Interface Selection for Adaptive Servo Ventilation

The purpose of this study is to compare the effects of nasal and oronasal interfaces during ASV treatment on sleep efficiency and sleep architecture. Therefore, patients starting treatment with ASV, will be randomized between two groups. In the first group, patients will use a nasal interface during the first night and an oronasal interface during the second night. In the second group, patients will use an oronasal mask first and a nasal mask during the second night. The results of this trial will have major impact on future clinical practice as it would deliver prediction rules to choose the correct interface immediately.

Complications From the Use of Calcium Phosphate Paste in Mandibular Lengthening Osteotomies

Structural and Functional Effects of High Intensity Training (HIT) Program in Patients With Non-specific Chronic Low Back Pain

Low back pain is a common disorder, occurring worldwide in both males and females in all age groups. The prevalence is higher in females and the incidence peaks between 30 and 65 years. It is currently the most frequent musculoskeletal cause of functional disability and it has a major socio-economic impact on today's society. Although a small percentage of persons with low back pain can be diagnosed with a specific underlying cause, almost 90% of persons with low back pain present with symptoms of nonspecific origin. A part of these symptoms are only of short duration, but 23% of all people will develop nonspecific chronic low back pain (NSCLBP). Exercise therapy (ET) is currently an important component in the treatment of NSCLBP. Previous studies analysed the effects of various modes of exercise therapy, such as motor control therapy, core stability training and aerobic conditioning training. However, therapy outcomes can be low, and guidelines in favour of using a specific program are contradictory. It thus still remains unclear which therapy modality is best suited. Furthermore, no recommendations are available about optimal training intensities during rehabilitation of persons with NSCLBP. Since as well aerobic as muscular deconditioning are apparent in persons with chronic low back pain and improvements in overall physical fitness can affect therapy outcomes in this population, ET specifically focussing on physical fitness can be advocated for NSCLBP rehabilitation. High Intensity Training (HIT), has been promoted as an effective and efficient training method for improving physical fitness and health related parameters in healthy persons. Also, HIT resulted in successful reconditioning and improvement of functional and disease related outcomes in persons with other chronic diseases such as multiple sclerosis, heart failure, COPD and cardiometabolic diseases. Although some studies showed promising results for the effect of HIT on low back pain such as high intensity isolated, evidence is still scarce and study results are unclear because of methodological shortcomings. The aim of this randomized clinical trial study is to evaluate the effects of a HIT program on disease related outcomes, physical fitness and muscle contractile characteristics compared to a conventional rehabilitation program in persons with NSCLBP.

Patients with locally advanced melanoma are at high risk for recurrence following surgical treatment. More patients with stage IV melanoma remain in complete remission following systemic therapy. No standards have been established for the surveillance of patients at high risk for recurrence. Whole-body diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging and cfDNA analysis of blood are innovative imaging and laboratory investigations that may be of benefit for early detection of recurrence in this patient population.

RCT Comparing 19Ga vs 22Ga EBUS-TBNA Needles in Carcinoma.

EBUS-TBNA is often the sole diagnostic test applied in patients with stage IV lung cancer. A limitation of the TBNA needle when using a 22 Gauge needle is the limited ability to procure adequate histological samples. Although a larger 19 Ga needle can procure histological samples as demonstrated by the conventional 19 Ga needle, published data are not existing with respect to molecular diagnostics. A new nitinol-based 19 Ga needle has been developed for EBUS-TBNA. Given the frequent usage of 22 Ga needles for molecular diagnostics and the recent technical advancements in 19 Ga needle technology, we conduct a RCT to compare the performance of both needle types.

Validation Study of mHealth Technology in HIV to Improve Empowerment and Healthcare Utilisation: Research and Innovation to Generate Evidence for Personalised Care (EmERGE)

A large (3900 patients) cohort study, undertaken in five European sites to validate in a mHealth platform to enable self-management of HIV in patients with stable disease using a tailored HTA process, Model for Assessment of Telemedicine Applications (MAST), specifically developed for the assessment of mHealth solutions. As site recruitment will be sequential and the recruitment period will last 18 months, a maximum follow-up of 35 Months will be undertaken. Study visits will take place at baseline defined as the time of mHealth introduction, months 6, 12, 18, 24 and 30.
