There are about 10004 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Brazil. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
Introduction: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is an important health condition of the population and its prevalence continues to grow due to population aging, economic development and urbanization. The exercise is an important factor of prevention and control, thereby decreasing the risk of metabolic diseases, cardiovascular diseases and improving the functionality of the patient with diabetes. Objective: Evaluate the response of resistance training associated with whole-body vibration on peripheral circulation and functional performance of elderly with type 2 diabetes. Methods: This is a clinical trial study, controlled, randomized and blinded, which will follow the guidelines established by the Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT). Patients will be recruited in the light of the eligibility criteria and randomly divided into 3 groups: resistance training associated with whole body vibration (G1), resistance training associated with vibration sham (G2) and control group-guidelines about foot care (GC), establishing 36 treatment sessions, three times a week for the G1 and G2.
The objectives of the protocol are to determine if a structured cognitive-behavioral interventional counseling of pregnant women can limit acquisition of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) during pregnancy that we believe, will in turn decrease the incidence of congenital HCMV infections in this highly seroimmune population. Previously, investigators have demonstrated the success of a similar approach in pregnant women without previous evidence of HCMV infection (non-immune women) but to date, there is no evidence that such an approach will alter the incidence of congenital HCMV infections in seroimmune women. This protocol will take advantage of recently derived data in this maternal population that has identified sources HCMV exposure in women in this population and thus provided new insight into targeted counseling interventions that could limit maternal acquisition of HCMV. The primary endpoints of this study will be a 50% reduction in the overall incidence of congenital HCMV infections in this maternal population with secondary endpoints being efficient uptake of behavioral recommendations and modifications of simple hygiene behaviors that have previously been shown to decrease exposure and acquisition of HCMV.
In dentistry, one of the most common surgical procedures is the removal of included third molars. This surgery generates great morbidity to patients for causing pain, edema and trismus due to surgical trauma. The use of photobiomodulation (PBM) (low-power laser or light emitting diode - LED) in the postoperative of these procedures has shown excellent results in the control of postoperative sequelae. The objective of the present study is to evaluate the effectiveness of PBM with LED in the control of pain, facial edema, trismus and quality of life resulting from the extraction of retained lower third molars. A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial involving 34 adult patients, who search the Discipline of Buccomaxillofacial Surgery and Traumatology (CTBMF) II of FO-UFRGS for the removal of included lower third molars will be conducted. Before and after the surgeries, the facial and mouth opening measurements of all patients will be done. Immediately after the surgeries, the patients will be randomized by means of envelopes in two groups. In the LED group the patients will receive daily LED applications (intra oral with 660nm and extra oral with 850nm) from the immediate postoperative to 7 days after the surgical procedure. In the control group the patients will be treated in the same way as in the LED group, however, the person in charge of the application will simulate intraoral and extraoral irradiation with the LED kept off. Pain (EVA and NRS-101), postoperative edema, trismus, temperature, dysphagia and hematomas, as well as the impact of the surgical procedure on patients' quality of life will be evaluated after 1, 2, 5 and 7 days. For the analysis of the oral health impact profile (OHIP-14 Questionnaire) and anxiety analysis (Beck anxiety inventory -BAI) the questionnaires will be applied preoperatively and 7 days after treatment. Initial descriptive analyzes will be performed considering all variables measured in the study, both quantitative (mean and standard deviation) and qualitative (frequencies and percentages). Later, the appropriate statistical tests will be applied for each specific analysis. In all tests, the significance level of 5% probability or the corresponding p-value will be adopted. All analyzes will be performed using the statistical software SAS for Windows, version 9.1.3.
