IMS-treatment and Canalis Carpi Syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition in which the median nerve is compressed at the wrist, leading to paresthesias, numbness and muscle weakness in the hand. Treatment of the condition often involves surgery. In this study we wish to se if there is an effect of using intramuscular stimulation (IMS) to release the tension of nervus medianus in the lower arm. The study will be performed by randomization to IMS of musculus pronator teres or a control ("Scam IMS treatment" to the acupuncture point Li11). The two insertion points are approximately 1cm apart in the lower arm.

HLA-DQ2-gliadin Tetramer for Diagnosis of Celiac Disease

The investigators will evaluate the use of an HLA-DQ2-gliadin tetramer for staining of gluten specific T cells in the diagnostics of uncertain celiac disease. Some patients have started on a gluten free diet without a diagnosis of celiac disease. Subsequent later investigation in special care is difficult as the patients often are reluctant to prolonged gluten challenge. The investigators use the HLA-DQ2-gliadin tetramers for detection of gluten specific T cells after a short gluten challenge. By this method the investigators search to discriminate between true celiac disease and clinical gluten intolerance without celiac disease, in a population of HLA-DQ2+ persons already on a gluten free diet without a formal diagnosis of celiac disease.

The objectives in this study are 1. to explore the incidence and cumulative prevalence of pelvic girdle pain (PGP) and its subgroups in a prospective longitudinal study during pregnancy, from 18 weeks until 6 weeks after delivery. 2. to examine the outcome of chiropractic management for a dominating one-sided PGP subgroup of pregnant women in a single-blinded controlled study, and to use efficacy measures that include pain, functional impairment, and sick-leave frequency. 3. to investigate possible predictors for treatment outcome in one-sided PGP in pregnant women.

Efficacy Study of the Octapolar Lead in Patients With Failed Back Surgery Syndrome (FBSS) With Chronic Pain

Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) has been used for over 40 years to treat neuropathic pain. Various clinical studies have shown a beneficial effect of SCS on pain in patients with Failed Back Surgery Syndrome (FBSS). Since more than 2 years the 8-contact points Octad lead has been used and replaced the 4-contact points Quad lead. Even though it seems that eight electrodes has potential advantage over the four electrodes in case of lead migration or disease progress, no clinical data have been published on the effectiveness of SCS using the octopolar epidural lead. The Octad study intents to assess the effectiveness and technical performance of SCS with the Octad® lead for treatment of chronic pain. This study is not set up as a comparison study between the Octad lead and other SCS leads, such as the Quad lead, because the Octad lead is used in most eligible FBSS patients as the standard of care lead. The study intends to: 1. evaluate the effectiveness of SCS with the Octad® lead on chronic pain in Failed Back Surgery Syndrome patients after 12 months of treatment. 2. collect safety data for SCS with the Octad® lead in patients with refractory chronic pain.

One of the main side-effects of tacrolimus in solid organ transplanted patients is post transplant diabetes mellitus (PTDM). It is not known if different pharmacokinetic properties influence the risk of developing PTDM. It is possible that it either is high peak concentrations of high overall systemic exponation that is responsible for the effect on insulin secretion. With the new slow-release formulation of tacrolimus (Advagraf) a different pharmacokinetic profile is introduced to patients and it is of interest to investigate if this affects insulin secretion and insulin sensitivity of patients. Hypothesis: The pharmacokinetic profile of tacrolimus affects the insulin secretion in renal transplant recipients.

Atherosclerotic coronary heart disease is a condition thought to involve low-grade inflammation. Several reports, clinical and epidemiological, have demonstrated that intake of fish oil may be beneficial in attenuating the inflammatory process. Still, however, there are lacking data in respect to whether differences in composition of various marine oils may influence the inflammatory status differently. The hypothesis of the current study is that extract from the antarctic krill (Euphausia superba) is better than traditional fish oils when compared head-to-head with balanced composition of omega 3 content on inflammatory status.
