Combination Chemotherapy in Treating Children With Progressive Brain Tumors

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying two different combination chemotherapy regimens and comparing how well they work in treating children with low-grade astrocytomas or other residual tumors of the brain.

PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying early chemotherapy based on blood levels of CA 125 alone to see how well it works compared to chemotherapy based on conventional clinical indicators in patients with recurrent ovarian epithelial, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal cancer.

PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to compare the effectiveness of two regimens of cisplatin and fluorouracil combined with radiation therapy in preserving the larynx in patients who have resectable cancer of the hypopharynx or larynx.
