its correlation with sonographic measurements. There are 3 groups in total in the study. These are the control group given only the range of motion exercise, the second group given the range of motion and resistance exercise, and the third group given the range of motion and aerobic exercise. Exercise programs will last 12 weeks and it is planned to exercise 3 days a week.

It is widely described in the literature that exercise training improves patients' exercise tolerance, quality of life, symptoms, anxiety and depression, regardless of the location. Despite overwhelming evidence of the benefits of exercise training, only a very small percentage of eligible people have ever completed a program. Alternative modes of exercise training are needed to improve equity of access for patients with chronic respiratory disease. So TeleRehabilitation, using information and communication technologies to provide distance exercise training services, may be an answer.

Summer Food Service Program

This pilot trial is designed to test the acceptability and preliminary efficacy of offering the BOKS program, an evidence-based physical activity curriculum that engages school-age children in moderate to vigorous physical activity for one hour daily, alongside the USDA's Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) during the summer. Eighty children, ages 6-12 years and from low-income households, will be randomized to participate in the BOKS + SFSP program or to the SFSP alone. We anticipate that the BOKS program will not only provide increased physical activity for the participants, but that it will help to promote participation in the SFSP given that it will be offered in the same location directly before the SFSP lunches are served.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic disease process characterized by degeneration and inflammation in the joint cartilage and subchondral bone, synovial fluid and joint capsule. One of the most affected joints in OA is the knee joint, and the incidence of OA increases with age. Different treatment approaches are used in the treatment of osteoarthritis. The aim of the study is to examine the effectiveness of Mulligan technique and core exercises applied to female patients with knee osteoarthritis. In addition, the investigators did not find any study examining the effect of Mulligan technique on static balance in the treatment of OA. This is the secondary aim of the study.
