SOCKNLEG Compression Stocking Kit : User Friendliness

The investigators aim to evaluate the user friendliness of a newly designed leg compression stocking kit, the SOCKNLEG, compared to a standard leg compression stocking of the same compression strength, the SIGVARIS Cotton. The SOCKNLEG is not yet commercially available, whereas the SIGVARIS Cotton has been successfully commercialized for many years. After an initial screening visit, a computer generated list will allocate the participants in either the SOCKNLEG or the SIGVARIS Cotton group. All participants will try on both study stockings, in the order of their allocated group, and will rate their donning and doffing success with a questionnaire. The patients will then wear only the assigned study stocking of their allocated group, for a day and rate its comfort again at the end of the day. The donning and doffing success will also be rated by the study investigator. Leg volume measurements of the study leg will be taken at each visit to determine edema prevention.

This is a phase II, single centre, randomised, parallel-group, double-blind, three doses, placebo-controlled, exploratory efficacy and safety study. The objective of this study is to investigate the efficacy and safety of a single intrathecal injection of Paracetamol 3% (30 mg/mL) administered at 3 doses to 3 active treatment groups, as compared to placebo, for post-operative analgesia in knee procedures up to 40 min duration performed under spinal anaesthesia with Chloroprocaine HCl 1%.

Time to Peak Effect of Propofol in Children

In order to determine the speed of onset of the anaesthetic propofol in children, investigators will compare the two age groups 1-6 years vs 8-13 years. The primary outcome measure is the time to peak effect of a bolus of proposal, which is measured by analysing the electroencephalogram by using the permutation entropy. Further pharmacodynamic modelling will enable investigators to quantify the difference with age in the hypnotic effect of propofol.

People with diabetes still smoke at equivalent rates as non-diabetics. There is lack of evidence regarding interventions for smoking cessation among individuals with diabetes. The aim of this project is to assess the 12 months efficacy of a smoking cessation intervention tailored to diabetes and gender specificities, in a population of 500 smokers with type 2 diabetes. The secondary objectives are to assess the impact of smoking cessation on anthropometric outcomes, diabetes control and renal function and fecal microbiota.

Study to Evaluate the Safety, Tolerability, Pharmacokinetics and Ex-vivo Antitubercular Activity of PBTZ169 Formulation

This is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, single ascending dose study conducted at one study center in Switzerland. Four (4) panels (A, B, C and D) of 8 male subjects (6 active and 2 placebo) each undergoing 2 investigation periods and receiving either single doses of PBTZ169 at increasing dose levels or a matching placebo. Subjects will participate in only one panel. Blocks of 4 subjects (3 under active treatment, 1 under placebo) will be investigated in parallel. Panels A and B are interleaved. Safety will be assessed throughout the study; serial ECGs and serial blood samples will be collected for the safety and PK assessment of PBTZ169. Dose escalation will be allowed once the Trial Safety Board has determined that adequate safety and tolerability after panel B and panel C completion has been demonstrated to permit proceeding to the next panel.
