NCT ID: NCT06015971 Recruiting - Sarcopenia Clinical Trials

Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Nutritional Support in Gastrointestinal Cancer

Start date: July 1, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Sarcopenia is a frequent complication in patients with cancer and chronic diseases, it is characterized by decreased muscle strength and fatigue due to reduced skeletal muscle mass, which is accompanied by atrophy and decreased quality of muscle tissue. In all cases, it negatively impacts treatment tolerance, clinical outcomes and survival, in consequence, quality of life of these patients decreases while morbidity, mortality and costs increase. In this context, appropriate nutritional screening and early nutrition support are extremely recommended, to this aim, in some cases, oral nutritional supplements (ONS) are necessary; ONS could have a standard formula or be enriched with specific nutrients (arginine, glutamine, branched chain amino acids, n-3 fatty acids, and nucleotides), which can modulate the activity of the immune system and provide an additional benefit beyond the nutritional support, this intervention type is called immunonutrition. Despite these possible benefits, their utility has been proven in few clinical scenarios, for example in with patients with upper gastrointestinal cancer undergoing surgical resection; based on this, current guidelines recommend that patients should receive oral/enteral nutritional support with an specific formula enriched in immunonutrients (with arginine, n-3 fatty acids or nucleotides) , but there is a lack of evidence for supporting its use in other clinical conditions including patients with cancer that receive systemic treatment

NCT ID: NCT06015516 Enrolling by invitation - Healthy Clinical Trials

Bioavailability Clinical Trial of Oral Minoxidil 1 mg

Start date: February 9, 2024
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

The goal of this clinical trial is to learn about the pharmacokinetic profile (behaviour of the drug in the body) of a new oral formulation of minoxidil administered in healthy volunteers. The main question that is to answer is to evaluate the bioavailability of the oral test formulation of minoxidil. The secondary onjectives is to compare it with the formulation already on the market (i.e . Regaxidil® 20 mg/mL cutaneous solution). It is planned that 14 healthy female volunteers of legal age (without any known pathology) participate in the study. The expected duration of the study is approximately 23-56 days. Each volunteer that decide to participate in this study will be sequentially administered one of the formulations planned for the study: either the test formulation (oral minoxidil tablets of 1 mg, developed by Industrial Farmacéutica Cantabria, S.A.), or the reference formulation (minoxidil skin solution, 20 mg/mL, marketed by Industrial Farmacéutica Cantabria, S.A.). After five days of administration of one of the study formulations, at least 7 days will elapse before starting an additional five days of administration of the other study formulation that had not been administered in the first sequence. Assignment to this sequence of administration of the study formulations (oral formulation or topical solution) shall be completely randomised. In each of these sequential periods of five days of administration of the study formulations, the concentration of minoxidil will be quantified in blood samples, which will be taken from each of the volunteers at certain times after the administration of the medication. These blood analyses will enable to determine the parameters that define the pharmacokinetic profile of the new oral formulation under study.

NCT ID: NCT06014749 Recruiting - Regional Anesthesia Clinical Trials

Serratus Intercostal Block Versus Epidural Analgesia in Eventration: Prospective Observational Study

Start date: September 1, 2022
Phase:
Study type: Observational [Patient Registry]

Adequate pain control, rehabilitation and early postoperative recovery are currently the model to follow according to the recommended guidelines. In this project the main objective is to evaluate 2 different analgesic strategies both intraoperatively and postoperatively, one based on 1. Epidural analgesia and the other 2. Echoguided serratus intercostal block prior to surgical intervention in eventration or abdominal wall repair interventions. We conducted an observational study with a low level of intervention. Epidural analgesia prior to general anesthesia and serratus-intercostal block prior to general anesthesia) following the criteria applied in each case according to the operating room anesthesiologist until reaching the sample size and fulfilling the criteria of: abdominal eventration repair, over 18 years of age, ASA I-III. Signature of the IC.

NCT ID: NCT06014021 Completed - Clinical trials for Pelvic Floor Disorders

Tele-rehabilitation for Female Athletes With Pelvic Floor Dysfunctions

ACTITUD2
Start date: September 15, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Pelvic floor dysfunctions (PFD) are especially prevalent among females. As conservative management, strengthening pelvic floor (PF) musculature under health supervision, regard an important research line. However, embarrassment of female athletes limits healthcare demands. New technologies could facilitate an autonomous but supervised tele-rehabilitation programs. This study will evaluate the effects of a 6-weeks strengthening PF program by using tele-rehabilitation, with or without intracavitary biofeedback, in the PF anatomo-functional characteristics, quality of life and sports performance of female athletes with PFD. To this end, 45 female athletes with self-reported PFD who train and compete in athletic in Spain will be recruited and randomly distributed in three groups of the experimental study. During 6 weeks, all participants will use an specifically developed Smartphone application (named ACTITUD): the control group (CG) will have access to information about PF and direct communication with healthcare team; experimental group 1 (EG1) will have access to the same information and communication, and will perform a strengthening program for PF, which will be instructed by 3D avatars, while using an intracavitary biofeedback device that will inform about vaginal pressure; the experimental group 2 (EG2) will be similar to EG1, but they will not use the intracavitary biofeedback device. Before and after these 6 weeks, anatomo-functional PF characteristics, quality of life, PFD symptoms and sports performance of all participants will be evaluated. As an additional outcome, the level of engagement of the athletes from experimental groups to complete the training program will be registered.

NCT ID: NCT06013969 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Generalized Pustular Psoriasis

A Study to Test Whether Spesolimab Helps People With Generalized Pustular Psoriasis (GPP) Who Need Treatment for Repeated Flares

Start date: October 11, 2023
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

This study is open to adults with a serious skin disease called generalized pustular psoriasis (GPP) who have repeated flares of GPP. The purpose of this study is to find out whether a medicine called spesolimab helps people with repeated flares of GPP. Participants are given a single dose of spesolimab as an infusion into a vein on the first day of an outbreak of GPP. They may be given a second dose 1 week later if doctors think it is helpful. They are also treated for additional GPP flares. During the time of the study, doctors regularly examine participants' skin for signs of GPP to see how well the treatment works and take blood samples. The doctors also regularly check participants' health and take note of any unwanted effects.

NCT ID: NCT06012877 Completed - Fear Clinical Trials

Evaluation of the "Health Friendly" Program to Reduce Children's Fear of the Healthcare Environment.

HFriendly
Start date: September 15, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The goal of this clinical trial is to evaluate the effectiveness of a novel intervention that involved contact interaction with a simulated healthcare space to reduce medical fear in children in infant class. The main question it aims to answer is: • Will the Health Friendly Program, based on the interaction with a simulate healthcare space, reduce medica fear among children in infant class? Participants will participate in the Health Friendly Program that will consist of showing the children different scenarios that simulated various medical contexts, letting them experiment with the material and ask questions. Researchers will compare two groups (intervention group and control group) to see if there exist differences between both groups in their responses to the Child Medical Fear Scale.
