Hand Assistive Rehabilitation Orthotic Device Effectiveness Study

The primary objective of this study is to evaluate pinch strength improvements and improvements in coordination and functional ability. Pinch strength measurements are made on subjects both with and without the device to evaluate the potential improvements. Also, coordination and functional testing is performed both with and without the device to compare performance under both conditions and evaluate potential improvement.

The primary goal of this project is to identify the best messaging and implementation strategies to maximize SARS-CoV-2 testing for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their teachers to help ensure a safe school environment. Additionally, we will understand nationally the perceptions of COVID-19 and identify facilitators and barriers to help with the adoption of testing in other parts of the US and the necessary strategies to address other mitigation strategies including vaccination.

Testing Multiple Behavioral Science Strategies to Increase Flu-Shot Rates

This research aims to identify which behavioral science strategies are most effective at increasing flu vaccination rates overall and based on patients' individual characteristics. Past behavioral science interventions have shown promise in increasing flu vaccinations. For example, successful interventions have encouraged people to make concrete plans for when they will get a flu vaccination (Milkman et al. 2011), sent automated calls or text messages reminding patients to get a flu vaccination (Cutrona et al. 2018; Regan et al. 2017), or provided financial incentives for getting vaccinated (Nowalk et al. 2010). Although these results are promising, these studies have been conducted in isolation on different populations, which makes it difficult to compare their interventions' effectiveness or to have enough power to reliably detect differing responses to interventions based on individual characteristics. This research will simultaneously test 19 different SMS interventions to increase flu vaccinations in a "mega-study" and apply machine learning to identify which interventions work best for whom. The interventions are designed by behavioral science experts from the Behavior Change for Good Initiative (BCFG), Penn Medicine Nudge Unit (PMNU), and Geisinger Behavioral Insights Team (BIT). We expect to include at least 80,000 participants. The specific aims of this research are to identify (1) which behavioral science strategies effectively increase flu vaccination rates overall, and (2) which strategies are most effective for different subgroups (e.g., based on age, gender, race).

The purpose of this study is to investigate the clinical correlates of the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on patients with Functional movement disorder (FMD) and Parkinson s Disease (PD). Primary objectives: To evaluate the change in neurological symptoms domain of the survey between pre and post-COVID 19 in FMD and PD patients. Secondary objectives: - To evaluate the change in total score of the survey between pre and post COVID 19 in FMD and PD patients - To evaluate the change in other symptom domains of the survey between pre and post COVID 19 in FMD and PD patients. Domains include: Mood/Energy, sleep, symptoms of abnormal movements related or unrelated to primary disease, physical health and exercise related change Exploratory objectives: - To evaluate whether there is a modifying effect of disease group in the changes in total score or symptom domains - To evaluate whether there is a relationship between disease severity and changes in total score or symptom domains - To evaluate whether there is a correlation between changes across symptom domains - To evaluate whether there is a correlation in raw score across symptom domains within each period Research Methods: Data will be solely collected through the use of online instruments via CiSTAR as a designed questionnaire. Questionnaire items A questionnaire aimed at determining the effects of the COVID 19 pandemic and subsequent isolation on functional state of patients with FMD and PD. The questionnaire items include: Items investigating Mood/Energy before and after COVID 19 out break Items investigating Sleep habits before and after COVID 19 out break Items investigating Neurological symptoms before and after COVID 19 out break Items investigating daily functioning before and after COVID 19 out break Items investigating Exercise habits before and after COVID 19 out break No questionnaire items will be actionable , which are items that would identify an imminent risk for participant safety requiring urgent and immediate medical or psychiatric

Testing an Online Insomnia Intervention

The objective of this trial is to determine the effectiveness of an electronic cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (e-CBT-I) module in improving sleep and reducing alcohol use among heavy drinkers with insomnia. Specifically, it will test the effectiveness of Sleep Healthy Using the Internet (SHUTi), a well-validated version of e-CBT-I comprised of 6 weekly educational modules and daily sleep diaries. The rationale for this mixed methods proposal is that effective, nonpharmacologic treatments are necessary to stem the highly comorbid public health problems of alcohol use disorder (AUD) and insomnia. If successful, SHUTi will represent a novel and easily accessible intervention for reducing alcohol intake among high-risk heavy drinkers.

An Observational Study of Neurologic Function After COVID-19 Infection

Background: COVID-19 is an infection caused by a coronavirus. It can affect different parts of the body. For most people, it causes fevers or trouble breathing. Some people can have symptoms long after they recover. Researchers want to learn if there are signs of changes in the nervous system that may be related to COVID-19. Objective: To test the nervous system (the brain and nerves) in people who have had COVID-19 yet still have certain symptoms even after recovering. Eligibility: People age 18 and older who had COVID-19 and still have neurologic symptoms after they recovered from the initial infection. Design: Participants will be screened with a medical record review. Participants will have a neurological exam. They will complete pen-and-paper tests of their memory and thinking. They will complete a smell test with 'scratch-and-sniff' booklets. They will give blood samples. Participants will have magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain. Soft padding or a coil will be placed around their head. They will lie on a table that slides in and out of the MRI scanner. They will get a contrast dye through an intravenous (IV) catheter. Participants blood pressure, blood flow, skin temperature, sweating, and breathing will be monitored. Participants will have an electrocardiogram to measure heart function. Participants will blow into a mouthpiece for several seconds. Participants will lie on a table that has a motor. The motor tilts the table. Participants will have blood drawn through an IV as the table tilts. Participants will have a lumbar puncture. A small needle will be inserted into the spinal canal to obtain fluid. Participants may repeat some tests 8 weeks to 1 year later.
