Comparison of Efficacy of Two Mandibular Advancement Devices (MADs) During Sleep

Mandibular Advancement Devices (MADs) are now a reliable alternative to continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatments for Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) . Despite good tolerance and efficacy, there are still barriers limiting the widespread use of MAD and its acceptance in OSA routine clinical practice. Various MAD designs currently exist and constantly emerge on the market without clear evidence regarding the best technical choice and the cost-effectiveness compromise. Although these MAD has been tested in term of efficacy, no study has tested the difference between MADs in term of efficacy, tolerance and patient satisfaction. The aim of this clinical trial is to compare the effectiveness of two MADs - custom-made titratable MAD (NarvalTM) and customizable titratable MAD (TALITM), over a 3-month period, in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

Correlation of VEGF-A and Fluid Balance in Septic Shock

VEGF is a key molecule in the control of vascular permeability via interactions with the VEGF-receptor on the endothelial cell. Several authors reported plasma VEGF levels are elevated in sepsis shock and associated with increased mortality (1,2). In septic shock, the main elements of treatment are intravenous fluids, appropriate antibiotics and vasopressors. Some authors observed positive fluid balance is associated with increased mortality rates in patients (3,4). To the best of our knowledge, no studies have shown a correlation between VEGF levels and the fluid balance. The aim of our study was to determine the role of VEGF in capillary leakage and the positive fluid balance in septic shock.

Erectus Nerve Block for Lumbar Spine Surgery

: Spine surgery induced severe postoperative pain. Several techniques as intravenous multimodal analgesia have been proposed to reduce pain relief and morphine rescue over the first postoperative days. Regional anesthesia using the erectus nerve block is a simple infiltration across lamina of the vertebra: Ultrasound-guided posterior ramus of spinal nerve block for anesthesia and analgesia in lumbar spinal surgery This study compared erector nerve block with local anesthetic vs placebo to reduce pain and morphine rescue after lumbar spine surgery. The investigators hypothesized that eructor nerve block induced a large block from L1 to L5 that induced posterior nerve roots block anesthesia. This block reduced pain after surgery.

Educational Follow-up in COPD Patients After Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

After pulmonary rehabilitation, the challenge is to maintain the benefits reached during the program and increase physical activity. As exercise training, education is the corner stone of pulmonary rehabilitation. Education allows to support behavioral changes in daily life. Recommendations about modalities for maintaining physical activity are still clear, however for educational follow up recommendations need to be clarified. After a pulmonary rehabilitation program, there is no defined plan for educational follow up nor location to perform education session. The aim of this study is to evaluate the proportion of patients who succeed to establish and maintain the objectives they defined during the pulmonary rehabilitation program, one year after this program.

Testing the Efficacy and Safety of BIO101 for the Prevention of Respiratory Deterioration in COVID-19 Patients

The COVA clinical study is a global multicentric, double-blind, placebo-controlled, group sequential and adaptive 2 parts phase 2-3 study targeting in patients with SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia. Part 1 is a Phase 2 exploratory Proof of Concept (PoC) study to provide preliminary data on the activity, safety and tolerability of BIO101 in the target population. Part 2 is a phase 3 pivotal randomized study to provide further evidence of safety and efficacy of BIO101 after 28 days of double-blind dosing. BIO101 is the investigational new drug that activates the Mas receptor (MasR) through the protective arm of the Renin Angiotensin System (RAS).

Study of Oral Navitoclax Tablet In Combination With Oral Ruxolitinib Tablet When Compared With Oral Ruxolitinib Tablet To Assess Change In Spleen Volume In Adult Participants With Myelofibrosis

Myelofibrosis is a type of bone marrow cancer that usually develops slowly and disrupts body's normal production of blood cells. It causes bone marrow scarring, leading to severe anemia that can cause weakness and fatigue. It can also cause a low number of blood-clotting cells called platelets, which increases risk of bleeding. Myelofibrosis often causes an enlarged spleen. The purpose of this study is to see if a combination of navitoclax and ruxolitinib is more effective and safe in assessment of change in spleen volume when compared to ruxolitinib in participants with myelofibrosis. Navitoclax is an investigational drug for the treatment of myelofibrosis. Participants in this study are divided into two groups, called treatment arms. Each group receives a different treatment. Adult participants with a diagnosis of myelofibrosis will be enrolled. Around 230 participants will be enrolled in approximately 190 sites worldwide. Participants will receive oral navitoclax tablet with oral ruxolitinib tablet or oral ruxolitinib tablet with oral placebo (no active drug) tablet and treatment may continue untill the participant cannot tolerate the study drug, or benefit is not achieved, or other reasons which qualify for discontinuation of the study drug. There may be a higher treatment burden for participants in this trial compared to their standard of care. Participants will attend regular visits during the course of the study at a hospital or clinic. The effect of the treatment will be checked by medical assessments, blood tests, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT) scan, bone marrow tests, checking for side effects, and completing questionnaires.
