Assessing Lung Dynamics and Respiratory Functions in Minimal Flow Anesthesia: A Prospective Study

The patients were randomized into two groups medium flow anesthesia (MeFA) and minimal flow anesthesia (MiFA). While MeFA received medium flow anesthesia with 2 lt/min, MiFA received minimal flow anesthesia with 0.5 lt/min fresh gas flow. In both groups dynamic compliance values, peak inspiratory pressure (PIP) values, total inhalation anesthetic drug consumption, total remifentanil drug consumption, duration of anesthesia, and duration of surgery were recorded. The FVC, FEV1, and FEV1/FVC values of the patients in both groups were evaluated and noted 24 hours before the operation, after the operation 2nd, 8th, and 24th hours.

The goal of this observational study is to learn about vaccinations hesitancy, delay or avoidance in children with chronic diseases, congenital anomalies or disabilities. The main questions it aims to answer are: • Attitudes of caregivers towards vaccinating their children, obstacles that postpone vaccinations, and the status of vaccinations of these children. Participants will fill out questionnaires and some will be included in focused groups for the qualitative part of the study. Researchers will compare the vaccinations status of the research group to their siblings' status as well as the published national records of vaccination compliance.

Self-Management and Resilience Trajectories in African American Adults With Hypertension

Hypertension (HTN) rates have increased worldwide, but the most significant increase in the incidence of morbidity and mortality has been in African Americans (AA)1,2 (43% vs 27% for other U.S. population groups). Despite evidence of positive benefits from lifestyle modification (healthy diet, reduced sodium intake, increased physical activity, smoking cessation) and prescribed antihypertensive therapy (AHT) many AA with HTN do not adhere to their treatment regimens. Consistent, effective lifelong self-management is required to sustain optimal BP control and thus reduce morbidity and mortality. Self-managing HTN to a blood pressure (BP) <130/80 mm Hg presents challenges such as juggling multiple medications and health care providers, dealing with complex recommendations and treatment regimens, and coping with negative emotional states. Few studies have examined the biopsychosocial mechanisms that foster effective HTN self-management and resilience among AA living with HTN. Understanding the mechanisms that influence HTN self-management and resilience in AA holds the promise of new modifiable targets for behavior-change interventions. This study explores the relationship among resilience precursors on hypertension (HTN) self-management behaviors, stress response, and the effects that these relationships have on health outcomes-health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and blood pressure (BP) in African Americans (AA) with HTN over a 6-month period.

Interest of the S100B Protein Assay in Mild Traumatic Brain Injuries at the DOUAI Hospital

The main objective is to evaluate the feasibility and interest of setting up a protocol for the systematic measurement of the S100B protein in patients with mild traumatic brain injury admitted to the emergency room of Douai hospital in order to reduce the number of unnecessary brain scans. The main evaluation criterion is the percentage of patients admitted to the emergency department of Douai hospital for mild traumatic brain injury, whose protocol for the systematic measurement of the S100B protein would make it possible to avoid the realization of a brain scans for patients with a protein assay S100B ≤ 0.10 µg/L, carried out within 3h of the onset of MCT. The systematic dosage of the S100B protein in the context of mild traumatic brain injury still does not appear in the recommendations for good practice in 2021. This study will contribute to the reflection on the use of the S100B protein in the development of new recommendations for good practice of mild traumatic brain injury support.

Impact Of The Nurse Enhanced Recovery After Surgery Coordinator On The Compliance In Colorectal Surgery (nursERAS-BCN)

Purpose. The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of the implementation of the Nurse Enhanced Recovery After Surgery Coordinator (NEC), within the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) program, in relation to the compliance of patients undergoing colorectal surgery. Methods. Quasi-experimental study with a control group, an intervention group and without random assignment in a multicenter trial; between December 2021 and November 2023. Patients older than 18 years with planned elective intervention of major colorectal surgery will be included; excluding those without social support, with psychiatric illness, cognitive difficulty, planning of simultaneous or emergency surgery. In the intervention arm they will have NEC and in the control group they will not have that resource. Compliance will be the main variable of the study and, in addition, the study aims to assess secondary endpoints such as quality of life (QOL). Conclusions. NEC could increase compliance to ERAS programs, improving health outcomes and QOL perceived by the patient. The applicability in the different hospital centers could generate an opportunity to advance professionally in the nursing figure within the ERAS program. The fact of having NEC could also increase the efficiency of the program due to the cost-effectiveness of the nursing position, although this is not the object of the study. It would be applicable in improving perceived health and QOL, so it could also have an economic impact on the health system.

Evaluating a Dropless Postoperative Regimen After Cataract Surgery in a Vulnerable, County-hospital Population

The current postoperative cataract surgery eye drop regimen used at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG) is a significant burden for its patient population, contributing to high rates of non-adherence and the development of postoperative complications. The investigators propose to replace this complex regimen with a single administration of intraocular antibiotic and subconjunctival steroid at the time of surgery. This pilot study will obtain the preliminary data required to eventually fully evaluate this innovation in postoperative care in a safety-net population with respect to postoperative outcomes, patient compliance, and patient and caregiver satisfaction.

During the pandemic, it is important for people who are isolated in their homes to stay inactive and exercise exercises in order to prevent their complaints from increasing due to inactivity. Individuals with multiple sclerosis are outpatient or inpatient with home exercise programs besides the rehabilitation practices. They are being monitored. It has been reported the rehabilitation of individuals is that they need to comply with their home exercise programs in order to contribute. However, very limited research studies suggest that any method can be used as home exercise has examined whether it has increased compliance with the program. However, examining the factors affecting the compliance of individuals with Multiple sclerosis to the home exercise program. The study was not found either. Exercise through tele-rehabilitation in individuals with multiple sclerosis in previous studies where their education contributed to the physical performance of patients shown. However, these studies are based on individual neurorehabilitation models. In the literature, the use of video-based exercise training in MS patients a study showing increased performance as well as increased participation in the home program available. However, in this study, a special program was applied to the individual and it is not a respiration-based program. There is no research on web-based group activity training in the field.
