Relationship Occupation and Physical Performance in Elderly

Start date: November 14, 2022
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Occupational competence indicates participating in a variety of occupations to meet the standards expected of the individuals' valued roles to sustain a pattern of occupational attitudes that is significant and satisfying. Physical performance declines with age. This causes problems with balance and falling. Balance and falling losses can also affect occupation. Our study was conducted to examine the relationship between physical performance and occupational balance in elderly individuals. According to the power analysis, it is planned to include the individual in the study. Individuals will only be evaluated and the relationship between scale results will be analyzed statistically.

NCT ID: NCT05531396 Not yet recruiting - Healthy Clinical Trials

Agility Training on Physical Performance, Cognitive Function and Brain Activities in Elderly

Start date: September 5, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Agility comprised of cognitive and physical functions, which influences whole-body movement with change of speed and direction. Agility training is widely used in athletes, and recent studies have begun to apply it into the elderly. Agility training is multidimensional and highly functional, which makes it possible to provide more efficient training in limited time. In elderly, the decrement of cognitive function, muscle strength in the upper and lower limbs, the percentage of body fat, body flexibility and endurance caused by aging will make it difficult for the elderly to perform movements. Therefore, it is essential to explore whether agility training can achieve the improvement of the physical function and cognitive function in elderly, and to find the relationship between the two functions and brain activity. Method: This study will recruit 60 participants, and randomly allocate to control group and agility training. The training groups will have 8 weeks of training, 2 times a week, 45 minutes of training each time. Assessment will be performed before and after intervention in 1-week, and with 1-month follow-up. Assessment including agility ability, physical function, cognitive function, brain activity, and functional assessment scales.

The Effects of the Instrumental Reminiscence Therapy

Start date: August 1, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study was planned to determine the effect of Remembrance Therapy Based on Roy's Adaptation Model on the level of life satisfaction, harmony and happiness of the elderly. The research will be conducted with elderly individuals staying in Kalkanlı Yaşam Evi and Bülent Ecevit Rehabilitation Center. The research consists of 2 stages. In the first phase, the adaptation experiences of the elderly individuals who have been hospitalized in both institutions in the last year in a qualitative design, the results to be determined will form the basis of the second phase of the study. The second stage of the research is planned to be conducted in an experimental type with pre-test and post-test control group. The intervention group will be the elderly living in Kalkanlı Yaşam house, and the control group will be the elderly staying in Bülent Ecevit R. The elderly who are in the intervention group will be given Remembering Therapy once a week for a total of 8 weeks. In the study, the Standardized Mini Mental Test prepared by the researcher, the "Descriptive Information Form for the Elderly Person", which includes questions about sociodemographic, social and medical characteristics and aims to identify elderly individuals, and in addition to these, the "Happiness Scale" to determine the happiness level of the elderly individuals. ', "Life Satisfaction Scale" will be used to evaluate life satisfaction and "Elderly Adaptation Difficulty Scale" will be used to evaluate their adaptation. Data will be collected by the researcher through face-to-face interviews with the elderly

NCT ID: NCT04696211 Not yet recruiting - Chronic Pain Clinical Trials

A Music-with-movement Exercise Program for Community-dwelling Older Adults Suffering From Chronic Pain: a Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial

Start date: April 1, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Background: The high prevalence of chronic pain in community-dwelling older adults requires attention from nurses. The aim of the present study is to use a music-with-movement exercise program to improve the pain situations of older adults with chronic pain. Aims and objectives: The aim of this study is to implement a music-with-movement exercise program (MMEP) for older adults suffering from chronic pain. The objectives of this study are: - To evaluate the effects of a music-with-movement exercise program on improving the pain intensity, pain self-efficacy, mood, and quality of life of the older adults with chronic pain - To observe the participants' level of adherence to the music-with-movement exercise by using an exercise logbook and measurements of heart rate Anticipated outcomes: This study will be a pilot randomized controlled trial. An 8-week music-with-movement exercise program will be used as the intervention for older adults with chronic pain in District Elderly Centers in Hong Kong. It will consist of four sessions of center-based, face-to-face activities and four weeks home-based and digital-based activities delivered through a WhatsApp group. A music therapist, in consultation with the physiotherapist, will lead the center-based activities. Each center-based session will consist of 30 minutes of music-with-movement exercise and 10 minutes of instruction on pain knowledge and pain management. Each participant will receive an exercise logbook to practice and record the frequency of their engagement in the music-with-movement exercise at home. They will receive WhatsApp reminders to remind them to continue the home-based sessions. Outcome measures include pain intensity, pain self-efficacy, mood, heart rate and physical activity intensity, and quality of life. Data will be collected before and after the intervention. Participants need to complete the exercise logbook to record their adherence to the intervention. The findings of this study will provide clinical implications for nurses to integrate music with movement exercise to manage pain.

Elderly Who Received Horticulturel Therapy

Start date: March 11, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Horticultural Therapy (HT) method refers to the process of using gardening as a method to maintain and improve the existing health status of the individual, which can be applied by healthcare professionals. Horticultural therapy method is an application that positively contributes to the cognitive, physical, social, emotional processes and entertainment processes of the elderly. Collins and O 'Callaghan (2008 ) and Yao and Chen (2016) showed that older individuals with serious illness and weakness had improved health outcomes when they were busy with plants. In a study by Yao and Chen (2016); Individuals aged 65 years and older were treated with HT once a week for eight weeks, and an increase in daily life activities, happiness and interpersonal affinity was observed. In another semi-experimental study by Tse (2010), elderly individuals were given HT for eight weeks, after which an increase in life satisfaction and social communication of the elderly and a significant decrease in loneliness were found. These results showed that HT can be used for therapeutic purposes in the elderly. While horticultural therapy is used as a therapeutic approach for the elderly in nursing homes, there is still no such study in the geography we live in. The research was planned to determine the effect of hortic culture therapy on the loneliness and happiness levels of the elderly living in the nursing home.

NCT ID: NCT04170218 Not yet recruiting - Knee Osteoarthritis Clinical Trials

Quality of Care for Knee and Hip Osteoarthritis in Elderly Patients

QSAMISA
Start date: December 1, 2019
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Introduction: Hip and knee osteoarthritis (OA) was ranked in 2010 as the eleventh highest contributor to global disability. In France in 2014, non-spinal OA was the leading self-reported cause of morbidity among adults over sixty-five years of age, with a prevalence of 49.5 per cent. OA is known to be the first cause of disability in activities of daily life and a risk factor of frailty among people over seventy-five years of age. Despite its major impact on the elderly population's quality of life and health, quality of care for OA in elderly patients remains understudied. Objective: The study aims to assess the quality of care for knee and hip OA in patients aged 75 years and over.
