There are about 9403 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Switzerland. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
Phonak Hearing Systems pass through different development and study stages. At an early stage, feasibility studies are conducted to investigate new algorithms, features and functions in an isolated manner. If the benefit is proven, their performance is then investigated regarding interdependency between all available algorithms, features and functions running in parallel in a hearing aid (pivotal/pre-validation studies) and, as a result, they get optimized. Afterwards, and prior to product launch, the Phonak Hearing Systems undergo a final quality control in terms of clinical trials. This is a pre-validation study, investigating optimized algorithms, features, functions and wearing comfort. This will be a clinical evaluation which will be conducted mono centric at Sonova AG Headquarters based in Stäfa (Switzerland).
--> This is a substudy of the main ESTxENDS trial (NCT03589989). Pulmonary function outcomes should be considered secondary outcomes of the main smoking cessation outcome formulated in NCT03589989. Cigarette smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in Switzerland and still more than a quarter of the Swiss population smokes cigarettes. Recently, electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS; also called vaporizer, e-cigarette or electronic cigarette) have become popular with smokers who want to stop smoking or reduce their exposure to inhaled chemicals since ENDS use appears to be safer than tobacco smoking. The inhaled ENDS aerosol appears safe in laboratory conditions, its long-term effects on pulmonary function remains unknown. This study will therefore investigate the impact of ENDS on lung function in smokers, who attempt to quit using ENDS compared with smokers, receiving only smoking cessation counseling with nicotine replacement therapy (NRT). Multiple breath washout (MBW) is an established technique for assessment of peripheral airway function in pediatrics and its use is emerging in adult medicine, as it offers a better sensitivity to assess small airway disease before large airway involvement can be detected using conventional pulmonary function tests (PFT - spirometry, body plethysmography and diffusing capacity test). Preliminary evidence from limited studies suggest MBW parameters (LCI, Scond, Sacin) can be impaired in smokers with normal lung function and improve after smoking abstinence. Primary objective of this substudy is to assess changes in LCI from baseline to 6 months post target quit date (TQD) in cigarette smokers randomized to the intervention group compared to the control group. For the main ESTxENDS trial (NCT03589989), cigarette smokers motivated to quit smoking cigarettes will be included. Participants in the intervention group will receive an ENDS and nicotine-containing e-liquids, which they will be allowed to use ad libitum. Additionally, they will receive standard of care, i.e. smoking cessation counseling and encouragement to use NRT. Smoking cessation counseling will be provided in person at the first clinical visit and then over the phone at the target quit date and again at week 1, 2, 4 and 8 after the target quit date. Participants in the control group will receive only standard of care. All participants will be followed over a 6-month period. After 6 months, participants will be asked to come to a final clinical visit.
Cochlear implants (CI) are used to help patients with severe to profound hearing loss regain auditory perception by electrical stimulation of the auditory nerve. The electrical stimulation consists of trains of charge balanced, biphasic current pulses. For each patient, individual stimulation parameters (perception threshold, most comfortable level - MCL) are determined for each electrode during fitting sessions. However, an important parameter, pulse duration, cannot be individualized for each electrode. There are certain circumstances where it would be advantageous to have the possibility of introducing variable pulse durations into the fitting strategy (e.g., optimization of energy consumption, development of combined cochleo-vestibular implants). However, since in current CI systems pulses are transmitted sequentially, introducing varying pulse widths would also introduce "gaps" (zero-stimulation periods) into the stimulation profile. The influence of such auditory gaps on speech recognition and on the quality of hearing has not been explored yet, but can be investigated in current CI users. The objective of this study is to investigate the impact of time-fixed gaps (zero-stimulation periods) in the cochlear stimulation strategy on speech performance and hearing quality.
The purpose of this study it to assess whether the continuous glucose monitor system Dexcom G6® can be reliably used for perioperative glucose monitoring in 20 prediabetic or diabetic patients undergoing abdominal surgery in terms of data continuity, accuracy and patient tolerability.
The purpose of the NISCI trial is to test if an antibody therapy can improve movement and quality of life of tetraplegic patients. A previous trial showed this treatment is safe and well accepted. This is a placebo controlled, randomized, double blind, multicenter, multinational study to assess the safety, tolerability, feasibility and preliminary efficacy of early (within 4-28 days post injury) initiation of treatment with repeated bolus injections of NG-101 in cervical acute SCI patients. The study has 3 phases: screening/baseline Phase, treatment phase, and a follow-up phase. The study design will allow simultaneous enrolment of patients with complete or incomplete SCI. Enrolment and stratification of the patients is based and individualized prediction of upper limb outcomes. For further information please visit NISCI website: https://nisci-2020.eu
The laying of a naso-gastric tube is an extremely common event in intensive medicine; although standard naso-gastric tube laying is performed at the patient's bedside, this procedure is not without risk. Through the use of methods already used in the clinical field, of daily use, we want to identify the threshold value between tracheal and esophageal etCO2 (group A) and the threshold value between gastric and esophageal pH (group B).
Neuropeptide Y (NPY) activates the sympathetic and vagal nervous systems through the Y1 and Y2 receptors. This double-blind placebo-controlled crossover study investigated the sympathovagal balance during three exercises on a cycloergometer in healthy volunteers treated with saxagliptin (DPP4 inhibitor).
ASV mode of ventilation is an automatic mode with closed-loop control used for mechanical invasive ventilation in intubated patients. It has been studied in adult patients but not in children. This interventional physiology study will include 40 children on mechanical invasive ventilation.
The Investigators' knowledge about pre-hospital emergency intubations is still limited. Various factors such as the average and the normal range of intubation time are still unknown. Since its launch Rega videotapes all intubation attempts with the C-MAC videolaryngoscope. The investigators prospectively analysed all routinely recorded intubation videos during one year performed by the Rega crews. The investigators analysed different parameters such as first pass success rate and the time to successfully intubate alongside with others. The goal was to find out more about this difficult procedure, about the problems which regularly occur and on what should be put particular emphasis during training.
This retrospective study investigates surgical treatment of acetabular fractures in elderly patients (>60 years of age), either undergoing joint-preserving surgery or joint- replacement. 1 year- outcome with regard to mobility and autonomy is assessed.
