Changes in Coagulation in Colorectal Cancer Patients Undergoing Surgical Treatment

Cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) has prolonged the survival substantially for selected patients with peritoneal metastases from colorectal cancer.Bleeding and thromboembolic disease have been reported as postoperative complications related to this advanced open surgical treatment. However, perioperative changes in coagulation and fibrinolysis are only sparsely reported in the literature.The mainstay of treatment with curative intend of none-advanced colorectal cancer is minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery followed by adjuvant chemotherapy. The approach is considered associated with a lower risk of thromboembolic disease than open surgery. Despite differences in extent of surgery and thromboembolic risk the same extended thromboprophylaxis regimen for 28 days is currently prescribed to patients undergoing cytoreductive surgery with HIPEC as well as minimally invasive rectal cancer resection. This study aims to investigate all parts of the coagulation system and fibrinolysis, and thereby thromboembolic risk and potential bleeding in two groups of patients with different extent of surgical trauma: 1) Colorectal cancer patients undergoing cytoreductive surgery with HIPEC and 2) rectal cancer patients undergoing minimal invasive rectal cancer resection. Our hypothesis is that patients undergoing cytoreductive surgery with HIPEC are exposed to more aggravated alterations of coagulation and fibrinolysis than patients undergoing minimally invasive rectal cancer resection.

Soccer Training and Influence of Protein and Carbohydrate Ingestion on Health

The aim of the study was to examine the adaptive response to recreational soccer, conducted as small-sided games, and the effect of supplementing with either protein or carbohydrate after each training session in 10 weeks. One hundred fifty one middle-aged women and men were randomized into a group ingesting protein or carbohydrate beverages immediately after recreational soccer and prior to bedtime on training days or a control group maintained their normal activities. Training was performed 2.1 times per week for 10 weeks.

Bronchoscopic Endotracheal Intubation Through a SAD - Physician Performance

Prospective observational study with the primary objective is to assess technical competence in anaesthesiology specialists who perform bronchoscopic endotracheal intubation through a supraglottic airway device (SAD), by using a global rating assessment scale (GRS) and a procedure checklist. We will use an Objective Structured Assessment of Technical Skills (OSATS)-inspired GRS that previously have been validated for fiberoptic intubation and a novel clinical checklist developed for the procedure. Secondarily, we will examine potential predictor variables.

The footwear fashion among medical doctors has been static for decades with a high preference for clogs. However, other types of shoes have been introduced, including sneakers, sandals etc. In some subspecialties with a "need-for-speed", high-agility footwear may be prioritized, while other subspecialist may benefit from "easy-to-clean" shoes. Even comfortability may influence the choice of footwear. We intend to investigate measures of footwear fashion among medical doctors working at Aarhus University Hospital, Denmark. Participants will be blinded.

Study intervention is based in the M3 rehabilitation unit, as part of Hobro hospital. The intervention will proceed until 6 full-day dietary registrations have been collected per patient (40 patients total), 3 for each registration method. The estimated time requirement is 30 days.

A Study to Test the Effect of Different Doses of Avenciguat (BI 685509) on Kidney Function in People With Chronic Kidney Disease

This study is open to adults who have kidney disease that is not caused by diabetes. The purpose of the study is to find out whether a medicine called avenciguat (BI 685509) improves kidney function. Three different doses of avenciguat are tested in this study. Participants get either one of the three doses of avenciguat or placebo. It is decided by chance who gets which avenciguat dose and who gets placebo. Participants take avenciguat or placebo as tablets 3 times a day. Placebo tablets look like avenciguat tablets but do not contain any medicine. Participants continue taking their usual medicine for kidney disease throughout the study. Participants are in the study for about 7 months. During this time, they visit the study site about 11 times. Where possible, about 6 of the 11 visits can be done at the participant's home instead of the study site. The trial staff may also contact the participants by phone or video call. Kidney function is assessed based on the analysis of urine samples, which participants collect at home. At the end of the trial the results are compared between the different doses of avenciguat and placebo. During the study, the doctors also regularly check the general health of the participants.
