There are about 21062 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Italy. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
The purpose of this study is to determine the safety and efficacy of lenalidomide as a first line therapy in treating patients with B-cell Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. This study will compare the effects (good and bad) of lenalidomide with chlorambucil.
Rationale: Patients diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) at an intermediate or advanced stage (according to the BCLC classification system) are not amenable of curative treatment. According to EASL and AASLD guidelines patients with an intermediate stage HCC are treated with trans-arterial chemoembolization (TACE) while patients with an advanced stage HCC are treated with molecular targeted drugs or other combinations according to their liver function. The median survival expected for patients in intermediate-advanced stages ranges from 11 to 20 months. Purpose of the Study: The purpose of this prospective phase II study is to determine whether or not Radioembolization with Yttrium-90 microspheres (TheraSphere®) provides an anti-tumoral effect and a sensible benefit in terms of time-to-progression (TTP) and survival in patients with good liver function (Child A-B7) and a confirmed diagnosis of Intermediate or Advanced (because of the presence of neoplastic portal thrombosis) Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC).
Patients who have completed the 16 weeks treatment of the CHEST-1 trial (study number 11348) will be asked to participate in this long term extension study with BAY63-2521. The aim of the long term study is to collect additional information to evaluate the safety and tolerability of BAY63-2521. Patients will be treated with open label medication on their individual optimal dose between 0,5 mg - 2,5 mg tid.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the predictive role of free Kappa/Lambda ration in Multiple Myeloma post-transplant.
To investigate the potential benefits of a new oral contraceptive (SH T00658ID) on alleviating complaints of dysmenorrhea associated with oral contraceptive use.
This is a prospective, open, non-randomized, non-controlled, phase II, clinical trial for treatment of newly diagnosed AML patients, younger than 66 years. Trial is based on: - INDUCTION: FLAI + Gemtuzumab-Ozogamicin (FLAI-GO). - CONSOLIDATION: Intermediate dose AraC + IDA (IDAC+IDA) +/- one course of high dose AraC (HDAC) - INTENSIFICATION: Allo-BMT, ASCT - MAINTENANCE: AraC a) Primary endpoints: - Feasibility, Efficacy (CR+PR rate) and Toxicity of FLAI + Gemtuzumab-Ozogamicin. - RFS, DFS and OS. b) Secondary endpoints: - Evaluation of Minimal Residual Disease by WT1 (and other biologic markers) expression and monitoring. - Evaluation of prognostic clinical relevance of biological features at onset. - Feasibility and outcome of consolidation with BMT.
The aim of the study is to assess elastography during EUS examinations of focal pancreatic masses, and to consequently differentiate benign versus malignant pancreatic masses in a prospective multi-center design.
Patients with phenylketonuria (PKU) have an inborn error in the metabolism of the amino acid phenylalanine (Phe) and thus must follow a strictly controlled protein-restricted diet from early infancy. This protein-restricted diet is devoid of natural dietary sources of n-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFA), such as eggs, meat, milk or fish. Therefore, blood concentrations of n-3 LC-PUFA, especially of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) are reduced in PKU children compared to healthy controls. DHA availability is considered important for optimal neurological function. Previous studies have shown that neural function of PKU children is improved by high dose supplementation of fish oil providing DHA, as shown by significant improvements of both visual evoked potential latencies and of fine motor skills and coordination, but no dose response relationship has been established so far. This multicentric double-blind randomized trial aims at determining quantitative DHA requirements for optimal neural function in PKU children. Patients with classical PKU from several major treatment centers in Europe will be randomized to receive between 0 and 8 mg of DHA per kg body weight daily for a duration of 6 months. Biochemical (fatty acid composition of plasma phospholipids, lipoprotein metabolism and metabolic profiles), and functional testing (visual evoked potentials, fine motor skills, cognitive function and markers of immune function) will be performed at baseline and after 6 months. Intake per kg body weight will be related to outcome parameters and thus a possible dose response relationship will be defined. The results from this study are expected to contribute to the improvement of the diet of PKU patients, but they also have the potential to help defining quantitative DHA needs of healthy children. The primary hypothesis is that supplementation with DHA improves visual function in children with PKU.
The purpose of this study is to compare the Overall Survival (OS) of HCC patients who receive brivanib as adjuvant treatments to TACE therapy, with the OS of HCC patients who receive matched placebo with TACE therapy.
Patients with moderate to severe renal impairment scheduled for a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan and injection with a contrast agent, Primovist/Eovist, will be asked to participate. The administration of contrast agents that contain gadolinium such as Primovist/Eovist might increase a potential risk to develop a rare condition called nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF) in patients with renal impairment. This study is to assess the potential risk to develop NSF in patients with renal impairment after the administration of Primovist/Eovist. Patients who are enrolled in this study will receive a Primovist/Eovist enhanced MRI scan which was prescribed by the referring doctor. After the MRI scan the patient will be included in a two year follow-up period to assess if signs or symptoms suggestive of NSF have appeared.
