Filter by:Forgetting is usually listed as the most important cause of low adherence among patients. Most studies to date have looked at the adherence of adults or adolescent population. No studies have been done looking specifically at adherence to topical treatment by parents/caregivers of young children. Our project will try to replicate the same results among the parents/caregivers responsible for children ten years and under. The population in this study will be the parents/caregivers of children 10 and under with atopic dermatitis and the intervention will be the effect of electronic reminders in adherence rates for the use of a moisturizer which is recognized as part of the standard of care in the treatment of atopic dermatitis.
This pilot clinical trial studies KeraStat Skin Therapy in treating radiation dermatitis in patients with newly diagnosed stage 0-IIIA breast cancer. Radiation dermatitis is an itchy, painful skin rash that can occur following treatment with radiation. KeraStat Skin Therapy may be a better treatment for radiation dermatitis.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and tolerability, as well as effectiveness, with regards to the order of application for Locoid Lipocream and Hylatopic Plus cream in patients with atopic dermatitis (AD), which is a type of skin rash.Topical skin barrier repair therapies (BRT) that are plain moisturizing creams/lotions with added lipids (fats/oils), such as Hylatopic Plus cream, have emerged as an effective addition to the the treatment of atopic dermatitis. BRTs are often used along with topical steroids (medicated creams), such as Locoid lotion, on skin with AD, and as a monotherapy (single treatment) on both non-diseased and diseased skin. Since BRTs help to restore components of skin that are absent in skin with AD, it is believed that long-term BRT use may reduce further development of further AD. This is an open-label, single site study.
This first-in-human (FIH) study is a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled, ascending dose study to investigate the safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics of XmAb7195 in adult healthy volunteers and in adult subjects with elevated IgE levels.
Unlike healthy control skin, the skin of patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) is frequently colonized by Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), putting these patients at increased risk of S. aureus skin infections. In addition, research in the investigator's lab has shown that these patients have fewer protective Staphylococcal species such as Staphylococcus epidermidis (S. epidermidis) that are known to produce antimicrobial peptides that play a role in protecting the skin from invading pathogens. In this study, the study team will attempt to decrease S. aureus colonization and increase colonization by protective Staph species in AD patients by first culturing the bacteria on subjects' lesional AD skin. The study team will selectively grow the subject's protective Staph colonies and place them into a moisturizer. The first part of the study will determine the half-life of the bacteria-containing moisturizer. The bacteria-containing moisturizer will be applied to a subject's arm, and the subject will return at four different time points over the next three days for skin swabs of the arm that will be used to determine the amount and type of bacteria on the arm at those time points. In the second part of the study, the subject will apply moisturizer containing his own antimicrobial bacteria to one of his arms for a total of 6 times at a frequency determined by the half-life, which will be computed at the end of the first part of this experiment. The subject will return prior to the 7th application time point for skin swabs of the arm to ensure that there are still viable bacteria from the moisturizer present on the arm. In the third part of the study, each subject will receive both moisturizer as well as moisturizer plus his own antimicrobial bacteria. The subject will apply the moisturizer to one arm and the moisturizer plus bacteria to the other arm daily for a total of 15 days. Subjects will return to the clinic every 5 days for skin swabs and clinical evaluations. If the moisturizer containing bacteria is able to decrease the S. aureus colonization on subject's arms, the study team hypothesizes that subjects will have improvement of their AD symptoms.
Radiation dermatitis is experienced by almost all patients (up to 95%) receiving radiation therapy for cancer. Radiation dermatitis can be a serious condition because, in addition to its direct physical complications and the resulting impact on overall quality of life, it can also be a dose-limiting toxicity requiring changes to the prescribed course of radiation therapy. The most common strategy employed in an attempt to prevent or minimize radiation dermatitis involves moisturization of the irradiated area, use of a mild soap to keep the area clean, and minimizing exposure to potential mechanical irritants, such as scratching and rough clothing. However, this strategy has been shown to lack clinically significant efficacy. Consequently, there is a clinical need for new treatments that are effective in protecting against radiotherapy-induced oxidative stress and the subsequent development of radiation dermatitis. Based on data from previous studies in animals and humans, Reata believes that omaveloxolone (RTA 408) Lotion may effectively prevent and mitigate radiation dermatitis in oncology patients undergoing radiation therapy. This randomized, double-blind, vehicle-controlled, parallel-group trial will study the efficacy, tolerability and safety of two concentrations of omaveloxolone (RTA 408) Lotion (3% and 0.5%) versus vehicle in patients with breast cancer for whom radiation therapy is recommended.
The purpose of this study is to determine whether the dosage of 0.1% tacrolimus ointment applied on unit area of eczema influence the efficacy of treatment.
The main objectives of the study are: To determine if RNA recovery from tape harvesting allows for the identification of a disease gene signature (e.g., interferon [IFN] signature for lupus) or other biomarkers that may differentiate affected from normal or unaffected skin; To determine if the lupus gene signature is differentially expressed in the epidermis from active discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) or subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus (SCLE) lesions when compared with unaffected skin from the same participants and from the skin of healthy volunteers (HVs); To determine if the atopic dermatitis (AD) gene signature is differentially expressed in the epidermis from active AD lesions when compared with unaffected skin from the same participants and from the skin of HVs; and To correlate the levels of transcripts of targeted genes in the skin by tape harvesting with those obtained from the blood.
