There are about 13446 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Belgium. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
Hypothesis: Electrical stimulation of the abdominal vagus nerve has anti-inflammatory effects which lead to a faster postoperative recovery after abdominal surgery. Aims: In the present study, the investigators want evaluate the anti-inflammatory effect of peroperative electrical stimulation of the vagus nerve. In addition, the investigators want to determine whether vagus nerve stimulation leads to a faster postoperative recovery. To this end, the following aims are formulated: 1. to determine whether vagus nerve stimulation leads to an improvement in gastrointestinal transit using radiological testing 2. to evaluate whether electrical stimulation of the vagus nerve leads to clinical improvement (daily questionnaire) 3. to show that electrical stimulation of the intra-abdominal vagus nerve reduces the inflammatory response to abdominal surgery
With an efficient epidural analgesia the physiological effects of pain are disabled during labor. Pain may cause an increase of minute volume, oxygen consumption and a decrease of paCO2 (Arterial CO2 pressure). The study will evaluate the lung function before and after labor with and without epidural analgesia. With more efficient breathing, the occurence of atelectasis should be reduced; this effect will be investigated in these settings for the first time with the electrical impedance tomography, which is a completely non-invasive measure.
The purpose of this protocol is to generate a set of data that will be analysed by integrated systems biology approach, for validation in subsequent clinical trials or in animal models. 240 healthy participants (18-45y) will be enrolled, 228 will be administered a dose of Fluad on Day 0, 12 will receive a placebo on Day 0.
The aim of the trial is to identify any systematic effect of cohesiveness on the efficacy of swallowing in patients having dysphagia problems.
This studies aims to investigate the effect of a probiotics in peri-implantitis patients as an adjunct to non-surgical therapy.
This was a multicenter, open-label extension (OLE) Phase II study designed to evaluate the long-term efficacy and safety of ALX-0061 (i.e., vobarilizumab) administered subcutaneously (s.c.) in subjects with active rheumatoid arthritis (RA) who had completed the treatment and assessment period of one of the preceding Phase IIb studies with ALX-0061 (ALX0061-C201 and ALX0061-C202; placebo and ALX-0061 treatment arms only), and who achieved at least 20% improvement in swollen joint count (SJC) and/or tender joint count (TJC) (66/68 counts) compared to Baseline at the final visit of the preceding study (i.e., Week 24 for Study ALX0061-C201 and Week 12 for Study ALX0061-C202).
The ovarian surface, the Fallopian tubes, the uterine cavity and the peritoneal cavity all together form a communicating compartment. The physiologic function of the ciliated lining of the tubes is to transport the egg, after ovulation, into the uterine cavity. Thus, making it very likely that exfoliated cells from pathologic changes of the ovarian surface and Fallopian tube lining will be present in a lavage from the uterine cavity. The proof of concept that malignant cells from the upper genital tract get transported even into the lower genital tract was recently published by Kind I. et al. Liquid-based cervical cytology allows not only cytological evaluation but also collection of DNA. A panel of genes that are commonly mutated in endometrial and ovarian cancers was assembled with new whole-exome sequencing data from 22 endometrial cancers and previously published data on other tumour types, including mutations in the TP53 gene. This panel was used to search for mutations in 24 endometrial and 22 ovarian cancers and identified mutations in all 46 samples. With a sensitive massively parallel sequencing method, it was possible to identify the same mutations in the DNA from liquid Pap smear specimens in 100% of endometrial cancers (24 of 24) and in 41% of ovarian cancers (9 of 22). In the current project the investigators will study the specificity and sensitivity of the lavage of uterine cavity and proximal tubes as a test to differentiate between malign and benign ovarian tumours. The investigators aim to detect cells from EOCs or genetic material from those cells in the lavage.
The purpose of this study is to determine whether a top-down treatment approach, prescribing infliximab (IFX) and azathioprine (AZA) at diagnose, yields better outcome in comparison to the usual step-up treatment approach, starting with prednison and AZA or exclusive enteral nutrition (EEN) and AZA, in moderate-to-severe pediatric Crohn's disease (CD) patients.
The main purpose of this Phase I study was to test MSB0011359C (M7824) at different dose levels to see if it is safe and well tolerated when given once every 2 weeks. Phase I means the study drug has not previously been given to humans or has only been given to a limited number of people, although it has been extensively studied in animals. Based on this information, it is hoped to find out which dose could be best for the treatment of patients. There are two parts of this research study: a dose-escalation part and an expansion part. Dose escalation means that the first people taking part in the study will receive low doses of the study drug, and as more people take part, the additional participants will receive a higher dose. This is done to find the safest dose for the study drug. Expansion means that after the dose-escalation part of the study has looked at the safety and effectiveness of different doses, many more people will be invited to take part in the study and will receive the study drug at the safest dose. Additional purposes of the study are to find out whether the study drug has anti-cancer effects and how the study drug is processed by the body.
MSC2490484A or M3814 is an investigational drug that is being evaluated for the treatment of subjects with locally advanced tumors. The main purposes of this study are to determine the safety, the tolerability and the efficacy of MSC2490484A in combination with radiotherapy and in combination with chemoradiotherapy (Radiotherapy + cisplatin).
