Filter by:This non-interventional, multi-centric, cross-sectional study is aimed to determine the prevalence of Chronic Kidney Disease in Indian patients with Type 2 Diabetes (T2DM). 3000 patients will be enrolled from 30 investigative sites all over the country. Each investigative site will be expected to enrol 100 subjects. All the procedures will be completed in a single day.
This trial is conducted in Asia. The aim of the trial is to investigate safety and efficacy of semaglutide once weekly in monotherapy or in combination with one OAD (oral anti-diabetic drug) in Japanese subjects with type 2 diabetes who are insufficiently controlled on diet/exercise therapy or OAD monotherapy. All subjects will continue their pre-trial treatment (diet and exercise therapy or OAD monotherapy in addition to diet and exercise therapy) during the trial.
This trial is conducted in the United States of America (USA). The aim of the trial is to investigate the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of once-daily subcutaneous (SC) injections of NNC0090-2746 for 12 weeks, as an adjunct to metformin, in participants with T2D.
To compare the acute effect of soluble fiber intake from foods or supplement after a common meal on postprandial plasma glucose and insulin in patients with type 2 diabetes. The hypothesis is a meal with a high content of soluble fiber from food determines glycemic and insulinemic response similar to a meal with a high content of soluble fiber from supplement sources.
Anyone who practices clinical medicine will understand that socially disadvantaged children will have worse health outcomes, no matter what the underlying condition might be. There is limited prospective data on the effects of social deprivation on children in BC and there is none concerning the effects of social deprivation on children with chronic diseases. In order to generate relevant data for those who manage children with chronic diseases in BC, the investigators wish to perform an observational study of the relationship between questionnaire-derived social variables and measured outcomes in children with cystic fibrosis, type 1 diabetes, and chronic kidney disease. Our working hypothesis is that there is an association between social determinants of health (income, education, race) and health outcomes in children with cystic fibrosis, type 1 diabetes and chronic renal failure, that is independent of access to health care (assessed by distance to nearest specialty clinic and number of clinic visits in the last year).
Cystic fibrosis-related diabetes (CFRD) occurs in almost 20% of teens and 50% of adults. The investigators' long term goal is to determine the cause of CFRD in order to translate this knowledge into therapies aimed at preventing CFRD. Since CFRD and type 2 diabetes share several clinical features and since oxidative stress is a key factor in the development of type 2 diabetes, the investigators explored the role of oxidative stress in CFRD. The investigators discovered a unique CF biochemical signature that they believe could be implicated in the development of CFRD. The investigators found that glucose ingestion in CF teens and young adults causes an acute and profound systemic redox imbalance to the oxidizing state. The degree of redox imbalance was quite severe and would be expected to damage the insulin producing cells as these cells are particularly vulnerable to oxidative stress. Thus, these findings could prove to be a critical factor in the pathogenesis of CFRD. This proposal will test the hypothesis that glucose-induced redox imbalance is an intrinsic, metabolic defect in CF. In addition, because CF people are required to consume a high calorie diet to maintain their weight, the investigators also hypothesize that certain high caloric foods will recapitulate the redox imbalance induced by ingesting glucose and thus hasten the development of CFRD. Specifically, the investigators aim to: - Determine whether young children with CF have glucose-induced redox imbalance - Determine whether eating a meal with a high glycemic index induces acute redox imbalance - Determine whether commonly consumed beverages containing simple sugars (i.e., soda or fruit juice) induce acute redox imbalance
This study is being conducted to evaluate the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics of GSK2330672 compared to sitagliptin when administered with metformin for 14 days to subjects with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Approximately 72 male and female subjects aged 30-64 years with T2DM and currently taking metformin will be recruited for this study. Eligible subjects will begin a run-in period of 13-15 days to stabilize on metformin 850 milligram (mg) twice a day (BID). Subjects will then be randomized to GSK2330672 10 mg, 20 mg, 30 mg, 90 mg, matching placebo or open-label sitagliptin 50 mg for 14 days BID. Subjects will return for a follow-up visit 7-10 days after discharge.

Health professionals usually lead in the management of long term conditions such as Diabetes. In a conventional professionally driven compliance model of care, patients may be placed in a secondary role. National audits show components of systematic diabetes care consistently fail despite several years of heavy expenditure in the service focused Diabetes Quality and Outcome Framework. To what extent is this due to the nature of that process which may not engage patients nor be focused on informed patient centred concerns? The aim of this research is to determine the effectiveness of a healthcare delivery approach in which patients, empowered with structured guidance and specific information about their diabetes, take decisions to get involved in their diabetes care as determined in hard measures of engagement and outcomes. The methodology will be by a whole population cluster randomised controlled study of an intervention the delivery of an individualised diabetes specific structured report, and we will look at its impact on measured key diabetes access and process outcomes. The contention is that the patients, guided in their understanding of empowerment and enablement, equipped with highly person specific risk stratified outcome based information, and informed regarding which actions they may accordingly take, will be enabled to make a significant and impactful contribution in improvement in their own care . This large scale project can deliver on that research question in a tested , efficient and cost effective manner.
In this project, the investigators hypothesize that in an integrated, multifaceted, team-based program incorporating comprehensive assessment with risk stratification, diabetic patients with high risk of negative emotions and hospitalization will benefit from additional peer support which will improve their psychological health, cardio-metabolic control, self-management, quality of life and reduce hospitalization. The investigators further hypothesize that peer support will interact with regular personalized feedback reporting to improve clinical outcomes.
