This study was to assess the safety and efficacy of sofosbuvir in combination with ribavirin (RBV) administered for 12 or 16 weeks in participants with genotypes 2 or 3 hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection as assessed by the proportion of participants with sustained virologic response (SVR) 12 weeks after discontinuation of therapy (SVR12).
In this study the investigators are conducting research to determine whether a new optical device using polarization reflectance spectroscopy can help doctors or dentists identify abnormalities in the mouth that require follow-up. To establish this, measurements are needed from a large number of individuals with different abnormalities in their mouth. The investigators believe the proposed approach has potential to improve and enable mass screening for precancerous and early cancers of the oral cavity by improving the predictive value of oral cavity exams, particularly for less experienced practitioners. The information from this study will be compared to results from the pathology report of the tissue taken from your mouth. Hypothesis: 1. Polarized reflectance spectroscopy can distinguish high-risk oral lesion from normal and reactive oral lesions. 2. Polarized reflectance spectroscopy can capture low-grade oral lesions that have characteristics associated with a high risk of progression to cancer.
The purpose of this study is to assess the efficacy of sirukumab as measured by the reduction of the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and inhibition of radiographic progression in patients with active RA who are unresponsive to treatment with disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARD).
Cat allergy is an increasingly prevalent condition affecting 10-15% of patients with allergic rhinoconjunctivitis and/or asthma. The purpose of this optional observational follow-on study is to further evaluate rhinoconjunctivitis symptoms on exposure to cat dander in the EEC among subjects who completed all dosing visits in study CP005 and all visits in study CP005A approximately two years after the start of treatment.

This proposal outlines the design of a cluster randomized controlled trial to compare the effectiveness of a new approach to integrating smoking cessation services into routine interactions with patients in the primary care setting using an adaptation of the Ottawa Model for Smoking Cessation (OMSC). The OMSC aims to systematically identify the smoking status of all patients, provide brief cessation advice, and offer evidence-based cessation support to those interested in embarking on a quit attempt. This study will provide important new evidence to assist with the development of a more comprehensive cessation system in the province of Ontario and across Canada.
The study will compare the rewarming effectiveness of heat donation through the head or the torso during rewarming of mildly hypothermic subjects. Warming will be accomplished through either forced-air warming or using a charcoal heater; both units are commonly used for warming. Parenteral nutrition (PN) is the provision of nutrients via the intravenous route. Parenteral nutrition associated metabolic bone disease (MBD) was first described in children in the 1980s. Since then, there has been little to no research into the underlying relationship and as a result, little evidence on which to base clinical care. In adults, MBD is associated with increased fractures. At the Hospital for Sick children in Toronto, an intestinal failure program has been set up since 2003. This is the only intestinal failure program in Canada and receives country wide referrals. Most of the patients have short bowel syndrome (SBS) and require PN for prolonged periods, or for life. About 90% of these patients have MBD, and some have had bone fractures. An understanding of the etiology of MBD would provide information to guide care, and prevent this condition. Funding for this area of research however is challenging because intestinal failure requiring long term PN is a rare condition, accounting for approximately 200 - 300 children in all of Canada. The goal of this study therefore is to gather pilot data on markers of MBD in children on long term PN, and to compare these markers to age and gender matched control patients who are fed by mouth or feeding tube. The information gathered from this study will help us begin to understand what is actually happening in the bones of children on long term PN and will form the basis for future studies and improved clinical care.
The purpose of this study is to determine whether injections with increasing doses (up to 800 units) of Botulinum toxin type A into muscles of the leg and/or arm are safe and effective in treating patients with spasticity on one body side due to cerebral causes.
