Rosuvastatin in Preventing Myonecrosis in Elective Percutaneous Coronary Interventions (PCIs)

An increase in cardiac biomarkers has been shown to occur in 5% to 30% of patients after otherwise successful percutaneous coronary interventions (PCIs)(1) Apart from side-branch occlusion, intimal dissection and coronary spasm, a possible aetiology of myonecrosis after PCI might be distal embolization of atherogenic materials from plaque disruption,(2 )causing obstruction of blood flow at capillary level resulting in micro-infarction.(3,4 )Recent studies have suggested that pretreatment with Atorvastatin may be associated with a reduction in infarct size after elective PCI. (5-7 ).Actually the standard pretreatment in patients undergoing elective coronary-PCI and already treated with aspirin is copidogrel loading dose administration before procedure.(8,9 ) The investigators hypothesized that a high (40mg) loading dose of Rosuvastatin administered within 24h before the procedure may be effective in reducing the rate of periprocedural MI.Therefore, the investigators will conduct a single center,prospective randomized study to assess whether a single,high (40mg) loading (within24h)dose of Rosuvastatin is effective in preventing elevation of biomarkers of MI after elective coronary stent implantation.

A Study of RO5185426 in Comparison With Dacarbazine in Previously Untreated Patients With Metastatic Melanoma (BRIM 3)

This randomized, open-label study will evaluate the efficacy, safety and tolerability of RO5185426 as compared to dacarbazine in previously untreated patients with metastatic melanoma. Patients will be randomized to receive either RO5185426 [RG7204; PLEXXIKON: PLX4032] 960 mg orally twice daily or dacarbazine 1000 mg/m2 intravenously every 3 weeks. Anticipated time on study treatment is until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity occurs. Patients in the dacarbazine arm may cross over to RO5185426 treatment.

1. Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of removable cast walker compared to non-removable fiberglass off-bearing cast in the treatment of diabetic plantar foot ulcer 2. Research design and methods: Forty-five adult diabetic patients with non-ischemic, non-infected neuropathic plantar ulcer were randomized to treatment with a non-removable fiberglass off-bearing cast (TCC group) or walker cast (Stabil-D group). Treatment duration was 90 days. Percent reduction in ulcer surface area and total healing rates were evaluated after treatment.

Randomized clinical trial comparing water therapy plus low-salt diet to water therapy alone in patients affected by idiopathic calcium nephrolithiasis. Treatment duration: three months Primary end-point: correction of hypercalciuria Main inclusion criteria: calcium stone formers with idiopathic hypercalciuria, with at least one stone expelled and analyzed by infrared spectrophotometry; presence of hypercalciuria (>300 mg/day in males and >200 mg/day in females); 18-65 years.
