PART1 Participants in Part 1 (Run-in-Phase) of study will receive tocilizumab (TCZ) (RoActemra/Actemra) 12 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) or 8 mg/kg intravenously (IV) every 2 weeks (Q2W) for up to 24 weeks. Participants who experience a laboratory abnormality during Part 1 may be eligible to move into Part 2 of the study. PART 2 This open-label Phase IV study will evaluate the efficacy, safety, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and immunogenicity of tocilizumab in reduced dose frequency in participants with adequately controlled systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis who have experienced a laboratory abnormality on twice weekly tocilizumab dosing, that has since resolved. Participants will receive tocilizumab 12 mg/kg or 8 mg/kg intravenously every 3 weeks. After 5 consecutive infusions, participants who experience an event of neutropenia, thrombocytopenia or liver enzyme abnormality will move to every 4 weeks tocilizumab administration. Anticipated time on study treatment is 52 weeks.
Sleep is a biological process essential for health. Being hospitalized can exacerbate common sleep difficulties in children. Factors that contribute to sleep disturbances during hospitalization include environmental, physiological, and psychological factors. Although sleep interventions exist for healthy children in the community, interventions aimed at hospitalized children need to be developed and piloted with rigorous evaluative methods. The primary purpose of this study is to examine the feasibility and acceptability of the RELAX TO SLEEP program on hospitalized children. Although this study is a pilot study, comparisons will be made to examine sleep outcomes between the intervention group and the control group including: total nocturnal (19h30-07h29), number of nighttime awakenings, longest stretch of nocturnal sleep, and total daytime (07h30-19h29) sleep. Other comparisons include anxiety levels and the development of post-hospital maladaptive behaviours.
The primary objective of this study is to identify osteoarthritis (OA) structural changes, as assessed by MRI, that best correlate with the presence of neuropathic pain (NP) using the PainDETECT questionnaire (PainDETECT ≥ 13) on a population of patients with OA of the knee experiencing moderate to severe pain (VAS ≥ 40 mm).
This observational registry will characterize contemporary stroke prevention in Canadian adults with atrial fibrillation, and provide clarity in understanding physician preferences for the various oral anticoagulants available in the Canadian marketplace. This study will determine the patient profiles of those selected for the various therapies available in Canada and provide an understanding of the factors involved in drug selection and management.

This study will compare the effectiveness of denosumab treatment every 6 months with once yearly zoledronic acid treatment on bone mineral density (BMD) at various skeletal sites.
Patients from the Joint Replacement Institute scheduled to undergo primary total knee replacement surgery (TKR) will be invited to participate at the Pre Admission Clinic (PAC), University Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre. Baseline questionnaires of preoperative measures and demographic information and a cost analysis will be explored at the PAC for each patient. Patients will be randomized with the treatment group receiving access to a web-based, e-learning intervention. Postoperatively all patients will be asked to complete questionnaires at 6 weeks, 3 months and 1 year after their TKR surgery. Objectives The first primary objective is to compare the effect of two methods of providing patient education on expectations of surgical outcome in total knee replacement (TKR) patients. The second objective is to compare the effect of two methods of providing patient education on satisfaction with surgical outcome in TKR patients. The intervention of interest is an e-learning education program that spans both the preoperative and postoperative time period. The control condition will be the current method of patient education provided at the hospital study site. Hypothesis: Objective One More change in patient expectations will occur between preoperative and one year postoperative in the e-learning educational intervention group. Hypothesis: Objective Two More change in patient satisfaction will occur between preoperative and one year postoperative in the e-learning educational intervention group.
Pulse oximetry is a standard non-invasive method of measuring blood oxygen saturation (SpO2). In developing countries, pulse oximeters are rare because of expense and electricity requirements. Our ECEM group has developed the Phone Oximeter, which uses a cell phone (which are widely available in developing countries) to compute and analyze information from a pulse oximeter sensor. To further reduce costs, we have developed an oximeter sensor (AudioOx) that plugs into the audio jack of a standard cell phone. This study aims to calibrate the AudioOx by exposing 30 healthy adult volunteers to various altitudes in UBC's hypoxia chamber.
