Filter by:This study evaluates a new test formulation of a glucose lowering drug, insulin lispro, delivered by an insulin pump continuously under the skin. The study will be conducted in participants with type 1 diabetes mellitus to investigate how the human body processes the new test formulation and its effect on blood sugar levels when it is delivered via an insulin pump. Side effects and tolerability will be documented. The study will last about 4 to 11 weeks, including screening, lead-in and follow up. Screening is required within 28 days prior to entering the study.

The purpose of this study is to determine whether a simple text message reminder sent to the parent of an child/adolescent with Type 1 Diabetes(or parent and adolescent) is effective in helping the individual(or parent) become more compliant with self-managing the Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). There will be 5 arms: text message sent to parents of children age 8-12 years old with T1D, text messages sent to parents of adolescents ,age 13-18 years old, with T1D,text messages sent to parents of adolescents with T1D as well as the adolescent with T1D,no text message sent to parents of children age 8-12 years, and no text message sent to adolescents or parents of adolescents age 13-18 years old.
The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of adding a SGLT-2 inhibitor (namely Canagliflozin) on the dose of U-500 insulin required to achieve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes. We hypothesize that adding Canagliflozin to patients treated with U-500 insulin may result in significant reduction in insulin dose due to improved insulin sensitivity and weight loss.
To assess whether there is a difference in endogenous insulin secretion, measured as stimulated C-peptide secretion (area under the curve during a 4-hour mixed meal tolerance test), at the 1 year visit, for study subjects receiving combinational therapy versus those receiving placebo. The study will also examine the effect of the proposed treatments on immunological outcomes, specifically proportion of regulatory T cells at the 1 year visit.
Diabetic nephropathy (kidney problems caused by diabetes) is a devastating chronic vascular complication of diabetes. New treatments are urgently needed for preventing or slowing down the progression of diabetic kidney disease. Samples of serum/plasma/urine will be obtained from patients with diabetes and different degree of renal impairment. In this project cells in culture will be treated with plasma or serum or urine; cells extracts or supernatant will be studied to screen for modulation (activation/inhibition) of different cellular pathways using gene array, metabolomic and/or proteomic. Once some cellular pathways have been identified specific analysis will be conducted on the biological material collected to confirm specific "cell signatures" that could represent potential target for treatment.
Type II Diabetes Mellitus patients having surgery who adhere to their regular scheduled metformin dosing and take this medication on the morning of surgery will have better glycemic control peri-operatively and potentially suffer less morbidity compared to individuals taking a placebo.
In this study, the investigators will conduct a randomized, controlled trial to evaluate the impact of offering mobile secure text messaging on clinical outcomes.
The GlucoMe device, in its original packaging, along with the user manual and QuickStart guide will be provided to the patient in a simulated home use environment. The patient labeling will be in the format intended for distribution. Ten (10) subjects identified as potential end users of the GlucoMe device will receive the user manual. An additional ten (10) subjects also identified as potential end users of the GlucoMe device will NOT receive the user manual. All subjects will be provided with a pre-test and post-test questionnaire and a list of tasks to complete, including applying and operating the device. The observer and user post-test questionnaire will collect information regarding device use. The device's use will be compared with identified risks to determine if the percentage of failures is within the study protocol success criteria. Additionally, measurable usability criteria for specific, critical steps will be evaluated.
