Pain after abdominal surgery can be extensive. Pain control is an important component of patient comfort and participation in rehabilitation. Multimodal analgesia methods have shown to reduce postoperative pain, and have been addressed to be a crucial part of the Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS) protocols. Quadratus lumborum block (QLB) is a posterior abdominal wall block which analgesic efficacy has been shown for abdominal surgeries, and also for different laparoscopic procedures, such as ovarian surgery. The aim of this study is to assess QLB's analgesic efficacy for laparoscopic colectomy surgeries, using serial pain score assessments and overall opioid consumption; its effect on patient satisfaction; and its effect on the development of postoperative respiratory complications. This study is a prospective clinical trial assessing the effect of application of QLB as a regional analgesic technique for primary laparoscopic colectomy, in comparison to a historical retrospective cohort.

The study aims to test the safety of Repetitive Magnetic Stimulation (RMS) treatment for dry eye disease. Patients are asked to undergo a one-time treatment with Epitech Ocular Magnetic Stimulation Device on one eye in the first stage and both eyes sequentially in the second stage of the study. Changes are monitored for over a study period of 3 months.

The purpose of this study is to identify a maximum tolerated dose (MTD) or maximum administered dose (MAD) of ulevostinag alone and of ulevostinag in combination with pembrolizumab in participants with advanced/metastatic solid tumors or lymphomas in Part 1, and to evaluate the safety and efficacy of ulevostinag via intratumoral (IT) injection in combination with pembrolizumab in selected solid tumors in Part 2. Ulevostinag will be administered IT; pembrolizumab (pembro) will be administered via intravenous (IV) infusion. In Part 1, participants will be allocated to one of three treatment arms: ulevostinag monotherapy (cutaneous/subcutaneous [cut/subcut] lesions), ulevostinag +pembro (cut/subcut lesions), or ulevostinag +pembro (visceral lesions). In Part 2, participants with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) who are anti-programmed cell death-protein 1 or anti-programmed cell death-ligand 1 (anti-PD-1/PD-L1) refractory or with anti-PD-1/PD-L1 treatment (TrT)-naïve triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) or with anti-PD-1/PD-L1 TrT-naïve solid tumors with liver metastases/lesions will receive ulevostinag via IT injection at the preliminary Recommended Phase 2 Dose (RP2D) determined in Part 1 PLUS pembrolizumab via IV infusion for up 35 cycles (up approximately 2 years).

This is a prospective, single-arm study is to evaluate the safety, effectiveness and usability of the XACT device. Subjects undergoing CT-guided, minimally invasive percutaneous procedures in the interventional radiology suite, e.g., core biopsy, will participate in the summary. Clinical accuracy will be the primary efficacy endpoint. Usability and safety will also be evaluated.
The World Health Organization, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Association of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (AMMI) Canada, and Health Canada have all declared antimicrobial resistance a global threat to health, based on rapidly increasing resistance rates and declining new drug development. Up to 30-50% of antibiotic use is inappropriate, and excessive durations of treatment are the greatest contributor to inappropriate use. Shorter duration treatment (≤7 days) has been shown in meta-analyses to be as effective as longer antibiotic treatment for a range of mild to moderate infections. A landmark trial in critically ill patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia showed that mortality and relapse rates were non-inferior in patients who received 8 vs 15 days of treatment. Similar adequately powered randomized trial evidence is lacking for the treatment of patients with bloodstream infections caused by a wide spectrum of organisms.
