Observational Study Evaluating the Prevalence of Enzyme Deficiency in Pulmonology Clinics (ADA)

This observational study was designed as a prospective epidemiological screening study. Patients who applied to the centers participating in the study, bronchiectasis was detected on at least one computed tomography of the lungs; Immunoglobulin E height and/or were found to be lymphopenic on at least one examination will be included in the study. Up-to-date data will be collected from patients who have agreed to participate in the study, and a blood sample with DBS will be taken from patients. The blood taken will be subjected to analysis for ADA metabolites. For patients with a high metabolic test, the responsible researcher will advise on clarifying the diagnosis with a genetic test other than the study. In case of formation of new information for each patient, consultation will be provided by the responsible researcher. Thus, the prevalence of ADA enzyme deficiency disease in patients with bronchiectasis, Immunoglobulin E elevation and/or lymphopenia will be evaluated. In addition, with this study, it will be scientifically demonstrated whether lymphopenia and/or Immunoglobulin E height is a parameter that facilitates the early diagnosis of patients with late-onset ADA enzyme deficiency.

In the literature, the results of vestibular rehabilitation treatment applied in patients with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) have been investigated in detail under the headings such as fatigue, physical activity level, and quality of life, and its effects on walking have also been tried to be examined. However, in the studies conducted, gait assessments were made through questionnaires and timed tests, and devices that provide more objective data such as 3-dimensional gait analysis were not used. Again, the effects of vestibular rehabilitation programs on dual-task were not examined in previous studies. Therefore, the aims of our study are: 1. To determine the effect of individually designed vestibular rehabilitation exercises on the kinetic and kinematic components of walking; 2. To determine the effect of vestibular rehabilitation exercises specially designed for the person on gait parameters during cognitive and motor tasks.

Pes planus is a postural deformity seen with decreased medial longitudinal arch (MLA) height and this causes intense stress on the plantar fascia. Pes planus may affect individuals' activities of daily living, their productivity in occupational environments, and the risk of injury and performance in sports; It has also been reported that it may cause different musculoskeletal diseases such as plantar fasciitis, medial tibial stress syndrome, patellofemoral disorders and back pain in the future. Many clinical methods are used as a treatment for pes planus and most treatments involve supporting an overstretched plantar fascia and weakened MLA. The aim of the study is to investigate the immediate effects of kinesio taping and manual release on lower extremity performance in young adults with pes planus.

The Effectiveness and Change Mechanisms of Mentalization Based Therapy for Children (MBT-C)

The main aim of the project is to investigate the effectiveness and change mechanisms of Mentalization Based Therapy for Children (MBT-C; Midgley et al., 2017). MBT-C is a transdiagnostic treatment for children aged between 5 to 12 years old with the main aim of increasing mentalization and restoring epistemic trust. Parallel parental work takes place to increase parental mentalization. This project will test the effectiveness of MBT-C in a parallel group single blind pragmatic Randomized Controlled Trial (pRCT) conducted in Turkey in comparison to a parenting and social skills group. The sample will include 240 children between 5-12 years old with internalizing and externalizing and comorbid internalizing/externalizing problems and their parents. During the study, the patients will be randomized to two arms, and the treatment's effectiveness will be investigated both at short (8th and 12th weeks) and long terms (24th and 36th week) to also assess relapse prevention. Thelarge sample size and the longitudinal evaluation of primary (decrease in problems), and secondary outcomes will enable the investigation of mediators and moderators. This project will also undertake a rigorous psychotherapy process study within the RCT, examining for the first time, for which children and under what circumstances MBT-C may be most effective, meaningfully linking process with outcome. For this purpose, patients' baseline characteristics, especially attachment security and mentalization deficits that may interact with treatment outcome (moderators) and different dimensions of mentalization that develop over the course of the treatment (change mechanisms/mediators) will be assessed.

