NCT ID: NCT04491357 Recruiting - Hypocalcemia Clinical Trials

Prophylactic Infusion of Calcium Gluconate Reducing the Rate of Hypocalcaemia After Total Thyroidectomy

Start date: June 1, 2020
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

Post-total thyroidectomy hypocalcaemia is a common complication with the rate ranging from 13-49% in a meta-analysis. However, the rate in UMMC in 2018 and 2019 were 40% and 23% respectively. It lead to prolonged hospital stay and patient dissatisfaction in the event of hypocalcaemia. Research question: Does prophylactic intravenous calcium infusion reduces the rate of post-total thyroidectomy hypocalcaemia? This study will conduct in UMMC endocrine surgery unit with the target population who scheduled for total thyroidectomy in UMMC between 1/6/2020-1/6/2022. After obtaining consent from participants, they will be randomised into intervention and placebo group with the ratio of 1:1. Intervention group will receive the intravenous calcium gluconate infusion and placebo group will receive saline infusion within 4 hour of skin closure. Both groups will have their serum calcium measure at 6,12,24,36,48-hour mark post surgery. Both groups will receive same oral calcium supplements.

NCT ID: NCT04490031 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Ketamine Adverse Reaction

Evaluation of Ketamine as Sedative Agent in Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)

Start date: March 1, 2020
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

This is a study evaluating the usage of Ketamine as sedative agent in ERCP. The usage of Ketamine will be compared to the standard sedation in our center, which is Midazolam in combination with Pethidine as analgesia.

NCT ID: NCT04475471 Recruiting - COVID-19 Clinical Trials

WORLD HEART FEDERATION (WHF) COVID-19 and Cardiovascular Disease Survey

WHF
Start date: September 1, 2020
Phase:
Study type: Observational

A global study for a better understanding of the cardiovascular conditions that increase the risk of developing severe COVID-19, and a better characterization of cardiovascular complications in hospitalized patients with COVID-19.

NCT ID: NCT04440137 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Dental Caries in Children

Effectiveness of Oral Health Promotion in Bottle Fed Children

Start date: January 1, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study will evaluate the effectiveness of oral health promotion in the prevention of ECC (early childhood caries) in bottle-fed children. Half of the patient will receive oral health promotion which emphasizing more on the benefit of stopping the bottle feeding habit, a free-flow cup and oral hygiene kit which include a toothbrush, toothpaste (1000ppm fluoride). The other half of the patient will receive standard of care oral hygiene promotion and oral hygiene kit which include a toothbrush, toothpaste (1000ppm fluoride)

NCT ID: NCT04436848 Recruiting - Parkinson Disease Clinical Trials

LRRK2 G2385R Leucocyte and Urine Biomarker Study

LRRK2 G2385R
Start date: June 1, 2020
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Given the emerging evidence on LRRK2-related biomarkers, this project will focus on identifying leucocyte and urine biomarkers that are altered by the LRRK2 G2385R variant, and investigating the effects of LRRK2 kinase inhibitor (MLi-2) on these biomarkers, using immunoblotting and mass spectrometry.

NCT ID: NCT04418739 Recruiting - Pancreatic Cancer Clinical Trials

Intravenous Human Albumin In Improving Pancreaticoduodenectomy Outcomes

Start date: January 27, 2020
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

Pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD), more commonly known as Whipple's surgery is the mainstay treatment for pancreatic head and periampullary cancer. Factors contributing to PD outcomes are broadly categorized to disease-related, patient-related and operative factors. Whereas an inexhaustible list of study exists on looking at reducing PD complication rates with respect to the above-mentioned factors, it was only recently that more attention has been given to the impact of perioperative and intraoperative fluid regimes on PD outcomes. This study takes interest in the impact of intraoperative fluid regimes on PD outcomes. The objective of this investigation is to compare the outcomes with the use of intraoperative intravenous human albumin versus standard intraoperative fluid regimes.

NCT ID: NCT04399265 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Spinocerebellar Ataxia Type 3

Efficacy Of Oral Trehalose In Spinocerebellar Ataxia 3

Start date: February 24, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study evaluates the effectiveness of oral trehalose in alleviating the neuropathological and motor behaviour deficits among patients with SCA3. A total of 40 participants with SCA3 will be recruited, with 20 participants to be administered with trehalose while another 20 participants to be administered with a maltose placebo.

NCT ID: NCT04385576 Recruiting - COVID-19 Clinical Trials

Taiwan "Aerosol Box" Versus UMMC "Intubation Box"

Start date: May 15, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study compares two intubation boxes, that is the Taiwan "Aerosol Box" versus the UMMC "Intubation Box". The importance of this intubation box has come to light recently in view of the COVID-19 pandemic and the fact that intubation is an aerosol-generating procedure. Risks of the healthcare worker attending to the airway of COVID-19 patients is high and the intubation box aims to minimize that and reduce contamination of the environment. The original design of the "Aerosol Box" has limitations and is not easily used by intubators. This study evaluates the clinical usefulness of an innovation of the "Aerosol Box" design that is made to be more ergonomic and increases the rate of successful intubation. Anaesthetists with more than 5 years of clinical experience in intubating airways as well as more than 20 successful intubations using videolaryngoscopy , will be available to participate. This study will employ manikin and will be a randomized cross-over trial, conducted in UM.

NCT ID: NCT04384042 Recruiting - COVID-19 Clinical Trials

Malaysian COVID-19 Anosmia Study (Phase 2) - A Nationwide Multicentre Case-Control Study

Start date: June 6, 2020
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The Malaysian COVID-19 Anosmia Study is a nationwide multicentre observational study to investigate the prevalence and characteristics of olfactory and gustatory/taste disturbances in COVID-19 infection in Malaysia, and to evaluate the predictive value of screening for these symptoms in COVID-19 infection.
