There are about 25435 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in United Kingdom. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
The purpose of this clinical trial is to demonstrate the benefit of the immunotherapeutic product GSK1572932A when given to patients with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer, after removal of their tumor. A course of 13 injections will be administered over 27 months. The Protocol Posting has been updated in order to comply with the FDA Amendment Act, Sep 2007.
This is an observational study to assess the long-term safety of Protopic® Ointment for the treatment of atopic dermatitis. Patients whose ages are/were < 16 years at the time of first tacrolimus ointment exposure are eligible to participate. No drug is distributed during this observational trial.
Patients with implanted pacemakers are currently seen by their cardiologists every 6-12 months. Shorter follow-up intervals are generally seen as excessive workload for the physician, with little benefit for the patient. Longer intervals are seen as too dangerous concerning device integrity and safety. This scheme still results in a large number of follow-up visits with little or no important changes in pacemaker therapy. Our clinical trial investigates efficacy and safety of the Home Monitoring technology for increasing the flexibility in pacemaker follow-up. Home Monitoring technology allows automatic transmission via mobile phone links of relevant data from the implanted pacemaker to a service center. The patient's physician can access the data via a password-protected internet site. The regular Home Monitoring data analyses entirely replace clinical routine visits ("virtual clinic"). Follow-up visits are scheduled according to the results of the Home Monitoring data analyses. The primary endpoint of the study is to compare the total workload for pacemaker patient care in the virtual clinic with that of standard follow-up scheme with regularly scheduled clinical visits.
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as carboplatin and gemcitabine, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving more than one drug (combination chemotherapy) may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving carboplatin together with gemcitabine works in treating patients with locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer.
Approximately 50% of middle-aged patients with severe AGHD have a normal age-related serum IGF-I. It remains unclear if in these individuals serum IGF-I is GH dependent or independent. This study compared the relationship between GH and serum IGF-I in two cohorts of male patients with severe AGHD; one with normal and the other with subnormal age-related serum IGF-I values. The GH receptor antagonist - pegvisomant was be used to specifically inhibit GH action and the changes in markers of the GH axis, such as serum IGF-I, IGFBP-3, GH and GHBP were measured.
The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of preventing hyperglycaemia in patients admitted to hospital with acute exacerbations of chronic pulmonary disease.
The purpose of this study is to assess efficacy and safety of volinanserin in the population of patients complaining of sleep maintenance insomnia. The objective of the substudy is to assess glycemic control in the subgroup of patients with type II diabetes mellitus.
SB-705498 has demonstrated efficacy in several preclinical and human experimental pain models. This study will investigate the efficacy of SB-705498 in patients with rectal pain. This will be a double-blind, placebo-controlled, two-way crossover study. 21 patients with faecal urgency (Group 1), and 21 patients with IBS (Group 2) will complete this study.
The purpose of the study is to investigate if treatment with zalutumumab in combination with chemotherapy and radiotherapy (chemo-radiation) will lead to a prolonged life in patients with lung cancer compared to patients treated with chemo-radiation alone.
RATIONALE: Zoledronic acid may help decrease the risk of broken bones, bone pain, and other symptoms caused by bone metastases. It may also help patients live more comfortably. PURPOSE: This randomized clinical trial is studying different schedules of zoledronic acid to compare how well they work in treating patients with breast cancer that has spread to the bone.
