Mental Health and Cognitive Dysfunction: A Multicenter Study at Pediatric Rehabilitation Clinics in North Norway

Patients referred to pediatric rehabilitation services have often cognitive deficits/intellectual disabilities.Neurocognitive assessment is, hence, important when designing treatment plans. Children and adolescents with cognitive deficits and intellectual disabilities (ID) have a high risk of developing mental health problems. There is lack of knowledge about such comorbid mental disorders in the health service. There are also few validated instruments for assessing mental disorders among children and adolescents with cognitive deficits and ID both in Norway and abroad. The main aims of the current multicentre study are to: Investigate psychometric properties of different psychiatric instruments for children and adolescents. Investigate change and stability of symptoms over time. Investigate user satisfaction. The study will include Pediatric Rehabilitation Services at hospitals in Tromsø, Hammerfest and Bodø and will include in total 320 patients aged 4 to 18. We will use information from parents, teachers and patients, in addition to clinician-rated measures. Patients will be assessed at intake and after six months. We have conducted a pilot study in the period from 2012 to 2013.

Delivery Method and Risk for Urogenital Prolapse 15-20 Years Later

The lifetime risk for a woman to undergo surgery for either vaginal prolapse or urinary incontinence is high. Previous studies have shown that pregnancy and childbirth are risk factors for developing prolapse. There is a lack of studies that follow women several years after delivery aiming to find whether symptoms of prolapse are linked to delivery method, ie vacuum, forceps, normal vaginal delivery and cesarean section. The investigators plan this study is to get more knowledge about pathology of prolapse and incontinence, to enable development of preventive strategies for these conditions. Aim of the study is to determine whether the prevalence of symptoms and performed surgery for urogenital prolapse differs among women delivered by vacuum, forceps, normal vaginal delivery and cesarean section 15-20 years after their first delivery. The investigators identify women that delivered their first child at St. Olavs Hospital, Trondheim, Norway between 1990-1997. Questionnaires will be sent to 2500 women (PFIQ-7, PFDI-20, PISQ-12), 600 of whom will get a clinical examination, where pelvic floor musculature is examined by palpation and 4D ultrasound, and a POP-Q quantification of prolapse performed.

Generation 100: Blood Volume and Cardiac Function in Healthy Aging

Hypothesis: Exercise will reduce morbidity and mortality rates in an elderly population. The extent of reduction will be intensity dependent. As part of the "Generation 100" study, this sub-study project will investigate the effect of exercise on blood volume, cardiopulmonary health and heart function in healthy aging. Objective is to determine the acute effect of one endurance training session on blood volume in healthy elderly. The working hypothesis is that one interval training session increases total blood volume by 10% in healthy elderly, and that there will be no change after moderate continuous training.

The aim of the study is to develop, carry out, evaluate and measure the effects of a new patient education program for patients with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)in primary healthcare. In an randomized controlled trial design the effects of the patient education program on coping, physical functioning, fatigue, pain, acceptance, anxiety, depression, quality of life, self- efficacy, and illness perception will be compared with treatment as usual. The results of the main project will lead to the elaboration of the final patient education program that can be implemented in primary health care, as well as development of a training program for future program-conductors.
