Study type: Observational

Overall study design: This study is a prospective, non-randomized, multicenter postmarket clinical follow-up study with two study arms using the two shoulder prosthesis PROMOSā„¢ STANDARD (group A) and PROMOS REVERSEā„¢ (group B). The study will collect efficacy and safety data over 10 years.

NCT ID: NCT00924859 Completed - Clinical trials for Cerebral Venous Thrombosis

The Role of Factor XIII Activation Peptide and D-dimer Values for the Diagnosis of Cerebral Venous Thrombosis (CVT)

Start date: September 2009
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The investigators aim to assess the overall accuracy of D-dimer values and FXIII activation peptide (FXIII-AP), using a newly developed ELISA test, to exclude CVT in patients with clinical suspicion of CVT.

NCT ID: NCT00924222 Completed - Clinical trials for Cardiac On-pump Surgery

Organ Protection With Sevoflurane Postconditioning After Cardiac Surgery With Cardiopulmonary Bypass

Start date: October 2007
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Organ protection, volatile anesthetics, postconditioning. Sedation of patients on ICU after cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass with either propofol or sevoflurane. Evaluation of organ function and inflammatory mediators in the blood.

NCT ID: NCT00924105 Completed - Clinical trials for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Safety, Tolerability and Pharmacodynamics of CYT013-IL1bQb in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes

Start date: June 2009
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this clinical trial is to test safety and tolerability of a vaccine targeting Interleukin-1 beta in patients with type 2 diabetes.

NCT ID: NCT00923988 Completed - Clinical trials for Endothelial Function

Effect of Passive Smoking on Platelet Function and Endothelial Function

Start date: June 2009
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Passive smoking is associated with an increased risk for cardiovascular events. However, the exact mechanisms by which passive smoking affects cardiovascular health are not entirely understood. In the present study, the researchers investigate the effects of short-term exposure to secondhand smoke on platelet function and peripheral microvascular endothelial function in healthy individuals. For this purpose, platelet function and endothelial function are measured before and after a 1-hour exposure to secondhand smoke in a concentration that is encountered in bars and restaurants without smoke-free policies. The researchers' hypothesis is that short-term exposure leads to platelet activation and impairment of endothelial function.

NCT ID: NCT00923312 Completed - Clinical trials for Non Small Cell Lung Cancer

Trial of an RNActive®-Derived Cancer Vaccine in Stage IIIB/IV Non Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC)

Start date: May 2009
Phase: Phase 1/Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

This is a phase I/IIa open, uncontrolled, international, prospective clinical trial, in an out-patient setting, in patients with stage IIIB/IV NSCLC. The phase I part of the study consists of a dose escalation phase, in which the recommended dose (RD) for the phase IIa part of the study will be established based on the incidence of dose-limiting toxicities (DLT). In the phase IIa part of the study, additional patients will be included at the RD, to confirm the safety and explore the activity of that dose. This study will take place in Switzerland (2 sites) and Germany (11 sites).

NCT ID: NCT00921583 Completed - Dental Implants Clinical Trials

Long-term Examination of Titanium Dental Implants With a TPS Surface: A Prospective 20-year Case Series Study

Start date: June 2009
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

Since 1986, newly developed titanium implants with a TPS surface have been utilized for the treatment of partially edentulous patients with implant supported fixed dental prostheses (FTP). In the beginning, these implant types have been sold by Straumann under the brand name "Bonefit implants", later "ITI Dental Implant System" From the beginning, the first 75 patients have been documented in a prospective case series study, and clinical and radiographic results have been reported at 1-year, 3-years, 5-years and 8-years. The aim of the present study is to examine the long-term outcomes of this original group of patients with at 20 years of clinical function, and to assess the frequency of biological and technical complications during this follow-up period.

NCT ID: NCT00920491 Completed - Clinical trials for Non-specific Complaints

Biomarker-enhanced ED Disposition Decisions

BANC4
Start date: July 2011
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

Patients presenting to emergency departments (ED) with non-specific complaints (NSC) such as "not feeling well", "feeling weak", "being tired", "general deterioration" are a very common and well-known, but poorly studied patient group. The differential diagnosis of NSC is extremely broad ranging from insufficient home care to acute life-threatening conditions. Therefore, the evaluation and diagnostic work-up of these mostly elderly patients with NSC is very time-consuming and not straight-forward. Furthermore, the assessment is complicated by comorbidities, polypharmacy or an altered mental status. For this reason, potentially unnecessary diagnostic efforts are undertaken in order to exclude a serious underlying condition, leading to prolonged throughput times and ED observation unit stays. On the other hand, the patients` condition might be underestimated by ED physicians, which may result in ineffective, delayed or inadequate disposition, as well as poor patient outcomes. BANC (formerly BAUCAS) is a series of clinical studies with the intention to investigate the usefulness of clinical findings and biomarker levels combined for disposition of patients with non-specific complaints presenting to the emergency department.

NCT ID: NCT00920400 Completed - Clinical trials for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases

Diagnostic Value of Fecal Calprotectin in Disorders of the Upper Gastrointestinal Tract

Start date: March 2008
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

Fecal calprotectin is a very sensitive non-invasive inflammation marker in the detection of inflammatory bowel disease and, to a lesser degree, has also proven to be useful in adenomatous polyps, neoplasias, and infectious gastroenteritis. Elevated calprotectin levels can also be found in patients with lesion only in the upper gastrointestinal tract. However, the diagnostic value of calprotectin has never been tested in this setting. The aim of the study is therefore to determine the diagnostic value of fecal calprotectin in patients with diseases of the upper gastrointestinal tract.

NCT ID: NCT00920387 Completed - Anxiety Clinical Trials

Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD)-Assisted Psychotherapy in People With Illness-related Anxiety

Start date: February 2008
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

This study will find out whether psychotherapy combined with lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) is safe and is helpful in people who are anxious because they have a potentially fatal disease. The study will measure anxiety and quality of life before and after people have two sessions with either full or active placebo dose of LSD. They expect LSD-assisted psychotherapy to reduce anxiety and improve quality of life.
