Balance in Patients After Surgery for Torn Meniscus

The important role of the menisci in knee function and in preserving knee health has been shown in several studies. Additionally to principal functions of load transmission and shock absorption, meniscus contributes to knee joint proprioception and probably also to joint stability.Study about affect of meniscus injury on balance posture has not previously been published.Surgical practice is increasingly aimed at minimal resection of injured tissue, preserving a stable meniscal remnant with as much function as possible.The purpose of this study is to determine whether menisci surgery have any effects on relatively new postural control measures, in correlation with functional balance assessment. The second purpose is to establish the affect of different types of menisci surgery on balance impairment (meniscectomy vs tear repair), in correlation with a long-term outcome.

Static and Dynamic Balance in Correlation With Quality of Life, in Primary Total Knee Replacement

Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most prevalent musculoskeletal complaints worldwide, affecting 30-40% of the population by the age of 65 yr.Individuals with knee OA suffer progressive loss of function.Balance is an integral component of these and many other activities of daily living. Individuals with knee OA display impairment in postural control, mostly under dynamic testing condition. Total knee replacement (TKR) has an established place in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis and is considered to be an effective intervention.It remains unknown whether TKR impact significantly at balance state of the patients with OA and whether improving in functional abilities after TKR correlates with balance control ability in this population.The purpose of this study is to determine whether TKR have any effects on relatively new postural control measures using force platform system - Balance master, in correlation with functional balance assessment. Methods: Participants During a year of prospective study we plan to recruit 150 participants with symptomatic OA of the knee, hospitalizing in orthopedic department of Hadassah Hospital for primary TKR. Participants will undergo evaluation just before a surgery and a year after.They will be asked to perform Balance Master measurements, ambulation and balance tests. Additional information will be collected through a questionnaire and physical examination.

Surface Roughness of a Dental Restorative Material and Biofilm Formation

In this study we intend to find out the pattern of biofilm accumulation in vivo on various surface finishings. Our intention is to prepare Polymethylmetacrylate squers on orthodontical brackets,then prepare the surface of the sample and measure the surface roughness with a profilimeter and get the mean value in Ra units, then place the brackets on lower premolars and molars for 12 hours, remove them and examine the biofilm formed with confocal scanning microscope.

Isolated Mild Fetal Ventriculomegaly and Neurodevelopmental Outcome

Isolated mild fetal ventriculomegaly is a common finding in fetal ultrasound examinations. When the ventricular diameter is more than 15 mm it is usually considered as severe and connected to other malformations. Most of these children will be severely affected later in life. Less than 10 mm ventricular width considered as normal. The current medical knowledge can not answer questions regarding future development of children who were diagnosed to suffer from mild (10-14.9 mm) brain ventriculomegaly during the pregnancy. We would like to assess the development and neurological status of all children who were diagnosed as "mild ventriculomegaly" during the pregnancy in the last 6 years and to prospectively follow up all the children who will be diagnosed from the beginning of the study on for 6 years. We hypothesized that the course of their development is different than of other children.

MMVAR - Velcade: Study of Velcade for the Treatment of Myeloma Patients After Autologous Transplantation

This is an international study in adult patients diagnosed with multiple myeloma who have already received at least one autologous stem cell transplantation and who have responded but later progressed, or relapsed, at least one year after transplantation. Eligible patients will be randomly assigned to one of two treatments: either Velcade plus Thalidomide plus Dexamethasone or Thalidomide plus Dexamethasone. Thalidomide and Velcade are two new agents that have recently become available for the treatment of multiple myeloma, especially in relapsed patients. This study therefore aims to test the hypothesis that the combination treatment with Velcade plus Thalidomide plus Dexamethasone will result in a longer time to progression (measure of time after the disease is treated until it starts to get worse) than Thalidomide plus Dexamethasone alone.

Safety, Tolerability and Efficacy of XTL 2125 in HCV-Infected Patients Who Are Interferon-Alpha Non-Responders or Relapsers

The study will be a randomized, double blind, placebo controlled, dose rising study in Interferon alpha (IFN-alpha) non-responder HCV infected patients or HCV patients who have relapsed following IFN-alpha therapy. Eligible subjects must have compensated liver disease and serum HCV RNA concentrations above 100,000 IU/mL at screening. The study will include both a single dose period for the evaluation of acute toxicity and single dose pharmacokinetics and a consecutive multi-dose period for the determination of longer-term safety, multiple-dose pharmacokinetics and antiviral activity. The objectives of this study are to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and antiviral activity of escalating single and multiple doses of XTL 2125 in patients with chronic hepatitis C virus infection and to assess the single- and multiple-dose pharmacokinetics of XTL 2125
