This is a study to assess the distribution, metabolism and excretion of [14C]AZD6765 after a single-dose intravenous administration.
The purpose of this study is to determine the efficacy of In-Home Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (IH-CBT) in comparison to Present-Centered Therapy (PCT), a supportive therapeutic approach. IH-CBT is adapted form of CBT that is provided to depressed mothers participating in ongoing home visitation services. IH-CBT has been adapted to fit the setting, population, and context associated with home visiting. Mothers are recruited at 4 months postpartum. A comprehensive assessment battery is administered at pre-treatment, post-treatment, and 6, 12, and 18 months after the end of treatment. It is hypothesized that IH-CBT will be superior to PCT in decreasing depression, improving overall functioning, enhancing parenting effectiveness, and preventing relapse.
This study is a single-center, single-blind, randomized, controlled, parallel group, pilot trial involving 40 participants with mild to moderate depression. The main study hypothesis is that compared to depressed participants randomized to the classroom control group, depressed participants randomized to the yoga exercise group will achieve statistically significant reduction in depression severity, as measured by scores on the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II). Individuals meeting all eligibility criteria will be randomized equally to one of two intervention groups: an active intervention group assigned to practice yoga exercises, versus a classroom control group assigned to attend a yoga philosophy course. Participants in both interventions groups will meet for 90-minute sessions 2 times per week for 8 weeks total. Upon completion of the assigned study intervention, any participant randomized to the classroom control group will have the option of attending free yoga sessions at UCSF to learn and practice the yoga exercises used in the active intervention.
Duke University Medical Center in collaboration with Glendale Adventist Medical Center propose a randomized clinical trial of conventional cognitive behavior therapy (CCBT) vs. religious cognitive behavior therapy (RCBT) for major depression in medical patients with chronic disabling illness. Therapists will deliver the treatment in real time over the Internet and/or by telephone to increase treatment access. This planning grant seeks support for a two-site study (North Carolina and California) that consists of two phases. In Phase I (Rounsaville 1a) the investigators will conduct an open trial of 30 patients to assess subject recruitment, refine RCBT and CCBT manuals and protocol, assess compliance with treatment, acceptability of treatment and delivery system (online vs. telephone), and allow therapists gain experience with delivery system and RCBT. In Phase II (Rounsaville 1b) the investigators will conduct a randomized proof of concept comparison of CCBT vs. RCBT that will demonstrate feasibility and confirm the expected clinically meaningful difference for a definitive R01 application. In Phase II, 70 religious patients ages 18-85 with a new episode of major depression (MINI), scores of 16-35 on the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and at least one chronic disabling medical illness will be randomized to either CCBT or RCBT. The trial will consist of ten 50 min sessions administered by master's level therapists and delivered over 12 weeks. The primary endpoint will be BDI score at baseline, 4, 8, 12, and 24-week follow-up. Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, and Muslim versions of the RCBT manual will be developed, and CBT experts in each of these traditions will supervise therapists delivering the intervention to patients from these faith traditions. The purpose of this study is to determine feasibility and effect sizes for a future, fully powered treatment study. The importance is that results will be relevant to therapists well beyond those who explicitly practice pastoral counseling, extending to many secular therapists as well. If 65% of Americans indicate that religion is an important part of daily life and the vast majority of chronically ill medical patients wish to include it in their therapy, then all therapists (whether they have explicit training in pastoral counseling or not) are likely to encounter patients in which this approach would be applicable.
The goal of this study is to compare supportive-expressive therapy, a type of psychodynamic psychotherapy, with cognitive therapy for the treatment of depression in community mental health consumers. Hypothesized mediators of treatment will also be examined.
This study aims to examine the antidepressant efficacy of riluzole, employing a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, adjunctive trial in treatment-resistant major depressive disorder (TRD).
The purpose of this study is to determine whether completing a computer-based program alters changes how the brain processes emotional information and improves symptoms of depression.
For this trial, the investigators propose a prospective trial of a collaborative care program to identify and treat depression, generalized anxiety disorder, and panic disorder among patients admitted to the hospital for an acute cardiac illness (acute coronary syndrome, congestive heart failure, or arrhythmia). Such assessment and treatment for depression/generalized anxiety disorder/panic disorder will begin in the hospital, and ongoing management will continue for six months following discharge. The investigators hypothesize that this model will lead to increased treatment rates, improved mood, reduced anxiety, and improved medical outcomes in this vulnerable population. If this model is effective, it could be implemented clinically to provide better and more complete care to patients hospitalized with acute cardiac illness, for whom depression and anxiety may be a risk factor for complications and death. This will be a two-arm, single-blind randomized controlled trial, with one-half of patients randomized to collaborative care and one-half randomized to the control condition (usual care). Psychiatric treatment in the intervention arm will be provided in concert with patients' primary care physicians—with primary care physicians prescribing all medications—within a framework supervised by a psychiatrist. The investigators will enroll patients who have any (or all) of the three included psychiatric diagnoses to improve the utility of the intervention. The investigators have chosen to enroll patients with several different cardiac diagnoses. This will allow the researchers to include patients with heterogeneous diagnoses and illness severity to determine if our intervention is effective in a broad population of patients with heart disease. The investigators will study an intervention targeting depression, generalized anxiety disorder, and panic disorder: all three disorders are disabling and associated with adverse cardiovascular outcomes, treatments for the conditions are highly similar, the investigators can treat patients who have more than one disorder, and a prior outpatient program successfully simultaneously addressed more than one mental health condition. The project will involve: (1) screening patients for depression, generalized anxiety disorder, and panic disorder as part of usual clinical care, (2) evaluation of positive-screen patients by a study social work care manager, (3) a multicomponent in-hospital intervention (for collaborative care patients) that involves patient education, specialist-provided treatment recommendations, and a goal of in-hospital treatment initiation, and (4), after discharge, continued phone-based evaluation and care coordination with primary care physicians to provide stepwise treatment in the collaborative care arm. The intervention has been designed to be low-cost, low-burden, and easily generalizable to other settings.
This study is a randomized controlled trial comparing Interpersonal Psychotherapy-Adolescent Skills Training (IPT-AST) to group counseling (GC) for the prevention of depression in adolescents. The project will: (1) identify adolescents with elevated depressive symptoms but who do not meet criteria for a current mood disorder diagnosis; (2) randomize eligible adolescents to either IPT-AST (N = 100) or GC (N = 100); (3) assess depressive symptoms, depressive disorders, global functioning, interpersonal functioning, comorbid conditions and school related indices at baseline, mid-intervention, post-intervention, and at 6-, 12-, 18-, and 24-month follow-up; (4) examine the effects of IPT-AST on depression and various domains of functioning at each time point; and (5) conduct analyses to examine potential mediators and moderators of the association between IPT-AST and depression outcomes. This study will yield data on the efficacy of IPT-AST relative to GC for the prevention of depressive symptoms and depressive disorders. It will also provide information about the mechanisms of action of IPT-AST and determine for whom IPT-AST is most effective.
