Filter by:The primary aim of this study is to investigate the acute changes in liver fat content in response to a fixed carbohydrate restriction (i.e. intake of 60g/day or 70g/day for women and men, respectively) in individuals with obesity. This will be performed both as 2 days of very low calorie diet (500 and 600 kcal/day for women and men, respectively) and 2 days of eucaloric low carbohydrate diet.
Offloading plays an important part Diabetic foot ulcers healing. The modular design of the DiaSole would allow the offloading cavity to be changed in line with the changing ulcer dimensions. It may be possible to use the DiaSole for other causes of neuropathic foot ulcerations (such as rheumatoid arthritis), but the safety of the insole needs assessing first. There is already evidence to support the use of offloading insoles in the healing and prevention of pressure ulcers, DiaSole may be an improved insole for this purpose.
The aim of the present study is to investigate the associations between the TyG index and diabetic nephropathy in patients with type2 DM .
Aim: The aim of this study is to determine whether a prediabetes mobile application (PREDIABE-TR) designed in Turkish to inform and advise individuals at risk of developing diabetes about healthy eating and physical exercise can make a difference in the participants' eating according to the Mediterranean Diet Plan, or in their physical activity and other diabetes-related metabolic parameters. Methods: A total of 120 adults at risk of developing diabetes will be assigned into an experimental and a control group by means of Stratified Permuted Block Randomization. The adults in the experimental group will be using the PREDIABE-TR mobile application for a period of 6 months. Over the same period, the control group will use the Turkish Nutrition Guide and the Diabetes Checklists mobile application distributed by the Turkish Ministry of Health. At the end of the six-month period, a review will be made of the diabetes metabolic data, physical activity levels and the Mediterranean Diet eating behaviors. At the same time, an assessment will be made of the control group's use of the mobile application with the help of the Mobile Application Usability Scale. Statistical data will be analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences program. Discussion: The benefits of interventions to promote a healthy lifestyle are evident in terms of preventing a transition from prediabetes to diabetes and maintaining present status. The current novel coronavirus pandemic has clearly shown the advantages of and necessity for remote interventions. In this study, we will attempt to determine whether or not the use of the PREDIABE-TR mobile application can promote a healthy lifestyle and achieve a reduced risk of diabetes. Impact: This study will serve to provide evidence of the practicality, acceptability and cost effectiveness of various applications (such as mobile apps) that can be an alternative to face-to-face consultation and other medical practices. This alternative can be suggested to policy- and decision-makers. Such applications can also be considered preventive strategies.
The specific aims of this project are to culturally adapt the DM-BOOST intervention for Latinx patients, usability test 'DM-BOOST para Latinx' to optimize cultural appropriateness and patient engagement and conduct a feasibility evaluation of DM-BOOST para Latinx. These aims will be accomplished via a community-based participatory research approach in collaboration with clinical, community and patient partners. This project will inform subsequent proposals to evaluate implementation of DM-BOOST in the UMass Memorial Health Care system.
During the observational, non-interventional study, at Baseline Study Visit (BSV) subjects will be screened and consented. Eligible subjects will undergo imaging with the DeepView device. Pre- and post-debridement images will be obtained (if debridement performed per SOC), as well as reviewing medical history and physical assessments. Additional Study Visits (SVs) will be performed when patient returns to the clinic for Routine Clinic Visit for up to 12 weeks or wound closure. During these visits DeepView imaging will occur pre- and post-debridement, and the status of the subject's treatment will be recorded.
Despite the benefits of physical rehabilitation among adults and children with chronic illness such as Diabetes mellitus avoid engaging in different physical activities especially pediatric population. Most of the children with type 1 Diabetes mellitus receive their medical treatment and follow-up with no change of their functional performance.
The project (PlanPerioMed) is a register-based study evaluating the associations and patterns of health care delivery between periodontitis and medical diseases using data from the Danish dental record system Dentalsuite (Plandent A/S) and national Danish health care registries with three overall hypotheses/ aims: - Determine the extent to which periodontitis in registry data is associated with more odontological treatment services and treatment frequency. - Determine if patients with systemic diseases attend dentists more frequently and receive more treatment services per patient than the population without these diseases. - Determine to which extent periodontitis and received periodontal treatment affects the risk of medical diseases. The study will focus on association and trajectories of periodontitis and its treatment with three medical diseases, namely, Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (Type 2 DM), Cardiovascular Diseases (CVD) and Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). The dataset consists of approximately 4,000,000 people aged between 18 and 99 years attending private practice in Denmark. The results from PlanPerioMed study are likely to have ramifications for treatment guidelines for other periodontitis comorbidities, e.g. CVD and DM, and will thereby improve the quality of life for a wide range of patients and reduce long-term societal health care expenses related to periodontitis and its comorbidities.
The purpose of this study is to test the feasibility and preliminary efficacy of the iCan Diabetes Self-Management and Prevention Support Group using a single arm clinical trial. The program is composed of six weekly sessions, and it will be implemented with 60 adults (aged 18 years or older) who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes or prediabetes and evaluated using mixed methods. A pre-test will be conducted before the program implementation and a post-test will be conducted three months after the pre-test. Focus groups will be conducted shortly after the last session to obtain feedback on the program. Between the last session and the post-test, weekly emails/texts will be sent to keep participants engaged and maximize retention rate.
Current evidence suggests a bidirectional association between periodontitis and diabetes. Periodontal therapy improves short term HbA1c levels and is safe to perform. Most studies are focused on type 2 Diabetes. Literature about the correlation between periodontitis and type 1 diabetes is scarce, since no randomized clinical trials have been performed. The objective of the present clinical investigation is to evaluate the effects of nonsurgical treatment of periodontal disease on glycemic variability in patients with type 1 diabetes (T1DM). The hypothesis is that nonsurgical periodontal therapy affects glycemic variability in terms of time spent in hyperglycemia.
