There are about 9403 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Switzerland. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
The administration of vaginal progesterone, in addition to standard tocolysis, will decrease the risk of delivering prematurely and of recurrent preterm labor. We also hypothesize that the reduction in preterm delivery will be associated with a decrease in infant mortality and morbidity.
The investigators plan to conduct a two arm study, to compare failure rates in the central nervous system (CNS) and genital compartment in virologically fully suppressed patients continuing a highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) versus patients switching to ritonavir boosted lopinavir (Kaletra®) HIV-monotherapy. The study is composed of two phases of 48 weeks duration. In addition, neuropsychological tests (Color trial test A 1 and 2; Grooved pegboard; EWIA Digit Symbol form) and evaluation of side effects will be performed.
Any efforts to spare patients with T1 carcinomas of the rectum from low anterior resection or even abdominoperineal resection are linked to the risk of locoregional recurrence of about 10% (range, 0-24). This is tolerated in the view of the morbidity and mortality risk related to transabdominal resection, which is as high as 7-68% and 0-6.5%, respectively. Accordingly, in addition to transanal local excision various adjuvant therapy schemes with chemo- and/or radiotherapy were developed, given the uncertainty about the lymph node stage. Another approach was to identify histological risk criteria in the primary tumor in terms of defining the limits of rectum-sparing therapy. In earlier experimental and clinical studies the investigators researched and applied dorsoposterior extraperitoneal pelviscopy, i.e. perineal access to the soft-tissue areas of the minor pelvis using minimally invasive surgery. in T1 carcinoma of the rectum this technique becomes all the more significant, as the perineal approach makes it possible to perform an endoscopic posterior mesorectal resection (EPMR) in combination with rectum-sparing surgery Thereby the relevant lymphatic field of the lower rectum can be removed and histologically examined. As a consequence EPMR should lower the loco-regional recurrence rate, since the most common causes of such are pre-existent but so far not detectable lymph node metastases besides the incomplete resection of the primary tumor.
Critically ill patients are generally exposed to an increased oxidative stress, which is proportional to the severity of their condition. Endogenous antioxidant (AOX) defenses are depleted particularly in those patients with intense inflammatory response. The hypothesis tested is that early I:V: administration of a combination of AOX micronutrient supplements (Se, Zn, Vit C, Vit E, Vit B1) would improve clinical outcome in selected critically ill patients, by reinforcing the endogenous AOX defenses and reducing organ failure.
258 patients who have been treated for at least 3 months with oral olanzapine, risperidone or quetiapine in the treatment of schizophrenia and currently presenting with metabolic syndrome, will be randomized to: i) aripiprazole for 16 weeks, with flexible dosing within a range of 10 to 30 mg once daily (QD); or ii) continue for 16 weeks on the same atypical antipsychotic treatment prior to the study enrollment.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate migraine headache frequency in subjects who have migraine with aura and a patent foramen ovale (PFO, a slit-like opening between the right and left upper chambers (atria) of the heart which normally closes at or soon after birth) who are randomized to either undergo closure of the patent foramen ovale or continue with standard medical management.
The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of Doppler guided Uterine Artery Occlusion (D-UAO) as treatment for the reduction of fibroid-associated symptoms.
The purpose of this study is to study the safety of single doses and multiple doses of Friulimicin B in healthy volunteers. The level of Friulimicin B will be measured in the subjects blood and urine. One part of the study will assess if Friulimicin B in the plasma of subjects has activity against bacteria.
This 2-arm study was designed to compare the efficacy and safety of bevacizumab (Avastin) in combination with rituximab (MabThera) and CHOP (cyclophosphamide, hydroxydaunorubicin [doxorubicin], Oncovin [vincristine], prednisone) chemotherapy (R-CHOP) versus rituximab plus CHOP chemotherapy (R-CHOP) in previously untreated patients with CD20-positive diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). Patients were randomized to receive 8 cycles of treatment with R-CHOP plus bevacizumab or R-CHOP plus placebo. Treatment with bevacizumab/placebo and R-CHOP was given either on a 2-week or 3-week schedule and bevacizumab was given at a weekly average dose of 5 mg/kg (10 mg/kg for 2-week cycles and 15 mg/kg for 3-week cycles).
The purpose of this clinical trial is to demonstrate the benefit of the immunotherapeutic product GSK1572932A when given to patients with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer, after removal of their tumor. A course of 13 injections will be administered over 27 months. The Protocol Posting has been updated in order to comply with the FDA Amendment Act, Sep 2007.
