This is a Phase 2, randomized, double-masked, placebo-controlled, parallel-group study in adult males and females, aged 18 years and over, with a diagnosis of moderate-to-severe keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS). Patients will be randomized to receive either CF101 1 mg or matching placebo, given orally every 12 hours (q12h) for 12 weeks. A Screening Period of up to 4 weeks that includes a 2-week run-in period will precede a 12-week treatment period, followed by a 2-week follow-up period.
NDV is a virus tht is harmful in chicken, but harmless in man. There are 2 major sub-strains of NDV, one oncolytic and one non-oncolytic. Oncolytic NDV (MTH-68H) preferentially homes and replicates in cancer cells and therefore, administration of NDV intravenously or preferentially intra-tumor, either by direct injection or by injection into an afferent artery results in direct lysis of tumor cells. NDV activates apoptotic mechanism in cancer cells and thus, results in natural cell death. Both oncolytic and non-oncolytic NDV were used clinically in hundreds of patients with different types of cancer worldwide. NDV were proved harmless in man. Clinical studies were done for more than a decade and the efficacy of NDV was documented on pre-clinical animals models as well as in man. For a large number of patients with metastatic cancer and chemotherapy resistant hematological malignances, no cure can be provided by conventional anti-cancer modalities, new treatment options are urgently indicated. The goal of the study is to use NDV, in order to provide such treatment for patients in need.
Removal of unwanted hair is one of the most commonly sought cosmetic solutions. Traditional methods, such as shaving, depilatories, tweezing and waxing result in only temporary hair removal, and thus require extensive maintenance. Long term hair removal via electrolysis is generally unsatisfactory due to its time consuming, painful nature and the associated risk of scarring or pigmentary changes. Moreover, the efficacy of electrolysis is user dependent and is estimated to be reduction of only 15-50% of the unwanted hair3. The more modern approach to long term hair removal involves laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment modalities. These technologies are based on the scientific principle of selective photothermolysis. During the treatment, the light energy is absorbed by the hair’s pigment (melanin) and transmitted through the hair shaft to the follicle. Conversion of this energy into heat causes a rise in the hair temperature, leading to destruction of the follicle and disruption of the hair growth mechanism, while leaving the skin undamaged. Both laser and light devices have been proven successful in inducing permanent hair removal, as well as delayed hair growth, while causing minimal discomfort and complications. The light devices are based on the IPL technology, which differs from laser light in various physical aspects. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of using Leortec 300 device for hair removal treatment.
This study is being conducted to compare the efficacy and safety of pazopanib in combination with lapatinib with that of lapatinib alone in subjects with locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer whose tumors overexpress the ErbB2 protein.
It has been suggested that Viagra (or other drugs that inhibit PDE-5, the enzyme that normally inhibits blood vessels’ ability to expand) may have beneficial effects in hypertensive pregnancy and, possibly, preeclampsia.The benefits of Viagra were observed without any reduction in maternal blood pressure, thereby dissociating hypertension per se from the loss of NO (nitrous oxide) signaling in the uterine circulation.Following publications, suggesting that sildenafil citrate used as a therapeutic agent may improve myometrial perfusion in IUGR gestations by promoting myometrial small artery vasodilatation, decreasing peripheral resistance and increasing flow within the uteroplacental bed, we intend to administer this medication to parturients where intauterine growth restriction and pregnancy associated hypertension have been diagnosed in an attempt to induce vasodilatation and improved uteroplacental perfusion resulting in improved fetal growth.
The objective of this proposal is based on the assumption that the HIV infected Ethiopian population responded in a different way in comparison to the Caucasian subjects to Lopinavir therapy. Our preliminary data demonstrated that Ethiopian's have different Lopinavir serum concentration in comparison to non-Ethiopian's. For these reasons the plan of this study is to investigate the pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) profile in both populations. The results will allow to establish a better personalised medicine for HIV infected individuals.
The purpose of this clinical trial is to find out whether or not the combination of NOV-002 with chemotherapy (paclitaxel and carboplatin) is better at improving overall survival time when compared to chemotherapy alone in people with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Earlier clinical trials in NSCLC showed that patients treated with NOV-002 in combination with chemotherapy had a better response (their tumors got smaller in one United States Phase 1/2 trial) than patients who received chemotherapy alone; and in two Phase 2 trials done in Russian patients, at the end of one year, patients treated with NOV-002 with chemotherapy had a better survival rate than patients who did not receive NOV-002 with their chemotherapy.
Objectives are to evaluate whether idrabiotaparinux (SSR126517E) is as least as effective as a standard warfarin treatment to prevent recurrence of venous thromboembolic events (VTE) in patients with symptomatic pulmonary embolism (PE) with or without symptomatic deep venous thrombosis (DVT) and to assess its safety (bleedings) versus warfarin.
The transfer of frozen-thawed embryos can be performed in a natural ovulatory cycle or in a hormonally manipulated cycle with a comparable pregnancy rate of 15%-20% per ET. When a hormonally modulated ET cycle is scheduled,an artificial endometrial preparation is carried out using estrogen stimulation followed by a concomitant progesterone treatment. Two progestative drugs are currently used in conventional IVF treatment, Utrogetan and Endometrin. Although Endometrin has been be efficiently used to support the luteal phase after embryo transfer in IVF cycles, currently, there is no study that assess its efficacy for clinical use in frozen-thawed ET cycles. The present study aims to compare the outcome of frozen thawed ET cycles when either Endometrin or Utrogestan are used as the progestative substitution in an artificially prepared endometrium.
Umbilical cord often becomes encircled around portions of the fetus, usually the neck. The incidence ranges from 1 loop in 21% to 3 loops in 0.2%. In this study we wish to assessed the practice of severing the cord, which was encircled once around the neck of the fetus, after delivery of the anterior shoulder and prior to extraction of the body. The study and the control groups will include 30 women, each one. After diagnosis of cord around the neck during labor by ultrasound, the women will inter a randomization process. After delivery of the head, it will be cut intentionally in the study group and left intact in the control group. Neonatal outcome will be assessed.
