NCT ID: NCT00897221 Completed - Friedreich's Ataxia Clinical Trials

A Study Investigating the Long-term Safety and Efficacy of Deferiprone in Patients With Friedreich's Ataxia

Start date: June 2009
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the long-term safety and tolerability of deferiprone in subjects with Friedreich's ataxia (FRDA). The secondary objective is to evaluate the long-term efficacy of deferiprone for the treatment of FRDA. The tertiary objectives are to evaluate the effect of deferiprone on: 1. cardiac function, 2. quality of life, and 3. functional status.

NCT ID: NCT00897130 Completed - Clinical trials for Myelodysplastic Syndrome

5-Azacitidine in Low-risk Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDSs)

MDSAZA0706
Start date: August 2008
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

Azacitidine will be given at a dose of 75 mg/sqm (s.c) daily for 5 consecutive days every 28 days (every month) for a total of 8 courses to low risk MDSs according to IPSS scoring system. In fact, several studies produced high rates of trilineage responses, reduces the risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in high-risk MDS and improves the quality of life (QoL). The use of 5-Aza in the earlier phases of MDS could reduce the proliferative advantage of MDS clone and favour the regrowth of normal hematopoiesis.

NCT ID: NCT00896454 Completed - Breast Cancer Clinical Trials

Study of Denosumab in the Treatment of Hypercalcemia of Malignancy in Subjects With Elevated Serum Calcium

Start date: November 16, 2009
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to determine the potential of denosumab to treat Hypercalcemia of Malignancy in patients with elevated serum calcium who do not respond to recent treatment with intravenous bisphosphonates by lowering corrected serum calcium </= 11.5 mg/dL (2.9 millimoles /L) by day 10.

NCT ID: NCT00896129 Completed - Clinical trials for Chronic Myeloid Leukemia

Mid-to Long-Term Outcomes in Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) Patients With Complete Cytogenetic Response After Imatinib as First Line Therapy

Start date: March 2010
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

Rationale: At present, virtually no evidence exists regarding mid to long-term patient-reported health outcomes (e.g., health related quality of life-HRQOL) of CML patients treated with Imatinib. Purpose: the results of this research will provide preliminary evidence-based data on an number of issues from the patients' perspective, including adherence to therapy issues.

NCT ID: NCT00895713 Completed - Clinical trials for Hepatitis B, Chronic

Efficacy and Safety of Intramuscular HBIG Grifols for the Prevention of Recurrence After Liver Transplantation

Start date: November 2004
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to determine if treatment with intramuscular hepatitis B virus immune globulin Grifols, a new specific hepatitis B immune globulin, is effective and safe for the prevention of hepatitis B virus recurrence after orthotopic liver transplantation.

NCT ID: NCT00895583 Completed - Kidney Transplant Clinical Trials

Study Evaluating A Planned Transition From Tacrolimus To Sirolimus In Kidney Transplant Recipients

Start date: June 2009
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

This study will look at the effect on long-term kidney function using tacrolimus right after a transplant and then switching to sirolimus at 3 to 5 months after the transplant.

NCT ID: NCT00894868 Completed - Clinical trials for Congestive Heart Failure

Effect of Vildagliptin on Left Ventricular Function in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes and Congestive Heart Failure

Start date: May 2009
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

This study will assess the effect of vildagliptin on left ventricular function in patients with type 2 diabetes and congestive heart failure (NYHA Class I-III). Effect on HbA1c and overall safety and tolerability will also be assessed.

NCT ID: NCT00894725 Completed - Colon Cancer Clinical Trials

Laparoscopic Versus Open Left Colonic Resection

Start date: February 2000
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The main goal of this study is to clarify if laparoscopy (LPS) could become the standard approach in patients undergoing left colonic resection. 268 patient candidates to left colonic resection were randomly assigned to LPS (n=134) or open (n=134) approach. Postoperative care protocol was the same in both groups. Trained members of the surgical staff who were not involved in the study registered 30-day postoperative morbidity. Cost-benefit analysis was based on hospital costs. Long-term morbidity, quality of life, and 5-year survival have also been evaluated.

NCT ID: NCT00894387 Completed - Clinical trials for Congestive Heart Failure

Six Months Efficacy and Safety of Aliskiren Therapy on Top of Standard Therapy, on Morbidity and Mortality in Patients With Acute Decompensated Heart Failure

ASTRONAUT
Start date: May 2009
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

This study evaluated the effect of early initiation of aliskiren therapy, compared to standard therapy, in the reduction of cardiovascular death and heart failure re-hospitalization events within 6 months, in congestive heart failure (CHF) patients hospitalized for an episode of acute decompensated heart failure.

NCT ID: NCT00891046 Completed - Clinical trials for Systemic Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis

An Open-label Extension Study of Canakinumab in Patients With Systemic Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis and Active Systemic Manifestations Manifestations and Response Characterization Study in Canakinumab Treatment-naïve Patients With Active SJIA With and Without Fever.

ß-SPECIFIC 3
Start date: September 2009
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

This open-label extension study will permit patients with Systemic Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (SJIA) who previously were responsive to treatment with canakinumab and canakinumab treatment-naïve patients with active SJIA with and without fever to be retreated with 4 mg/kg s.c. every 4 weeks and assessed for continued efficacy and safety until discontinuation or when study CACZ885G2402 is in place at their study center or around March 2013, whichever occurs first. Patients who are steroid-free will be able to taper their canakinumab dose to 2 mg/kg s.c. every 4 weeks.
