There are about 15072 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Turkey. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
Hypotension after spinal anesthesia is associated with significant perioperative morbidity and mortality, especially in hypovolemic patients. Ultrasonographic measurement of internal jugular vein (IJV) has been recently shown as effective in predicting the intravascular volume status. The aim was to investigate the reliability of preanesthetic ultrasound measurements of IJV in predicting hypotension after spinal anesthesia.
Aim: To evaluate the effects of information-motivation-behavioral skills model interventions given by nurses during home visits on the knowledge levels, personal and social motivation levels, behavioral skills, and HbA1C levels of adolescents with poor glycemic control. Design: Randomized controlled study. Methods: 50 adolescents with type 1 diabetes were equally divided into study and control groups. Socio-Demographic Form, Diabetes Information Evaluation Form, The Child Attitude Toward Illness Scale, The Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, and Diabetes Management Self-Efficacy Scale were utilized in data collection. The scales were administered at the beginning of the study and six months later. HbA1c levels of adolescents were evaluated in the third and sixth months. Multiple home visits and phone calls were made to each participant in the intervention group. Interventions to improve the information-motivation-behavioral skills model-based knowledge, personal and social motivation, and behavioral skills were applied during the home visits.
Increased risk of osteoarthritis (OA) has been previously demonstrated in patients with lower limb amputation. Although there are many studies on knee joint of intact limb of amputees in the literature, the number of studies on intact foot and ankle is extremely limited. The primary aim of the study is to compare the intact talar cartilage, tibialis anterior and gastrocnemius muscle thickness measurements of traumatic unilateral transtibial amputee patients with that of healthy individuals using ultrasound. The secondary aim is to investigate the relationship between cartilage and muscle thickness measurements with clinical parameters.
Background: Palliative care services can be applied in chronic, life-threatening conditions such as cancer, and provide physical, mental and psychological support to patients worldwide. Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the effect of music on pain, anxiety, comfort and functional capacity of cancer patients received care in a palliative care unit. Methods: The population of this randomized controlled trial consisted of cancer patients hospitalized in the Palliative Care Service of a Training and Research Hospital between July 2018-July 2019. The sample of the study included 60 patients (30 interventions/30 controls) who met the inclusion criteria. The patients in the intervention group were given a total of six music sessions, ten minutes each with the Turkish classical music in maqams (modes) of their choice (Hejaz or Rast accompanied by an expert tambour (drum) player).
Aim: This study aims to assess the effect of root canal disinfection with a 980 µm diode laser following chemomechanical root canal preparation on the severity of pain after root canal treatment (RCT). Materials and Methods: In present study, asymptomatic, single-rooted teeth with periapical index (PAI) score 3 or 4 were included. All patients were treated with two visits of root canal treatment including dressing with calcium hydroxide. Patients were randomly divided into two groups (n: 28). 'Control (no laser)': The final irrigation was performed using 5ml 2.5% NaOCI, followed by 5 ml 17% EDTA and 5 ml distilled water. 'Laser Disinfection (LD)': Root canals were irradiated with 980 µm diode laser after final irrigation at both visits. The pain levels were evaluated using visual analog scale (VAS) after 8, 24, 48 hours and 7 days. In addition, analgesic intake and time intervals were recorded by patients. The collected data were statistically analyzed with the Chi-square and Mann-Whitney U test (p<0.05).
Aims and Objectives: The purpose of this study is to compare whether or not there is a difference between venous and capillary blood samples in blood glucose measurements and investigate the effects of different aseptic methods used in skin cleaning before collecting blood samples on measurement results. Background: Capillary blood glucose measurement is a frequently used measurement method in both clinical environments and the home environment. However, several different aseptic techniques are used in collecting blood samples for glucose measurement. Design and Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study that was conducted with 109 patients who visited the blood collection unit of a University Hospital located in Western Turkey for 75 gr OGTT between November 2017 and April 2018. The capillary first and second blood drop values taken from the patients after fasting and at two hours following OGTT and capillary and venous blood glucose values were compared.
Hand and upper extremity injuries are among the most common causes of admission of children to the emergency department since they are the most frequently injured part of body following head in pediatric and adolescent population. Although upper extremity fractures and contusions are the main reasons of pediatric hand injuries, tendon injuries are not also uncommon. There are limited data in the literature about the long-term results of children with flexor tendon injury. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the long-term functional outcomes of children with flexor tendon injury.
RA is a chronic, autoimmune, inflammatory disease that involves small joints in the form of symmetrical polyarthritis and progresses with exacerbations and remissions. Pain, swelling, tenderness and morning stiffness are typical of the joints involved. Although it is approached as a primary joint disease, a wide variety of extra-articular involvements may also occur. In this cross sectional study sedimentation rate (ESR), C- Reactive protein (CRP), Tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, soluble-TNF-α receptor (TNF-R), Interleukin (IL)-1B and IL-10 were measured in three groups which were healthy volunteers, patients with RA in active period, and patients with RA in remission. TNF-R can be the main pathophysiological factor and a marker showing activation. TNF-R can be very important in revealing the effect of TNF on the disease and the value of this effect in the treatment and ensuring the follow-up of the disease with CRP instead of ESR in activation.
Background and Aims: Music therapy has a wide range of uses in health care practice. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of intraoperative music played during spinal anesthesia operation on the patients' intraoperative vital signs, postoperative pain, and anxiety status. Methods: The study was performed in an operating room with a total of 90 patients, of whom 30 were in the music group, 30 were in the control group and 30 were in the sedated group. The ethics committee's approval, institutional permission, and the study participants' written informed consent were obtained. Data were collected using patient information and intraoperative observation form for vital signs as well as through the Visual Analog Scale and State Anxiety Scale. Preoperative and postoperative anxiety, the intraoperative and postoperative vital signs and postoperative pain and anxiety of all groups were analyzed.
The term axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) describes a group of chronic inflammatory diseases that characterized with spinal involvement. AxSpA is one of the most common rheumatic diseases and chronic pain and morning stiffness are the main complaints of these patients. Central sensitization is defined as increased response to normal or sub-threshold stimuli of central nervous system and its close relationship with many rheumatological diseases has been demonstrated in several studies. Pain in axSpA patients is generally considered as a result of increased inflammatory burden and structural changes, However, failure to adequate analgesia in every patient whose inflammation is suppressed with anti-inflammatory treatment suggests new pain mechanisms. Central sensitization (CS) is one of these mechanisms and its recognition is only possible by detailed evaluation of the patient. There is no method for the diagnosis of central sensitization is accepted as a gold standard. clinical scales and quantitative sensory testing (QST) widely is used for this purpose widely. The most commonly used QST types include pressure pain threshold (PPT), temporal summation (TS) and conditioned pain modulation (CPM). The well-known scale used for the evaluation of central sensitization is the Central Sensitization Inventory , developed by Mayer et.al in 2011 for detect central sensitization in chronic pain patients. The aim of this study is to evaluate the frequency of central sensitization (CS) in patients with axSpA by means of clinical scales and quantitative sensory testing (QST), to examine related comorbidities and the parameters associated with the development of sensitization in these patients.
