The intent of this study is to identify and treat fibromyalgia subjects with comorbid depression who are receiving an SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) or SNRI (selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor) primarily for their depression and to determine whether pregabalin demonstrates improvement relative to placebo in improving pain associated with fibromyalgia.

This study is investigating the effect of switching from Flolan® to Epoprostenol for Injection (EFI/ACT-385781A) in pulmonary arterial hypertension patients currently treated with Flolan®. For this purpose patients being treated for at least 12 months with Flolan® will be switched from Flolan® to EFI/ACT-385781A and followed-up for 90 days. During these 90 days safety and tolerability of EFI/ACT-385781A will closely be monitored in all treated patients. This 90 follow-up will provide clinical evidence on the safety, tolerability, efficacy and treatment satisfaction of switching from Flolan® to EFI/ACT-385781A in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension.

To collect characteristics of patients with ADPKD across a broad population, over time to better understand disease progression (signs, symptoms and outcomes). Association with total kidney volume changes and other measures of disease progression will be determined in order to identify a population at increased risk for disease progression. The economic and quality life impact of ADPKD will be assessed. Subjects who terminated participation early from clinical trials with tolvaptan may also be followed.

A New Alternative to Traditional Hysteroscopy

Hysteroscopy is a procedure designed for the diagnosis and the treatment of intra-uterine diseases. The development of smaller hysteroscopes allowed to change the approach to the intra-uterine lesions unifying the diagnostic and operative time. Recently Gubbini et al. developed a mini-resectoscope feasible for "see&treat" hysteroscopy. The objective of the study is to compare the new 16 Fr mini28 resectoscope by Gubbini with Traditional 22 Fr resectoscope and Bettocchi 15 Fr hysteroscope for the treatment of uterine cavitary lesions. The investigators enrolled 401 women affected by endometrial polyps and/or G0 myomas, randomly allocated to receive the treatment with traditional resectoscope (127 women), with mini-resectoscope by Gubbini (142 women) and Bettocchi hysteroscope (132 women). Operating time, distension media delivered, dismiss time and discomfort experienced were recorded.

The Ideal Deep Venous Thrombosis (DVT) Study

In the Netherlands, 25.000 patients each year are diagnosed with Deep Venous Thrombosis (DVT). Elastic compression stocking (ECS) therapy reduces the incidence of post thrombotic syndrome (PTS) following DVT from 50% without ECS to 20-30% after ECS therapy for two years. It is however unclear whether all patients benefit to the same extent from this therapy or what the optimal duration of ECS therapy for individual patients should be. ECS therapy is not only costly, inconvenient and demanding but sometimes also even debilitating. Substantial costs could be saved by tailoring therapy to individual needs and as a result the quality of life for individual patients can be expected to improve. This study aims to assess the costs and effects of tailoring the duration of ECS therapy after DVT to individual patients needs. ECS therapy with a standard duration of 24 months will be compared with tailored ECS therapy, following an initial therapeutic period of 6 months, in patients with acute proximal DVT. The primary outcome is the percentage of patients with PTS at two year follow-up. This is a multi-center, randomized, allocation concealed, single-blinded clinical trial.

The purpose of this study is to provide anti-HCV drugs to +/- 200 subjects treated in prior BMS studies with placebo + Peginterferon Alfa-2a and Ribavirin and determine if the addition of these drugs can result in higher cure rates in patients who previously failed therapy. Approximately 100 genotype 1b subjects rolling over from BMS study AI447-028 who received placebo will be treated with active drugs in this study.
