Blood safety is ensured by the rigorous selection of donors and biological tests. However, infectious agents can escape this detection and be transmitted to recipients during transfusion. Amotosalen is a derivative of psoralens that intercalates with nucleic acids and inactivates them after UV exposure; it therefore makes it possible to inhibit any replication of an infectious agent present. Preliminary studies have shown its safety and efficacy in preventing the transmission of infectious agents during the administration of labile blood products (fresh frozen plasma and platelet concentrates) as well as the absence of loss of efficacy (absence of loss of pro-aggregating and procoagulant properties) of the transfused products. In addition, there is a significant reduction in side effects for platelet concentrates, especially compared to irradiated concentrates. Treatment of platelet concentrates with Amotosalen may be responsible for a reduction in the platelet concentration in each concentrate with an overall decrease in efficiency and transfusion yield compared to untreated concentrates.

The BIMAR study aims to compare electrophysiological data measured with electroretinogram (ERG) and electroencephalogram (EEG) between a group of euthymic patients with bipolar disorder (BD) and a group of healthy controls subjects. Secondarily, the investigators also want to: - Compare combined electrophysiological measurements with ERG and EEG between the two groups. - Identify relations between clinical, neuropsychological and circadian phenotypes in patients with BD and electrophysiological measurements measured with ERG and EEG. The main hypothesis of the investigators is that differences exist in the ERG and EEG measurements between subjects with BD and healthy subjects. Those differences could be identified as candidate markers for BD which, if confirmed in later studies, could be used in current practice to guide the management of patients with BD.
This study is open to adults with liver cirrhosis and high blood pressure in the portal vein (main vessel going to the liver). The purpose of this study is to find out whether a medicine called Avenciguat helps people with this condition. Participants are put into 3 groups randomly, which means by chance. Participants in 2 groups take different doses of Avenciguat as tablets twice a day. Participants in the placebo group take placebo as tablets twice a day. Placebo tablets look like Avenciguat tablets but do not contain any medicine. Participants are in the study for about 8 months. During this time, they visit the study site about 14 times. At 3 of the visits, the doctors check the pressure in a liver vein. This is done with a catheter (a long thin tube) and gives information about the pressure in the portal vein. The change in blood pressure is then compared between the groups to see whether the treatment works. The doctors also regularly check participants' health and take note of any unwanted effects.
The aim of the FUSE-ML study is to develop and externally validate a robust ML-based prediction tool based on multicenter data from a range of international centers that will provide individualized risk-benefit profiles tailored to each patient undergoing lumbar spinal fusion for degenerative disease. Data will be collected by a range of international centers.
Oral mucositis is one of the most debilitating side effects of radiation therapy and various forms of chemotherapy, especially for head and neck cancers and hematopoietic stem cell transplants. It is a consequence of the cytostatic effects of anticancer treatments on rapidly renewing cells of the oral mucosa; An ulcer appears which will increase in size due to subsequent bacterial, fungal and / or viral growth, while the leakage of toxins through damaged capillaries causes irritation and a burning sensation. Proteolytic enzymes, known to destroy the extracellular matrix, inhibit cell regeneration and healing. Depending on the severity of the ulceration, infection and feeding possibilities, mucositis is scored between grade 0 (absent) and grade 4 (maximum) (according to the WHO (World Health Organization) classification or the NCI-CTCAE (National Cancer Institute-Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events), the latter degree most often requiring a modification of the anticancer treatment which may have an impact on the prognosis of the disease. Although, theoretically, mucositis is easy to treat because it only requires simple cleaning of the ulcers and stimulation of the growth of the underlying healthy cells to make up for the loss of substance, there are currently only limited symptomatic treatments available.

The purpose of this study is to assess in real-life clinical practice, over a 24-month period, the effectiveness and safety of current standard of care (SOC) antimyeloma treatments in participants with previously treated relapsed and/or refractory multiple myeloma.
Fluid overload is a poor prognostic factor in patients undergoing continuous renal replacement therapy in critical care. A strategy of active fluid removal by net ultrafiltration (UFnet) is one of the means to correct it. However, fluid overload is difficult to quantify: weight variations or cumulative fluid balance are easy to use but imprecise and not concordant markers, while reference methods such as isotope dilution are not adapted to daily practice. Bio electrical impedance analysis (BIA) is used to estimate body composition, including hydration. It is a non-invasive, rapid and painless measurement. It is commonly used in chronic intermittent haemodialysis to estimate dry weight and guide fluid removal, with a demonstrated impact on blood pressure control. This analysis is feasible in the ICU. Fluid overload as defined by BIA correlates with mortality, most notably in acute renal failure and during continuous renal replacement therapy. We routinely perform multifrequency segmental BIA (InBody S10, Seoul, Korea) in patients with fluid overload in our intensive care department. Since February 2021, we have implemented a protocol to systematically correct fluid overload by inducing negative fluid balance with UFnet in a manner appropriate to tissue perfusion. In this context, we systematically perform a BIA analysis on the day of the beginning of the fluid balance negativation and then every 48 hours during the first five days. We would like to evaluate the relevance of BIA monitoring in these patients by comparing it to other parameters of evaluation of the volume status usually used.
