Carpal tunnel syndrome is one of the major known disorders of the wrist and hand that causes pain, tingling sensations, weakness of the hand and functional limitations in daily tasks (for example: handling objects with the hands). In the early stages of the syndrome, some individuals may benefit from wearing wrist splint or cortisone infiltration. For those with ongoing symptoms, surgery is often indicated. However, some individuals may experience worsening of their condition while waiting for surgery. To aid those individuals, physiotherapists often recommend exercises that aim to "glide" the nerve inside the arm. Specifically, these exercises involve arm and neck movements in a specific order, with the aim of improving the motion of the median nerve in relation with its environment. These nerve gliding exercises may have a favorable effect on the median nerve and may improve pain and upper limb functional abilities. In this study, the investigators aim to evaluated the feasibility and effects of a preoperative nerve gliding exercises completed by individuals undergoing surgery
To evaluate the safety and tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics, including Factor XI activity and antigen levels, activated partial thromboplastin time, prothrombin time and international normalized ratio of single and multiple doses of Factor XI antisense inhibitor administered subcutaneously to healthy volunteers.
This is a single centre, single arm, prospective feasibility study that aims to see whether magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as a source of image guidance before each radiation treatment fraction is feasible, and also if it may provide information that could potentially be used during the treatment to improve the radiation treatment plan. Patients will have 5 MRIs with each of their RT sessions. If patients' RT treatment will consist of more than 5 fractions, only 5 MRIs will be done with any 5 RT fractions. Patients will be completing a short questionnaire at the end of each MRI. A patient questionnaire will also be completed at the end of the study to assess for patient satisfaction. There will be 30 evaluable patients enrolled to the study.
PrEvention of posttraumatic contractuRes with Ketotifen 2 (PERK 2) is a Phase III randomized, controlled, double blinded multicenter trial with 3 parallel groups (Ketotifen 2 mg or 5 mg or lactose placebo twice daily orally for 6 weeks) and a primary endpoint of elbow extension-flexion range of motion (ROM) arc at 12 weeks post-randomization.
Our lab has developed an artificial pancreas system called the McGill Artificial Pancreas (MAP) for automating insulin delivery. Using patient's basal-bolus parameters (basal rates and ICRs), the artificial pancreas involves a control algorithm that modulates insulin infusion based on the sensor readings and meal information. However, because basal-bolus parameters are difficult to optimize, proper glycemic control is not always achieved. Therefore, we have developed a learning algorithm that estimates optimal basal-bolus parameters using data over several days. The algorithm examines daily glucose, insulin, and meal data to make changes in patients' basal rates and ICRs. The objective of this project is to test our artificial pancreas system with and without the learning algorithm using a randomized crossover design in between 31 and 67 children and adolescents at camp Carowanis. We hypothesize that adding a learning algorithm to the artificial pancreas will improve the performance of our artificial pancreas system by increasing the time spent in target glucose range (4mmol/L - 10mmol/L) compared with the artificial pancreas system alone.
To investigate if the inflammatory protein, high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1), along with other inflammatory mediators, is elevated in pediatric patients with congenital heart disease (CHD) and pulmonary hypertension as compared to those with CHD alone, or with healthy controls.
This phase II trial studies how well veliparib, radiation therapy, and temozolomide work in treating patients with newly diagnosed malignant glioma without H3 K27M or BRAFV600 mutations. Poly adenosine diphosphate (ADP) ribose polymerases (PARPs) are proteins that help repair DNA mutations. PARP inhibitors, such as veliparib, can keep PARP from working, so tumor cells can't repair themselves, and they may stop growing. Radiation therapy uses high energy x-rays to kill tumor cells and shrink tumors. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as temozolomide, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Giving veliparib, radiation therapy, and temozolomide may work better in treating patients with newly diagnosed malignant glioma without H3 K27M or BRAFV600 mutations compared to radiation therapy and temozolomide alone.
Driving is a set of complex tasks and requires use of multiple cognitive domains, including attention, planning, and memory. In laboratory studies, the main psychoactive component in cannabis, delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), was shown to impair short-term memory, attention, reaction time, tracking, and coordination, resulting, for instance, in significantly more deviations from the lane and increased break latency. Surveys and epidemiological studies suggest that cannabis consumption is associated with increased risks of collision. The current study aims to evaluate individual driving behavior and performance on various neurocognitive tests and their correlated neural networks while under the influence of cannabis and while sober. The investigators will use the STISIM driving simulator, which is fully MRI compatible, to study brain activation, while participants are performing various driving maneuvers. The goals of the study are: 1. identify driving performance and patterns in brain activation associated with cannabis exposure and compare them to brain patterns of the same participants while sober; 2. compare participant's performance on cognitive tasks while under the influence of cannabis and sober; 3. look for correlations between concentration of cannabinoids in the participants' blood and their driving performance and performance on cognitive tasks; 4. correlate demographic variables and personal history (e.g. tolerance to drug) with performance and brain activation while driving under the influence of cannabis.
The primary objective of this study is to evaluate HIV-1 RNA suppression, defined as HIV-1 RNA <50 copies/mL, at 12 months after initiating or switching to Bictegravir/ Emtricitabine/Tenofovir alafenamide (B/F/TAF).
