There are about 3491 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Singapore. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
Clinical outcomes after surgical resection in HCC is a continuum and is clearly related to tumor burden but needs better definition. The researchers describe the use of the "metro ticket" approach to analyze surgical outcomes over the whole spectrum of anatomically resectable HCC to define overall survival including intermediate stage tumors (BCLC B). The analysis the researchers provide in this study enables the clinician to select the optimal surgical resection candidate based on robust long term survival data. In addition, study compares outcome for open surgery vs laparoscopic surgery, survival outcome for viral and non-viral HCC using Albumin-Bilirubin (ALBI) for more comprehensive study result.
Adults with serious mental illnesses (such as schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorders) often experience a range of cognitive difficulties (such as memory, problem solving difficulties) that affect their ability to lead meaningful life roles. Cognitive remediation is an intervention to address cognitive difficulties in this group of mental health service users. Its implementation in less well-resourced community-based settings is less well-studied. Therefore, the aims of the study are: - To investigate the effects of cognitive remediation on various cognitive skills (such as attention, memory, problem-solving, facial expression recognition, taking others' perspectives etc), for participants with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorders in community mental health settings. - To investigate if factors such as participants' motivation for engagement and social interaction can affect changes in cognitive skills and functional ability. Participants in the treatment group will attend computer-based cognitive exercises to improve their cognitive skills. They will also participate in group sessions facilitated by therapists to learn how to utilize strategies learned from the computer sessions in their daily lives. Participants in the control group will attend the usual rehabilitation activities in their respective community-based psychiatric rehabilitation centers. This research study will compare the differences in their cognitive performance, functional ability and recovery immediately after the intervention and 8 weeks later.
Swift and decisive actions on the part of healthcare and hospital authorities are required to effectively contain the current COVID-19 pandemic. These measures firstly allow personnel and facilities leeway to provide surge capabilities to meet anticipated increased demands on the healthcare service. In addition, by deferring none urgent hospital visits, admissions and investigations, such measures support social distancing and aid attempts to control disease transmission. Deferring perceived non-urgent patient services may however lead to unintended delayed diagnoses and exacerbation of current patient conditions and lead to increased emergency admissions and surgeries. A policy decision was made that essential surgical services pertaining to cancer and urgent cardiovascular surgery were allowed but that surgeons had the option to postpone what is assessed to be less urgent cases. Increasingly patients also postpone their surgeries or visits because of anxieties over the developing situation. Elective surgical services at the Outram Campus were thus significantly reduced from January 2020 as part of the measures to contain the COVID-19 outbreak. The surgical philosophy during this period was that a judicious policy that allowed surgeons to proceed with surgery deemed critical but to postpone those deemed less so will at the system level, avoid poor outcomes for patients who required surgery and yet successfully re-allocate resources required to address the unfolding pandemic.
Aim To determine the feasibility and safety of 3 fractions of high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy with interstitial needles for cervical cancer in the outpatient setting Primary objective To determine the clinical outcome (2-yr local control rate, loco-regional control rate, progression free survival and overall survival) Secondary objective To determine the long-term toxicities of this regimen based on CTCAE v5
The goal of the randomized controlled trials is to learn about the effects of urban farming interventions on older adults' physical, mental, and social well-being of older adults aged 50 and above. The main questions the study aims to answer are Q1. Would participants who have undergone the urban care farming intervention have lower stress levels compared to those who did not undergo the intervention? Q2. Would the quality of life and biopsychosocial factors of older adults who participate in the urban farming interventions be better before the intervention and compared to those who did not participate? Q3. Would running intervention programs as such demonstrate cost-effectiveness? Participants will be enrolled in 24 weekly lessons providing hands-on urban farming techniques, including physical activity, planting, and social interactions. Researchers will compare older participants with similar demographic profile to determine if the biological, psychological, and social factors are better for the intervention group.
Tooth loss is a major chronic problem in dentistry and edentulous elderly endures poorer quality of life worldwide. Removable partial dentures (RPDs) are the most widely accepted and cost-effective treatment for patients to restore oral functions. RPDs contain three components including the metal framework, denture base and acrylic teeth. Conventionally, RPD fabrication involves tedious clinical and dental laboratory procedures and is time consuming, labour-intensive, and often imprecise, therefore incapable of meeting the growing demands of RPD by an ageing population. The challenges to achieve a high quality and high-throughput RPD service lie in three aspects: 1) accuracy in capturing oral profile; 2) immediate oral information analysis and device design, and 3) automation in production.
The Singapore Youth Shoulder Overuse Injury Prevention Program (YoSO-IPP) includes an exercise segment and an education segment. This study will (1) assess the effects of the exercise segment, and (2) assess the effects of the education segment among youth volleyball athletes using a randomized controlled trial over 12 weeks. Performance outcome measures of shoulder eccentric external rotation strength, shoulder internal rotation range of motion, and thoracic rotation range of motion will be used to assess the effects of the exercise segment. Knowledge scores via an online questionnaire will be used to assess the effects of the education segment. Hypothesis: The YoSO-IPP will have an effect on shoulder eccentric external rotation strength, shoulder internal rotation range of motion, and thoracic rotation range of motion and on knowledge scores.
To investigate the clinical efficacy of community-based early stage knee replacement rehabilitation program as compared with usual care in acute hospital outpatient clinic
The purpose of this pilot clinical trial is to confirm the efficacy and safety of Nexpowder™ for hemostasis in pilot cohort of patients with NVUGIB in Singapore
