There are about 9745 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Israel. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
Context: The many treatments and devices developed to unload the diseased articular surface in knee osteoarthritis have provided limited solutions. A novel biomechanical device comprising of four individually calibrated elements attached onto foot-worn platforms was recently developed. This device is capable of such unloading during standing and walking, simultaneously strengthening dynamic stabilizers and training neuromuscular control by controlled biomechanical perturbations. Objective: To asses the effectiveness of this device in reducing pain and improving function in patients with knee osteoarthritis. Design and Setting: Randomized, controlled and double blind prospective trial, conducted from September 2005 to February 2006, in the Department of Orthopedics, Asaf Harofeh Medical Center (Zerifin, Israel). Patients: Sixty-one patients with diagnosed knee osteoarthritis who self-reported moderate-to-severe level pain. Interventions: Patients were randomly assigned into active and control groups and underwent 8 weeks of treatment. The active group was treated with the device and its four biomechanical elements that had been individually calibrated to accommodate a pain-free joint alignment. The control group was treated with the device’s platforms without the biomechanical elements. Primary Outcome Measures: The patients were evaluated three times during the study: at baseline, after 4 weeks and at the 8 week endpoint. Primary outcomes were the Western Ontario and McMaster Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) and the Aggregated Locomotor Function (ALF) assessment.
The purpose of this study is to learn if apixaban can prevent blood clots in the leg (deep vein thrombosis [DVT]) and lung (pulmonary embolism [PE]) that sometimes occur within patients hospitalized for acute medical illness, and to learn how apixaban compares to enoxaparin (Lovenox®) for preventing these clots. The safety of apixaban will also be studied.
SSRI's has been demonstrated to be partially effective in schizophrenia and OCD. We therefore suggest that Escitalopram up to 20 mg /d in those patients could be effective in reducing obsessive compulsive symptomatology
Infants should receive prophylacatic iron supplementation since age 4 months till one year. Patients suffering from malabsorption, mainly Giardia infestation may develop iron deficiency resistent to further iron treatment. The purpose of this study is to assess the incidence of malabsorption in those infants and to examine the results of empiric treatment with metronidazole.
B Thalassemia patients developed short stature and low weight in spite no evident endocrine abnormalities. One hypothesis is that they developed some degree of malnutrition, then the purpose of this study is to assess the nutritional status before nutritional intervention and after one year. Siblings of the patients will serve as a control group. BMI, lipid and endocrine profile and leptin levels will be analysed in the study group only.
Patients diagnosed as having hemoglobinopathies are exposed to serious bacterial infections, principally those patients that underwent splenectomy. Since the introduction of anti pneumococcal vaccine the incidence decreased significantly but other bacteria besides encapsulated bacteria takes place as principal cause of invasive infections. The purpose of this study is to analyse in a retrospective study the incidence of those infections in a group of patients suffering from thalassemia and sickle cell anemia treated in our clinic.
Pediatric patients are admitted to the emergency room for diverse causes, beside trauma, patients can present with convulsions, suspicion of brain tumor or increased intracranial pressure. In most of the cases a brain CT is performed even before physical examination by a skilled neurologist. The amount of radiation that the children are exposed is equivalent to 100 plain chest X rays. The purpose of this tudy is to examinate in a retrospective study what were the indications for CT study and what was the incidence of relevant abnormal findings that required emergency intervention or referral.
The objective of the CABERNET Trial is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of focal delivery of radiation for the treatment of subfoveal choroidal neovascularization (CNV) associated with wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The Epi-Rad90™ Ophthalmic System treats neovascularization of retinal tissue by means of a focal, directional delivery of radiation to the target tissues in the retina. Using standard vitreoretinal surgical techniques, the sealed radiation source is placed temporarily over the retinal lesion by means of a handheld medical device.
RATIONALE: Questionnaires that measure quality of life may help doctors identify the effects of treatment and improve the ability to plan treatment for patients with gastrointestinal-related neuroendocrine tumors. PURPOSE: This phase IV clinical trial is studying how well a disease-specific questionnaire works in assessing the quality of life of patients with gastrointestinal-related neuroendocrine tumors.
The main purpose of this study is to investigate the efficacy of Hypro-Sorb® F, a bilayered bioabsorbable membrane in inducing bone regeneration in different dental procedures requiring GBR.
