There are about 244 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Costa Rica. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
This non-interventional study will prospectively collect detailed, high-quality documentation of bleeds, HRQoL, and safety in patients with hemophilia A with or without FVIII inhibitors treated according to local routine clinical practice (receiving FVIII replacement or bypassing agents as either episodic or prophylactic treatment). Actual patients will be enrolled from routine clinical practice in this observational study.
This study is to assess safety as defined by the frequency and severity of gastrointestinal (GI) perforation/fistula, GI-vaginal fistula and genitourinary (GU) fistula in participants treated with bevacizumab 15 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) in combination with paclitaxel and carboplatin, all repeated every 3 weeks, for recurrent, persistent or metastatic cervical cancer. In addition, this study will include evaluation of the overall safety profile of bevacizumab in combination with paclitaxel and carboplatin in this setting, assessment of GI perforation/fistula, GI-vaginal fistula and GU fistula events over time, and evaluation of efficacy.
This multicenter, randomized, double-blind study evaluated the efficacy, safety, and pharmacokinetics of atezolizumab (MPDL3280A) administered with nab-paclitaxel compared with placebo in combination with nab-paclitaxel in participants with locally advanced or metastatic triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) who have not received prior systemic therapy for metastatic breast cancer (mBC). The safety of single-agent nab-paclitaxel has been determined in previous studies of participants with mBC and the safety data to date suggest that atezolizumab can be safely combined with standard chemotherapy agents.
DISCOVER is a Non Interventional Study study to describe the disease management patterns and clinical evolution over three years in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients initiating a second line anti-diabetic treatment.
This study aims to make a proper scientific assessment on the dietary intake and physical activity levels of a representative sample of the urban population of 8 Latin American countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Perú and Venezuela). The study was based on complex, multistage sample design, stratified by conglomerates, being all regions of each country represented, and random selection of main cities within each region according to probability proportional to size method. Sample will be stratified by gender, age (15 to 65 years old), and socioeconomic level. Socioeconomic levels will be balanced and divided in three strata (high, medium and low) based on national indexes used in each country. All the study sites are university-based and will adhere to a common study protocol for training, implementation of fieldwork, data collection and management, and quality control procedures to be performed simultaneously. All participants will be required to provide a written informed consent. A pilot study at small scale will be performed in each country in order to test procedures and tools involved in ELANS. Anthropometric variables, including body weight, height, waist, hip and neck circumferences will be measured according to a standardized protocol. Nutritional intake evaluation will be performed using two 24-hour dietary recalls, with 'multiple pass' procedure and a food frequency questionnaire. Nutritional data will be entered in Nutrition Data System for Research (NDS-R, Minnesota University) after a harmonization process between local foods and NDSR database. Physical activity and energy expenditure will be assessed by IPAQ-long version questionnaire and 7-day accelerometry.
Studies which describe the bacterial aetiology and antimicrobial susceptibility in AOM children in Latin America are scarce. Interestingly, when the MEF microbiology was analyzed among 1,108 children aged 2-92 months with OM between years 2002 and 2007, non-typable H. influenzae was the most common pathogen isolated from the MEF of children with a otitis media failing to appropriate antimicrobial therapy. PCV-7 (3 + 1 regimen) was introduced into the Costa Rican national immunization program in January 2009 and in August/September of 2011, it was changed for PCV 13 (-2+1 regimen). Following PCV-7 universal introduction in Costa Rica, between March of 2010 and January of 2011, MEF samples from Costa Rican children with OM, having received 0-4 PCV 7 vaccine doses, were obtained via tympanocentesis (88%) or from spontaneous otorrhoea (12%). It was interesting to observed that among the initial 134 OM episodes, the most common bacterial pathogen identified was H. influenzae (55%) followed by S. pneumoniae (31%) and that among the S. pneumoniae episodes, 55% were already non-PCV-7 serotypes and that 25% of these isolates were multi-drug resistant. The primary objectives of the study are to analyze the effect of early universal utilization of PCV-13 in Costa Rican children with the number of H. influenzae and PCV-13- S. pneumoniae positive MEF cultures by comparing the data collected prospectively and by the same group of investigators that have collected the original data since 1992, from children for the post-PCV-13 introduction with anonymised information collected retrospectively pre-PCV-7 data (1999-2004) during a transition period in which PCV-7 was used in only the private settings (2005-2008) and during universal use of PCV-7 (2009-September 2011).
This is a follow-up of the primary series vaccination schedule in Study A3L24 (NCT01177722) and booster vaccination in Study A3L27 (NCT01444781). Study Objective: - To describe the long-term antibody persistence at 3.5 and 4.5 years of age following a 3-dose primary series vaccination of either DTaP-IPV-Hep B-PRP-T+Prevenar™ (PCV7) +Rotarix™ or Infanrix hexa™+Prevenar™ (PCV7) +Rotarix™ vaccination at 2, 4, 6 months of age and a booster vaccination of DTaP-IPV-Hep B-PRP-T+Prevenar™ (PCV7) or Infanrix hexa™+Prevenar™ (PCV7) at 12 to 24 months of age. Observational Objectives: - To describe the long-term antibody persistence by group and by stratification on the age at inclusion of the A3L27 booster study. - To describe the effect of one additional oral dose of stand alone poliovirus isotypes 1, 2 and 3 vaccine* on the antibody persistence immune response for poliovirus isotypes (4 vs 5 doses of poliovirus administered).
This multicenter, observational study will evaluate the use and efficacy of RoActemra/Actemra (tocilizumab) in routine clinical practice in patients with moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis. Eligible patients initiated on RoActemra/Actemra treatment in accordance with the local label will be followed for 6 months.
The goal of this study is to determine if papaya fruits are an exceptionally good food source for carotenoids in humans, particularly when compared more common carotenoid sources like carrots and tomatoes. This objective will be accomplished by quantitation of the immediate post-prandial plasma concentrations of parent carotenoids and vitamin A metabolites from subjects who consumed a meal containing fresh papaya, tomato, and carrot.
The purpose of this study is to estimate the survival proportion one year after surgery for intertrochanteric fracture in older adults in Latin America.