The Effect of Paula Method Exercises on Post-cesarean Section Distension

Aim:To examine the effect of "Paula Method Exercises" after cesarean section on the prevention of postoperative distention and pain due to distension. Method: The study was planned as a double-blind, randomized controlled experimental study. The study was carried out between November 2021 and February 2022 with women who had undergone cesarean section at Akdeniz University Hospital Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic and agreed to participate in the study. The number of individuals to be sampled from the population was determined by the G Power analysis and 80 women were included in the sample. The data of the study were collected using the Introductory Information Form, the Postoperative Follow-up Form, and the McGill Pain Scale Form. The women in the intervention group were given training on how to do the Paula Method Exercises in the postoperative period in line with the "Paula Method Exercises Training Plan" by the researcher. Conclusion: It is predicted that the findings obtained from the data of the study will guide nursing care practices and new researches for the relief of gas and distension after cesarean section.

Pulmonary and Extrapulmonary Impacts of COVID-19 on Young Adults

When the literature search is conducted, it is seen that there are many studies examining the effects of COVID-19 disease on individuals in various disease groups (MS, stroke, Parkinson, COPD, asthma, etc.) and age groups (adult, geriatric, etc.). However, it has been determined that there is no study examining the impacts of this disease on functional capacity, physical activity, pulmonary function, emotional state, sleep, and quality of life in healthy young adults. This study will reveal whether COVID-19 disease causes an effect on the mentioned parameters in young adults. The aim of recent study is to investigate functional capacity, respiration, pain, depression, sleep and quality of life in young adults post COVID-19. For this purpose, participants' upper extremity and lower extremity muscle strength, 6-minute walking distance, O2 saturation, posture evaluation, spirometric evaluation, pain threshold, pain intensity, dyspnea, and leg fatigue measurements will be recorded. In addition to these measurements, general fatigue, quality of life, depression, physical activity level, sleep quality parameters will be evaluated and the data obtained will be analyzed with appropriate statistical methods. The goals of recent work, - To determine whether COVID-19 disease causes a decrease in functional capacity and changes in respiratory parameters in young adults, as well as to determine whether there are effects such as pain, depression, decreased sleep and quality of life, - To determine whether there are significant changes in the values of the relevant outcome measurements in all the mentioned parameters, - As a result of these, to determine the effects of COVID-19 disease on these parameters in young adults with objective, measurable data and to guide researchers and clinicians who do/will conduct studies on the subject.

Investigation of Muscular Activation Levels Around the Scapula and Shoulder in Exercises Which Body Weight is Carried

Closed kinetic chain (CKC) exercises are exercises in which body weight is carried on the distal segment. It is considered advantageous and reliable in many respects compared to open kinetic chain exercises (OKC). For the restoration of functional stability in shoulder rehabilitation, it is recommended to use CKC exercises that carry body weight from the early period. Plank exercise, which is frequently used to strengthen the core area in rehabilitation programs, is performed by transferring weight on the upper extremity. For this reason, it is thought that this exercise will provide an isometric load on the shoulder and scapula muscles. In many previous studies, it has been observed that scapular muscle activations also change with the changes in stability (support surface properties, etc.) in plank exercises and variations in a way that provides a more stable exercise environment. However, as the difficulty level of the used moving floor increased (using softer or unstable surfaces), it was seen that the increase in muscle activation levels was more in favor of the upper trapezius muscle (UT). In a study, it was observed that the UT / Middle Trapeze (MT), UT / Lower Trapezius (LT), UT / Serratus Anterior (SA) ratios were lower in the 3-point supported plank exercise performed on one hand. For this reason, it is thought that while the difficulty level of plank variations is increased in shoulder rehabilitation, body position changes will be more effective in maintaining optimal scapular muscle activation rates instead of using a moving floor. Based on this information, investigating the muscular activation levels for the scapular and shoulder girdle muscles during different variations of the plank exercise in terms of load levels in the targeted muscles will provide valuable information for the management of shoulder exercise programs and post-operative rehabilitation. It was planned to include 21 healthy physically active individuals between the ages of 18-45 in the study. Muscle activation levels during maximum voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) of each muscle will be recorded to normalize muscle activation levels during plank variations. Muscle activation levels will be evaluated with a surface electromyography device (Noraxon, Myomotion, USA).
