There are about 3753 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Hong Kong. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
The goal of any novel design or therapeutic strategy to treat atrial fibrillation is to restore normal sinus rhythm and to reduce or eliminate the symptoms due to rapid atrial response. Boston Scientific has developed the FARAPULSE⢠Pulsed Field Ablation therapy that uses irreversible electroporation to induce cell death. This Registry is intended to obtain purely observational and prospective real world data and to provide continued evidence on the safety and effectiveness when the FARAPULSE⢠pulsed field ablation System is used per hospitals' standard of care.
The number of people suffering from dementia in Asia (22.9 million) is more than twice the numbers in Europe (10.5 million) or the Americas (9.4 million), as recorded in the global impact of dementia in the World Alzheimer Report 2015.1 This dementia tsunami will continue to rise and the estimated number is 67 million in 2050 in Asia alone, which will be 2 to 3 times higher than the estimates for Europe (19 million) or the Americas (30 million). Devising and implementing preventive strategies against dementia is of paramount importance. The proposed project will be able to establish the associations between VRFs and cognition across cohorts with cultural, ethnical, and demographical variations. This study will generate data for evidence-based knowledge for globally implementable and effective preventive strategies for cognitive impairment and dementia.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of oral azacitidine in participants with low to intermediate International Prognostic Scoring System Revised (IPSS-R) myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS).
Synbiotic is a nutritional supplement that contains both prebiotic and probiotic. Probiotics are beneficial microorganisms, while prebiotics are foods that help the growth of beneficial microorganisms in the gut. In the study, dietary intervention with fruits and vegetables and/or synbiotic supplementation with be administered to Hong Kong Chinese subjects for eight weeks. Changes in the composition and diversity of intestinal microbiota, and markers indicative of obesity, chronic inflammation and metabolic dysfunction will be assessed throughout the whole period. This study will further provide a scientific basis for the intake of synbiotics for reducing the risk of overweight and obesity among Hong Kong Chinese. Furthermore, the results will bridge to further research into the most desirable gut microbiome profile, hence facilitating personalised nutrition for optimal health.
This study will assess the efficacy and safety of the combination of ceralasertib and durvalumab versus standard of care docetaxel in patients with locally advanced and metastatic NSCLC after progression on prior anti-PD-(L)1 therapy and platinum-based chemotherapy.
Children with special education needs (SEN) (e.g., autism, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, dyslexia) who are studying in the mainstream primary schools are commonly found to have difficulties in learning school materials, and controlling their emotion and behaviors in class. Such schooling problems are likely related to their deficient attention, self-control ability and language abilities. As a result, they will easily be stressful, losing confidence, or even be the target of bullying or discrimination. This project aims to evaluate a neuroscience based after-school training program, namely EC Brain Program, to improve academic performance, cognition (attention, self-control and language ability), behaviors and psychological health of primary school students with SEN. The EC Brain Program is composed of computerized training programs that were developed to enhance abilities of attention, self-control and temporal processing (i.e., a fundamental cognitive ability in mastering reading and language skills), and education on basic neuroscience knowledge and ways to enhance brain functions and psychological wellness, e.g., relaxation, stress management and balanced healthy diet. A total of 100 - 250 students with SEN from 10 ordinary primary schools will be recruited in 3-year period. They will be randomly assigned into two groups. Both groups will undergo pre- and post-assessments evaluating their academic performance, cognitive functions, saccadic eye movements, physical and mental health conditions before and after the training. Students in the group A will have to participate in the EC Brain after-school program, whereas students in the group B will join conventional intervention. It is an eight-month weekly program, 90 minutes per session. It is hypothesized that students who have joined the EC Brain Program will show greater extent of improvement in academic performance, behavioral problems, cognitive functions (e.g., attention, learning, self-control, language), saccadic eye movements and psychological wellness than those in the other group. The findings of present study will shed some light on the effectiveness and applicability of the EC Brain Program as a potential after-school neuropsychological intervention for students with SEN.
Tenofovir alafenamide (TAF), a novel prodrug of tenofovir (TFV), has been approved for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. TAF has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of HBV replication at a low dose, with high intracellular concentration and more than 90% lower systemic TFV concentration than tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF). TAF has been approved in the clinical practice guidelines in the west. Since its availability in Asia in 2017, there have been evolving data concerning its positive impact on renal safety as shown in registration trials. The primary objective of this study is to compare the risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression in chronic hepatitis B patients on TAF versus ETV in a territory-wide cohort in Hong Kong.
This study proposed an integrated multi-disciplinary approach including a professional and convenient body composition measurement and an immediate counselling after the measurement, followed by 6-month smart-phone based individualized counselling. We believe that this approach will promote healthy eating behaviors and weight management among middle-aged Chinese in Hong Kong.
Intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) is technique based on diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI). In this study, the investigators evaluate the use of IVIM in patients with Multiple Sclerosis.
This trial adopts a randomized, double-blind and positive control design, it is planned to recruit 1800 healthy participants who have been vaccinated with 2/3 doses of COVID-19 inactivated vaccine or mRNA vaccine for 3 months. The participants will be divided into two strata according to the types of vaccines administered, including 900 participants of COVID-19 inactivated vaccine and 900 participants of mRNA vaccine. According to the ratio of 1:1:1, each stratum was randomly assigned to three groups: sequential BIBP- COVID-19 inactivated vaccine (Omicron), WIBP-COVID-19 inactivated vaccine (Omicron) or COVID-19 inactivated vaccine (prototype strain). And according to D0, D28 immunization schedule, two doses of corresponding group vaccines are sequentially administered.