INTRODUCTION: Mental practice (MP) and action observation (AO) are characterized as cognitive strategies that contribute to motor planning and learning in diverse populations. Individuals with Parkinson's Disease (PD) are recent targets, since, with disease progression, they need external strategies to aid in motor organization. However, there is still no evidence of the efficacy of MP and AO in the gait of PD. OBJECTIVES: To compare the effects of physical practice preceded by MP and AO on gait performance in individuals with Idiopathic PD (IPD). METHODS: A controlled, randomized, single-blind clinical trial with 66 individuals with IPD, aged between 50 and 75 years, without cognitive deficit and in the moderate phase of the disease will be performed. For the inclusion and characterization of the sample, the following instruments / equipment will be used: (1) Identification form (sociodemographic, clinical and anthropometric aspects); (2) Mini Mental State Examination and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (cognitive level); (3) Hoehn and Yahr Scale (level of physical disability); (4) Revised Movement Imagery Questionnaire (sharpness of the mental image); (5) Qualisys Motion Capture Systems® (gait kinematics); (6) Emotiv Epoc + (electroencephalographic activity); (7) Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale - UPDRS (motor function and activities of daily living); (8) Timed Up and Go Test - TUG Test (mobility); and (9) Parkinson's Disease Questionnaire - PDQ-39 (quality of life).Participants included will be randomly assigned to two groups: experimental (n = 33), who will participate in MP + AO and physical gait practice; and control group (n = 33), who will participate only in the physical practice of gait. Both groups will be submitted to 12 training sessions (3x / week, for 4 weeks) and will be reevaluated 10 minutes, 7 days and 30 days after the last training session with respect to items (4), (5), (6) and (8) of the evaluation. Primary outcomes will be velocity, stride length and range of motion of the hip and the secondary ones will be sharpness of the mental image, electroencephalographic activity and performance in the TUG Test. The normality in the data distribution will be verified through the Shapiro-Wilk test. The "t" test and the Mann-Whitney test will be used to verify the homogeneity of the groups in the baseline. A repeated measures ANOVA will verify the interaction between the groups at the moments observed.
The investigators developed a web-based survey to assess knowledge, attitudes and practice of health care professionals about patient-ventilator asynchrony.
The aim of this study is through a randomized clinical trial, double blind, split-mouth, evaluate the success rate (retention rate and dental sensibility) of temporary dental crown cemented on vital teeth. The composition of the cement (Based on calcium hydroxide; and based on mineral trioxide aggregate) will be evaluated. Data will be collected, tabulated and submitted to statistical analysis.
Whether a mapping algorithm "Ripple-mapping" is able to rapidly identify the areas of long-duration multicomponent electrograms which constitute the targets for ablation for an automated strategy remains to be assessed.
Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) of immunosuppressive drugs is used to improve the immunosuppressive effect while minimizing the toxicity related to exposition to high serum levels. Although TDM is widely used in clinical practice, a significant number of kidney transplant recipients have acute allograft rejection in the first year after transplantation. To improve the use of immunosuppressive drugs, new approaches of TDM have been developed. Monitoring drug concentrations at lymphocytes of peripheral blood is considering promising because it indicates the availability of the drug directly in the target sites of immunosuppression. The present study intends to establish the concentration profile of tacrolimus in the peripheral blood in parallel with the concentration profile inside T and B lymphocytes of peripheral blood of kidney transplant recipients, and correlates them with the expected pharmacological effects. The pharmacological effects of tacrolimus in calcineurin dependent and calcineurin independent (mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) dependent) activation pathways will be assessed by measuring activated nuclear factor of activated T cells (NFAT) and p38, respectively, by flow cytometry. The expression of interleukin (IL) - 2 and IL-10 by T and B lymphocytes, respectively, will be also used to monitoring the pharmacodynamic effects of tacrolimus.
One-center randomized, three-arm, parallel, superiority, controlled trial in 132 elderly outpatients with type 2 diabetes. Two different combined exercise training doses (300min/week vs 150min/week) will be compared against usual care. The entire study length will last 24 weeks, and assessments will be conducted at baseline, previously to the group allocation, at 12 weeks and at 24 weeks just after the treatments' end. The study's primary outcome is the glycated hemoglobin level at 24 weeks. Secondary outcomes of clinical relevance to type 2 diabetes and elderlies will also be acquired.
The study is a two-arm, parallel, randomized clinical trial. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of automated mobile phone text message-based intervention for secondary prevention after acute coronary syndrome hospitalization. Text messages will include information about lifestyle modifications, medication adherence and cardiovascular risk factor control. The participants will be randomized into intervention and control groups in a 1:1 ratio. The intervention group will receive 4 pre-designed and semi-personalized text messages per week in addition to usual care for 6 months, while the control group will receive usual care.
