Major Pelvic Hemorrhage in Complex Surgery

Hemorrhage is a challenging complication of pelvic surgery. In this study, the investigators aimed to analyze the causes, management, and outcomes of major pelvic hemorrhage in patients undergoing complex abdomino-pelvic surgery. Participants who had a major intraoperative pelvic hemorrhage during complex abdomino-pelvic surgery at 11 tertiary referral centers were included. Participant characteristics, causes of hemorrhage, management strategies, and outcomes including morbidity and mortality analyses were evaluated.

Comparing the Effects of Foot Core Exercises

The purpose of the study was to compare the effects of towel curl exercises and short foot exercises on pedobarographic parameters and balance. 91 healthy students (63 females, 28 males) with mean age of 20,65±2,41 years who attend to Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, Faculty of Health Sciences and met the inclusion criteria and volunteered to participate included in this randomized controlled study. Participants were randomly divided into, Short Foot Exercise(n=28), Towel Curl Exercise (n=31) and Control Groups (n=32). Participant's demographic information were recorded, foot number measurement, navicular drop test, metatarsal width measurement, static and dynamic pedobarographic evaluations, and the balance evaluation were performed. Following the initial assessment, participants who included in Short Foot and Towel Curl Exercise Group performed the exercises that they were assigned to under the supervision of a physiotherapist for 4 weeks and no exercise was given to the control group. After the completion of 4 weeks all the initial assessments were repeated in all groups.

First Trimester Fetal Thymus Volume May Predict Preeclampsia

The exact etiology of preeclampsia remains unclear but is known to involve immunological factors. The thymus is one of the main organs involved in the development of the fetal immune system. The aim of this study was to explore the association between fetal thymus volume on ultrasound and preeclampsia by adding the 3-dimensional measurement of thymus volume to the routine fetal ultrasound scan at 11-14 week of gestation. Investigators performed a prospective clinical study in 100 pregnant women in their first trimester of pregnancy who attended the Fetal Medicine Unit of the Medicine Faculty of Karadeniz Technical University during the study period. Maternal age, gravida, para, BMI, blood pressure, gestational age, CRL and fetal timus volume measured with VOCAL programme are recorded. For all patients routine clinical and ultrasound examinations were performed during pregnancy. Gestational age at birth, way of birth and newborn birthweight were recorded. The results were statistically compared in the SPSS 13.0 program. Student-t test and chi-square test were used for statistical analysis. ROC curve analysis was used for limit values. The data of patients with preeclampsia and without preeclampsia were compared. The ability of the thymus volume to predict the preeclampsia was tested using binary logistic regression analysis. P value <0.05 was considered statistically significant.

Placenta previa cases are one of the difficult groups of patients to manage in modern obstetrics. When the literature is evaluated extensively, no clear information can be seen especially in terms of hospitalization time. Inpatient follow-up of this patients has negative effects like hospital infections in terms of the patient, workload in terms of health personnel and financial losses in terms of the country's economy. Placenta previa cases are complicated patients in which generalizations cannot be easily performed and they should be monitored at third level hospitals. In addition, care should be personalized considering the many reasons. In this study, placenta previa cases will be followed up at 28th gestational week and evaluated at 32nd week by vaginal ultrasonography and MRI and this follow-up will continue until delivery. Thus, in this study, it was aimed to determine the parameters that would allow systematic personalization of health service in this particular patient group by making risk assessment of placenta previa cases.

The Effect of Kinesio Taping Tension on the Pain Threshold and Tolerance

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of kinesiotape technique applied in different tensions on pain tolerance (PT) of healthy university students. 100 healthy and volunteer male individuals studying at Mugla Sitki Kocman University Faculty of Health Sciences will participate in the research. Study protocol was approved by the ethics committee of Mugla Sitki Kocman University. The study is designed as a randomized, controlled, double-blind study to be performed on 4 groups consisting of 25 individuals in each group (No tension(Placebo), and 50%, 75%, 100% tensions of Kinesiotape). Kinesiotape will be applied over lateral epicondyle of the dominant extremities with diamond shape technique by a KTAI®certified physiotherapist. PT's will be measured with J-Tech algometer before, immediately and 30 minutes after taping by a different physiotherapist who will be blind to taping tension.

Rectus Femoris Thickness Measurement in Unilateral Transtibial Amputated Prosthesis Users

Knee extension strengthening is one of the cornerstones of rehabilitation in prosthesis users with transtibial amputation. It is recommended in terms of increasing functional mobility, preventing the risk of fall and knee osteoarthritis. Therefore, there is a need for objective measurements to evaluate changes in functional strength and walking through the rehabilitation process. Muscle thickness measured by ultrasound was found to be valid and highly correlated with magnetic resonance imaging and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry measurements and shown to reflect the strength and functional outcomes in various diseases. The first aim of this study is to reveal the rectus femoris muscle thickness alteration in prosthesis users with transtibial amputation compared to able-bodied controls and establish its correlation with functional strength and walking tests. The second aim is to determine intra- and inter-rater reliability and construct validity of the rectus femoris muscle thickness measured by ultrasound in prosthesis users with transtibial amputation.
