Avelumab With Chemoradiation for Stage II/III Resectable Esophageal and Gastroesophageal Cancer

This is a 2 part Phase I/II clinical trial evaluating the safety, tolerability and efficacy of avelumab in combination with chemoradiation in patients with resectable esophageal and gastroesophageal cancer. Part 1: This is the run-in phase of the trial. This portion will determine the safety and tolerability of avelumab in combination with chemoradiotherapy in 6 patients. The proposed combination will be considered as safe if dose limiting toxicities are observed in at most 1 patient. Part 2: This is a Phase 2 portion of the trial, which will evaluate the efficacy of the proposed treatment regimen in patients with stage II/III resectable esophageal and gastroesophageal cancer

Project BIPAMS: Behavioral Intervention for Physical Activity in Multiple Sclerosis

This randomized controlled trial will examine the effect of a 6-month behavioral intervention, based on social cognitive theory and delivered through the Internet, for increasing physical activity and secondarily improving mobility, cognition, symptoms and quality of life in persons with MS. The investigators hypothesize that individuals who receive the 6-month behavioral intervention will demonstrate an increase in physical activity behavior that will last throughout a 6-month follow up compared with participants in the control condition. The investigators further hypothesize that individuals in the behavioral intervention will demonstrate better walking mobility and cognitive function, reduced fatigue, depression, anxiety, and pain, and improved quality of life compared to the control condition. The investigators hypothesize that the behavioral intervention will increase physical activity through positive changes in self-efficacy, outcome expectations, goal setting, and impediments as social-cognitive determinants.

Helping Chicago's Westside Adults Breathe and Thrive

Adults with asthma living in Chicago's West and Southwest side who completed the home-based Community Health Worker (CHW) intervention called Helping Chicago's Westside Adults Breathe and Thrive (HCWABT I) after October 2015 were eligible to participate in a randomized control trial called HCWABT II, which will evaluate the long-term impact of the intervention on their asthma control, asthma severity, healthcare use, and asthma-related quality of life. Participants are randomly assigned to an intervention arm, where they continue to receive occasional (monthly or bimonthly) contact from the CHW who served them during HCWABT I. or a control arm, where they no longer receive contact from the CHW. Members of both groups receive monthly data collection calls from a Research Assistant. We hypothesize that participants in the control arm will experience sustained improvements in asthma outcomes as compared to their pre-HCWABT I levels and that participants in the CHW intervention arm will continue to improve in asthma control severity, quality of life, and healthcare use.
