RATIONALE: Studying samples of blood in the laboratory from young patients with cancer may help doctors learn how carboplatin, cyclophosphamide, and etoposide affect the body and how patients will respond to treatment. PURPOSE: This laboratory study is evaluating the side effects and how well anticancer drugs work in very young patients with cancer.

PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying tumor tissue, blood samples, and family history in predicting tumor development and response to treatment in young patients with low-grade glioma.
This is a randomised controlled trial investigating the performance of two, 'state of the art' electric breast pumps in mothers who have delivered preterm infants. The main data collection period will be up to day 10 post delivery data. Data collected will include a record of the weight of milk produced during the first 10 days and a short questionnaire to find the mothers' opinions of the pumps used. On Day 5 a timed and weighed expression of 15 minutes will be carried out. After the first 10 days, mothers will be asked to collect brief information on their continuing use of their pumps and subsequent duration of breast and bottle feeding, mothers will be contacted at 3 and 6 months post-term

RATIONALE: Comparing results of MRI scans done after bevacizumab may help doctors predict a patient's response to treatment and help plan the best treatment. It is not yet known whether giving bevacizumab alone is more effective than giving bevacizumab together with interferon alpha-2a in detecting kidney cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized phase II trial is studying MRI scans of blood vessel changes caused by bevacizumab to see how well it works compared with bevacizumab given together with interferon alpha-2a in treating patients with stage III or stage IV kidney cancer.
The purpose of this study is to identify potential biomarkers that may predict the development of Alzheimer's disease in people who carry an Alzheimer's mutation.
The purpose of this study is to develop and test an educational intervention for dementia in primary care, combining timely diagnosis, psychosocial support around the period of diagnosis and management concordant with guidelines.
The trial will examine whether pharmacological treatment with donepezil, memantine or combination of memantine and donepezil is any better than a placebo (dummy) treatment in people with Alzheimer's disease who have reached the moderate to severe stage of illness. Using a double blind design, where neither the investigators nor participants know who is receiving which treatment, participants will be randomly assigned to one of these four treatment groups (donepezil and memantine, memantine only, donepezil only or placebo). In order to keep both the investigators and participants blind to drug allocation a double dummy design will be necessary. This means that each participant will receive 2 treatments − either an active form or placebo of each of the 2 study drugs. Hypotheses are: 1. Patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) who continue donepezil beyond the point of transition from moderate to severe dementia continue to show significantly less decline on ratings of cognitive function and activities of daily living over the following 12 months than those discontinuing donepezil. 2. Patients with AD who change to memantine therapy in place of donepezil at the point of transition from moderate to severe dementia show significantly smaller decline on ratings of cognitive function and activities of daily living over the following 12 months than those who receive placebo. 3. Patients given the combination of memantine and donepezil at the point of transition from moderate to severe dementia show significant additive or synergistic benefits on measures of activities of daily living and cognitive function after 12 months compared to those patients continuing on either drug as a single treatment.
