Filter by:It is not yet known whether an analysis of daytime sleepiness over the course of the day can predict the diagnosis or severity of sleep apnea. The goal of the study is to examine whether a psychometric determination of daytime sleepiness can adequately and practicably record daytime sleepiness in patients with mainly sleep apnea in comparison to other standardized methods.
Background: Intestinal microbiota composition is fundamental to human health and undergoes critical changes within the first two years of life. Factors probably influencing the microbiota are the maternal microbiota and the general environment in Switzerland. However, the development of the intestinal microbiota is incompletely understood. Gaining knowledge of the trajectory of microbiota maturation is likely key to the understanding of the pathogenesis of many pathologies in childhood. Aims: The investigators aim for a deep understanding of the maturation of the healthy infant intestinal microbiota regarding composition, diversity and metabolic activities. The investigators aim for identifying parameters affecting microbiota maturation and effects of the microbiota on infant outcome. Methods: The investigators will recruit 250 pregnant mothers who will be followed as mother-baby pairs until 10 years of age. Infants will be followed clinically to determine adequate growth and development as well as pathology including abdominal pain. Epidemiological parameter and infant nutrition will be assessed. The investigators will collect biological samples such as stool, maternal milk, vaginal swaps and skin swaps. Species composition and diversity will be assessed by 16S sequencing. Metagenomic shotgun sequencing and bacterial messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) analysis will inform about metabolic potential and metabolic activity of the microbiota. Mass spectrometry will assess the small molecule content of stool and maternal milk samples. Network analysis will be used to assess the complex relationships between bacteria metabolic activities and small molecular content. Expected results: The investigators expect an increase in complexity and metabolic potential and activity with age. Microbiota parameters will differ according to nutrition and might predict infant outcomes such as growth and abdominal pain. Systematic analysis of sequential maternal and infant bacteria samples from stool, skin and maternal milk will help characterizing bacterial transfer from mother to infant Conclusion: The investigators propose an observational study of healthy Bern mother baby pairs with clinical characterisation and biological sampling. Advanced analysis tools will be used to characterise the microbiota and address mechanistic questions.

The primary purpose of this study was to assess the safety and tolerability of multiple doses of buprenorphine/naloxone alone and buprenorphine/naloxone in combination with a single dose of ASP8062. This study also assessed the potential for pharmacokinetic interaction between ASP8062 and buprenorphine/naloxone.
This study is part of the current global emergency scenario due to infection with Coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2 as indicated by the international taxonomy. Study aim is to investigate the possibility of the presence of the virus within the seminal fluid and in the urine of infected patients, both during the acute phase and remotely. Current evidences show that Coronaviruses can be present inside the testicle and sperm in other species, such as in feline and avian models. In human beings, current researches have mixed results regarding the presence of SARSCoV-2 in urine, as several studies with a large sample found no traces of the same with Real-Time Reverse method Transcriptase - Polymerase Chain Reaction or with method of nucleic acid amplification. By contrast, in just over 6% of 58 patients with Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction method have found the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in the urine, even at a distance from the last negative nasopharyngeal swab. Given the topicality of the problem, our study has the objective of specifically researching the presence and possible persistence over time of SARS-CoV-2 in seminal fluid and urine. A saliva sample will also be collected as a control. At the moment there are no studies in literature that tested this possibility. If confirmed, it would lead to find out another potential method of transmission, the sexual one, in asymptomatic patients or apparently no longer infectious with negative buffer. The rationale for our study is the evidence that in other species this type of transmission by coronaviruses is possible and that at present it has not been verified in mankind. The relevance of the study would be both in the case of a negative result, as the first study in its generally, both in the case of a positive result, due to the possibility of introducing new prevention measures in the long run.
Needle based confocal laser endomicroscopy (nCLE) employs a small fiber which can be passed through a biopsy needle to enable real time microscopic imaging of cells. With resolution of 3.5 microns it is possible to identify key features consistent with malignancy and pulmonary fibrosis. (Wijmans, et al., 2019). The effectiveness of nCLE with intravenous fluorescein has been demonstrated in central lung cancers using esophageal ultrasound guided needle placement (Wijmans, et al., 2019). In this study, the proposed nCLE lung cancer criteria had high accuracy for lung cancer detection and were consistently recognized by multiple raters. Probe based confocal microscopy (pCLE) has also been used in conjunction with a radial probe EBUS in evaluating solitary pulmonary nodules with a diagnostic accuracy of 79.2%. (Hassan, et al., 2017) Needle based confocal laser endomicroscopy (nCLE) has not previously been used in conjunction with robotic navigational bronchoscopy.

To enhance the socio-professional insertion of persons with severe mental disorders, the investigators developed a group program about self-presentation and body esteem. The study's objective is to understand the body esteem impact on socio-professional insertion, and how to improve that with a dedicated group program, for patients in a psychosocial rehabilitation center
Altered gamma activity has been observed in several neurological and psychiatric disorders, including a reduction in gamma synchronization in patients with disorders of consciousness. Modulation of gamma oscillations with rhythmic stimulation has been used as a possible therapeutic tool. Hence, we try to use acoustic and electric stimulation at gamma frequency to restore brain oscillation and thereby to improve conscious awareness in patients with disorders of consciousness.
The primary aim of this study is to establish how frequently patients with coronary artery disease present or develop two anxiety disorders (panic disorder and generalized anxiety disorder) in the two years following a medical intervention for their heart. A second objective is to assess the impact of these anxiety disorders on the health of these patients.
A randomized blinded feasibility study using the Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-26) and the Reflective Functioning Questionnaire RFQ - as the main outcome to assess two interventions for eating disorders. Six experienced therapists, and their consecutively 8-9 admitted clients, were randomly allocated to the intervention group and control group. The sample included a total of 52 participants, all women, mean age 24.2 yrs. old. In the intervention group, participants received mentalization-based psychotherapy with ECOSA - a novel developed mentalization tool and in the control group, participants received interpersonal psychotherapy that focused on resolving interpersonal problems and symptomatic recovery. Four randomized samples for each participant were checked for therapy-focused fidelity by two different psychotherapists.
