Patients with bilateral age related cataract will be included in the study. Manual cataract surgery (MCS) will be performed in one eye and laser cataract surgery (LCS) in the corresponding eye. LCS will be performed with an approved femtosecond laser (FSL) device with an integrated imaging system. After surgery aqueous humour will be collected and screened with Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) Kits for Interleukin-1β; Interleukin-6 and PG.

Research Study Comparing Insulin Degludec to Insulin Detemir, Together With Insulin Aspart, in Pregnant Women With Type 1 Diabetes

The investigators are doing this study to see the effect of insulin degludec in pregnant women with type 1 diabetes, and if it is safe to use. In this study the medicine insulin degludec is compared to another medicine called insulin detemir. Participants will either get insulin degludec or insulin detemir and take it together with a medicine called insulin aspart - which treatment participants get is decided by chance. Participants will get pre-filled insulin pens. Participants will need to take blood sugar measurements several times a day. The study will last between 10 and 25 months depending on whether participants are already pregnant when they join the study. The number of visits and the tests ( for example blood and urine samples and ultrasound scans) the participants will have also depends on whether they are pregnant at study start.

Vitrectomy with membrane peeling has developed to be the gold-standard in treatment of epiretinal membranes. Due to the possibility of vitrectomy induced cataract, in many ophthalmic surgical centers it has become usual to indicate combined phacoemulsification and vitrectomy in case of existing cataract. Epiretinal membranes (ERM) and pseudomaculaforamen are disorders involving the posterior pole of the eyeball with consecutive vision loss. ERM can be well visualized with spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT). Different study groups showed that even intraoperative use of SD-OCT is possible.

Effect of Supplemental Oxygen on Perioperative BNP Concentration in Cardiac Risk Patients

The effect of supplemental oxygen on surgical site infections was already investigated in several studies before. Although, oxygen is one of the most used medical therapy in hospitalized patients, the influence on the cardiovascular system is still unknown. Available data indicate beneficial effects of supplemental oxygen on cardiovascular function. Because, no evidence exists concerning the perioperative period, it is our objective to investigate supplemental oxygen in cardiac risk patients undergoing major abdominal surgery. Due to the significant reduction of BNP by inhibiting sympathetic nerve activity we hypothesize that supplemental oxygen have beneficial effects in perioperative BNP release in cardiac risk patients undergoing major abdominal surgery.
