Lactobacillus Reuteri DSM 17938 Versus Placebo in the Treatment of Infantile Colic

Infantile colic is a common medical condition which remains a frustrating problem for parents and health care providers with no clear treatment guidelines. To fill the void in existing literature, we present a protocol to examine whether probiotics are effective in decreasing infantile colic symptoms when compared to placebo treatment. We hypothesize that oral administration of the probiotic L. reuteri DSM 17938 will reduce symptoms of infantile colic in breastfed infants in comparison to placebo. An interim analysis will be conducted after 50 infants randomized to monitor both safety and efficacy.

Phase-I Study of Radiolabeled DFH-12 (PulmoBind) for Molecular Imaging of the Pulmonary Circulation

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) can be the result of various clinical conditions. It may be idiopathic or associated with various cardiovascular and lung disorders. Currently there is no test that can non-invasively detect abnormalities of the pulmonary circulation. There is a growing need for a non-invasive method to detect PH. There currently exists only ne agent approved in Canada for clinical imaging of the pulmonary circulation, 99mTc-labeled macroaggregates. This agent is exclusively used for the diagnosis of physical defects of the circulation due to pulmonary embolus. This agent is larger than small pulmonary vessels, limiting its sensitivity to detect small vascular defects, as well as potential infectious risks since albumin macroaggregates are derived from human albumin. There is need then for new lung tracers that could provide a greater safety profile while enabling functional as well as anatomical imaging of the pulmonary circulation. DFH-12 (PulmoBind) is a peptide derived from human adrenomedullin (hAMI-52). Hence the development of this novel AM derivative, PulmoBind, for molecular imaging of the pulmonary circulation. PulmoBind is labeled with 99mTc, the most commonly used imaging isotope in nuclear medicine.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate blood levels of solifenacin succinate (the study drug) in children with neurogenic detrusor overactivity after taking a single oral dose. If the bladder contracts strongly and without warning, the muscles surrounding the urethra (detrusor muscles) may not be able to keep urine from passing. This may happen as a consequence of spinal cord defects, and then is called neurogenic detrusor overactivity.

Safety & Effectiveness Study of the Hydrus Microstent for Lowering IOP in Glaucoma Patients Undergoing Cataract Surgery (HORIZON)

This clinical trial is a prospective, randomized, controlled, multicenter, study. After informed consent is obtained, patients will be evaluated for eligibility based on glaucoma severity, eye health, and visual acuity. Following successful screening, use of all topical glaucoma medications will be stopped for a period of "washout" to establish a qualifying medication-free intraocular pressure (IOP) value. Clinical follow up will be scheduled over the course of the 24 month study, and examinations will be repeated to monitor eye health. At the 1 and 2 year follow up, those patients on ocular hypotensive medications will be instructed to washout, and then have the diurnal (IOP taken in the morning, mid-day, and afternoon in the same day) IOP evaluation. Annual follow up will occur up to 5 years. The primary effectiveness endpoint is a decrease in diurnal IOP from baseline compared to the 24 months diurnal IOP following medication washout.

Clinical Experience With the Zimmer Trabecular Metal (TM) Glenoid in Total Shoulder Arthroplasty

The objective of this randomized controlled study is to obtain outcomes data on the Zimmer TM glenoid component by analysis of standard scoring systems and radiographs in comparison to the cemented glenoid component. In addition, the investigators plan to provide cost analysis based on the economic data collected to justify the cost difference between both implants. Patients with acceptable glenoid bone stock will be randomized into two groups to be treated with either a TM Glenoid or cemented glenoid component with minimum 2 years follow-up; maximum 10 years follow-up. Hypothesis: The early and long-term clinical outcomes and radiographic analysis of the TM glenoid components are superior to the cemented glenoid components in total shoulder arthroplasty patients.
